Chapter 1New Beginnings

A sleeping child can be seen, snoring away with a line of drool lining his face and making a puddle on his pillow.

*Sniff* *Sniff*

"MEAT" the child shouted as he immediately got out of his sleeping position and bolted to the door.

The boy running down the hallway towards the smell of meat is the 7-year-old Monkey D. Luffy. The son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the 'Revolutionary Army', and the grandson of the 'Hero of the Marines' Monkey D. Garp.

Luffy doesn't have any idea how famous his grandfather is. He doesn't even know he has a father at all. All he knows is how to eat and how to eat some more.

Luffy is currently living in one of the rooms of 'Partys Bar' that is located in Foosha Village, a small port village on Dawn Island, a member of the Goa Kingdom.

"I'm hungry Makino!!!" Luffy shouted as he ran toward the bar, jumped up to sit on the barstool. He started rapidly pounding on the countertop repeatedly.

The woman behind the car giggled as she handed him a plate full of food. Makino, the bartender of 'Partys' Bar, watched as he cheered loudly and then practically inhaled the plate of food without a single breath for rest.

"Are you full yet Luffy?" Makino asked him. Luffy shook his head. She nodded and grabbed his empty plate.

"Wait a while okay? I'm going to fill up the plate." Makino smiled at him and went into the kitchen of the bar. Luffy groaned at that because waiting sucks.

*BANG*

Luffy jumped a little as he turned to see who just almost broke the bar door, his face split into a massive grin when he saw who was walking towards him with a matching grin on his face. Luffy dropped what he was doing and ran towards him. He jumped up and hugged him tightly.

"Grandpa!" He shouted.

"Huh?" Garp hummed loudly as he was getting hugged by his grandson. Luffy never does that.

He grabbed his grandson by the back of his shirt and dangled him in front of him. "Who are you and what have you done with my grandson? You never hug me." Garp pointed out.

"So it is true! You do hate hugs!" Luffy shouted at him. Garp's eyebrow twitched and he dropped Luffy.

"You brat!!! Taste my Fist of Love!" Garp shouted as he tried to punch Luffy on the top of his head. Luffy shouted and jumped away from the attack.

*BAM!!!*

Garp's punch shattered the wooden floor. Makino, who just got back with the food, squealed and covered her eyes, not wanting to watch.

Garp raised an eyebrow and looked at Luffy who was panting. "Brat, did you just dodge my fist of love?" He asked him. Luffy grinned at him.

"Yeah! I di-"

*BAM!!!*

"OWWW!!!" Luffy clutched his head as he was punched in the head by Garp.

"Ha!! So that dodge was just a fluke! You still have a lot to learn, Luffy!" Garp taunted him and laughed. Luffy growled.

"That wasn't fair! I wasn't ready!" Luffy shouted, making Garp laugh even harder.

"Bwahahaha!!!! All is fair in a fight, dirty tricks included! You need to learn that, Luffy. When you become a great marine, you'll fight a lot of pirates who try to use dirty tricks to win." Garp explained. Luffy narrowed his eyes.

"No way I'm gonna be a marine! People telling you all sorts of orders and then you gotta go and DO those things they told you to do? No way! I'm gonna be a pirate and be free! Blehh!!" Luffy stuck out his tongue at his grandpa. Garp narrowed his eyes right back at him.

"You disrespectful brat! Take this!!"

*BAM!!!*

"OWWW!!!" Luffy shouted as he clutched his head again. He glared at Garp with some tears in his eyes.

"Why are you always like this?! Every time I say I wanna be a pirate you always hit me! Is there something wrong with you? Why can't you just let me do what I want to do?!" Luffy shouted. Garp was astounded.

"Brat…" Garp sighed. The Marine Hero always wanted to make his grandson into a marine so he could protect him and try to make up for the mistakes he made with his son. He didn't realize his efforts to protect his family had made his grandson believe that he didn't want him to be happy. He put on his serious face and walked over to Luffy. He kneeled to match his grandson's height and hugged him in the only way a grandfather could hug his grandson.

"It's not that I don't want you to follow your dreams brat…" He started as he motioned his grandson back to the barstools.

"It's that I know how harsh the world out there is and I know how strong you need to be so you can be safe in this crazy world." Garp sighed as he looked at Luffy to make sure he was still listening. Thankfully he already inhaled that second plate of food, who knows when, so he was listening.

"I want you to become a marine because of how great it has been for me in my life and the people that I've helped. I don't want you to be a pirate because I have met countless horrible people that call themselves pirates and I never want to associate you with them." Garp explained. He paused for a minute, seemingly thinking over something, before finally reaching a conclusion.

"That old goat will be so pissed if he ever finds out… but screw him, no way am I gonna let my grandson get bullied while I'm in my office eating rice crackers!" Garp thought to himself before turning to his grandson again to see him zoned out, looking at the ceiling, with his pinkie digging for gold.

"Oi Pay attention Luffy!!"

*BAM!!!*

"OWWW!!!! Stop hitting me, Grandpa!!!" Luffy shouted at him as Makino fussed over the growing welts on his head.

"Listen Luffy! You'll make a promise that you have to keep, if you do, I'll let you become a pirate and I'll even train you to get stronger! But only if you agree to this promise, alright?!" Garp told Luffy. Luffy rapidly nodded up and down.

"What's the promise, Grandpa?" Luffy asked after he was scolded for moving too much by Makino who was still holding ice to his head. Garp grinned at him and held up one finger.

"First, you have to promise me not to hurt innocent people, you may be ready to stake you life on your life at sea, but not everyone has signed up for that life." Garp said his first demand. Luffy nodded his head without hesitation which made Garp smile. He held up his second finger.

"Second, I want you to beat up people either you or I would call shitty, whether it's another pirate, a marine, or whoever else. If they are causing problems or doing something you think I wouldn't like, give them the Fist of Love." Garp said his second demand. Luffy looked hesitant after this was said.

"But that would make me a hero! I don't want to share my meat!" Luffy shouted at Garp with a frown on his face. Garp mirrored that frown.

"What the hell are you talking about, brat?" Garp asked. As Luffy went to answer, Makino yelled before him.

"Stop swearing in front of Luffy!" Makino yelled at Garp. Both Garp and Luffy cringed at the 'mom-voice' she used and both apologized, even though Luffy didn't even say it. Luffy peaked at Makino and saw that she had calmed down a bit so he answered his grandpa's question.

"If I go around beating up every bad guy, that would make me a hero, I wanna be a pirate! If someone is messing with my friends or if someone pisses me off then I'll beat them up, but if they don't, it's not any of my business." Luffy explained his reasoning. He didn't want to go around worrying about everyone else, how was he supposed to have any adventures that way? Garp looked contemplative for a while before a grin grew on his face.

"That's good enough for me brat! I know what kind of people will probably end up pissing you off so if you beat those guys up that will be less work for me." Garp said as he stood up and left money for Luffy's food on the bar, even with Makino's insistence that it was unnecessary.

"Well brat, hope you ate enough because you're going to need your energy." Garp told his grandson and before Luffy could fully process the words, he felt himself get picked up by the back of his shirt. The next thing he knew he was getting smacked in the face by the fastest wind he ever felt and then landing face-first in a bush.

*Pleh*

Luffy spat out a leaf as he pulled himself out of the bush. Once he was back on his feet and wiping off the branches and leaves from his clothes he finally got a good look around.

It was a massive forest with trees that looked like they were thousands of feet tall with bushes and shrubs scattered everywhere with the sound of a river flowing what seemed to be very close by. There were constant noises from deep in the forest that scared him as much as that massive tiger on the mountain back home. Finally, what he thought was the most terrifying, was an old man in a vacation shirt and sunglasses that brought him here faster than he thought was possible.

"Where are we, Grandpa?" Luffy asked as he saw Garp grin at him.

"We are on an abandoned island Luffy! I'll be here for the next month training you on the basics of how to fight, how you will train after I leave, and the basics of my Iron Fist." Garp explained to his confused grandson. Luffy looked even more confused.

"After you leave? What do you mean?" Luffy asked and got a bit scared as he saw his grandpa's grin turn a bit evil.

"Oh, that? You'll be staying here till you can get back to Dawn Island on your own. You can see it on the horizon over there." Garp said as he pointed at the small dot on the horizon. Luffy snapped his head back to him after realizing his home island was said dot.

"How the hell am I going to get back there?! I can't even swim!" Luffy shouted at his grandpa. Garp broke out laughing.

"Bwuhahaha!!! Don't worry Luffy, when you're done with your tortu-I mean training you'll be able to get back there easily!" Garp said as his grin went full evil and Luffy felt a shiver up his spine.

"I hope there's meat here" Luffy mumbled out, accepting his fate.
