Synopsis

The year 2080 was a turning point for humanity. Unfortunately, the sudden and unexpected flooding of the Earth by the oceans claimed many lives, buildings, and cities. However, where there were once dry lands, new transportation routes were created. Old oil platforms became new homes for the survivors. And now, 106 years have passed since those unforgettable times. But is it really true? We're not sure if it's just the main character's illusion or the truth.

Chapter 1Hunting

Currently, I'm going on a hunting trip with my father. I remember as if it was today when I asked him, "Dad, what are we going to hunt today?"

He replied, "Gigantic octopuses."

"Are you joking, right?" Leo responded with surprise.

"Why would I joke?" his father replied.

At first, I thought he was kidding, but when we reached the coral reef, I knew he was serious. However, when we got there, there was no octopus, only ordinary fish that we eat every day.

My dad didn't want to go home then because we were supposed to celebrate my younger sister Elif's birthday.

"Leo," his father yelled.

Leo responded, "Yes, dad?"

"Do you see anything there? I don't want to go home empty-handed on such a day," he asked.

"No, I don't see anything," Leo interrupted, shouting. "There, there is one!"

That's when I noticed the octopus. It may not have been as big as we were looking for, but it was something.

"Oh, I see it, but you have an eye, Leo!" his father exclaimed, adding to that a net throw.

That was the first time I caught an octopus with my father, and I must say that after eating fish continuously, it was a blessing of the year.

"It's time to go back," his father said.

On the way back, dad and Leo shared memories of today's hunt. Leo was particularly proud of catching the octopus, and his father couldn't stop praising his son's observation skills. As they approached home, Leo saw his sister Elif running towards them.

"Elif!" Leo exclaimed, waving his hand.

"Sis and dad are back!" Elif shouted when she approached them.

"I see you managed to catch something for Elif's birthday celebration today!" Leo's mom said with a smile.

"We caught an octopus!" Leo exclaimed, full of pride.

"Oh, how wonderful!" his mom said, kissing him on the cheek.

It was truly a fantastic day for the whole family

Leo and his family went to sleep after all the festivities, but Leo had a strange dream. He was in an empty, rather cold room with a bed and an older man on it.

"Who are you?" Leo asked.

The older man didn't answer, but pointed to the window. After a moment, Leo woke up, wondering about the whole dream and who the man could be.

Without further ado, Leo got out of bed and went about his daily routine, then left his room and headed to the workshop of his good friend and mentor, Mr. Kael, who had just repaired his old flashlight.

"Good morning," greeted Leo.

"Hi, hi," Kael replied, busy at work. After a moment, he added, "there's your flashlight."

Leo looked where Kael pointed, took the flashlight, and asked, "What interesting things are you working on?"

After a moment, Kael replied, "I'm trying to fix the radio I told you about."

"That's a radio?" Leo was intrigued.

"Yes, it's a radio. And now that you're standing there, could you pass me that piece of metal over there?"

Leo spent some time helping Mr. Kael. About two hours later, he went to his daily job.

"Oh, finally you're here!" said Zohar, Leo's good friend.

"Hey, what's up? Where are we sailing today?" Leo said, patting his friend on the back.

"To district B," Zohar replied. After a moment, Leo added, "To that sunken city everyone's been talking about?"

Leo, Zohar, and a few other people prepared their diving gear, as their goal was to search old shops for canned food. After a moment, they boarded the boat and headed towards the city. Eventually, they arrived and began their work..

This review is based on my first impression of the novel in the complex: bookcover, synopsis, tag and the first chapter (I also peeked at the titles of the other five chapters for more context). The reading experience is overall positive . The two slight problems I found were that just at the beginning of ch 1 It isn't exactly clear if the point of view of the m.c. narrator Is from the future looking back toward the past or contemporary(going with my memory it's written somenthing like" at this moment I'm fishing" and in the next line " I remember It like It was yesterday" It confused me a bit😅). The other thing I had so.e difficulty wrapping my head around the introduction of 6 character at the first chapter (the family of m.c. and the two friends) but I guess that would solve by itself uncounsciously studying the names, personalities in the following chapters The update frequency is good but not that much stable. The bookcover is of very high quality, related to the s.f. genre (I' m curious about the source) and catches the eye, nothing to advice there. The synopsis similarly is coincise but sounds interesting thanks to the distopian setting. The pacing in the first chapter seemed fast but I guess that's normal given that's probably the introduction to the reincarnation of the m.c.(guess based on titles and tags). Even though the other five characters stealed him space in the first chapter the m.c. sounds interesting thanks to the hints given through the dream and his good eye. Definitely recommended, in the future progressing with the read I may edit the review . Keep It up author 👍
