Synopsis

Reincarnated as Shoto Todoroki, I thought I hit the jackpot. Being the child of a Hero was supposed to be a lucky drawn until I learned that from ten among us, three only would reach adulthood. This world isn't the one I thought I knew : the strong do as they please and the world has to bend to their will. In another life, I could have been a Hero - in this one, I will make the world bend until it breaks, even if I have to destroy myself in the process. ------------ This a dark, gore, more seinen than shonen fanfiction. If you're a bit sensitive or faint of heart, I strongly advise against reading this. Otherwise welcome to your new favorite fanfiction.

Chapter 1Part 1 : Damnation. Chapter 0.

"What have you done ?"

Viscera, pieces of arms torn off, bodies without heads-

"Shoto, what have you done ?"

There was blood on the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling-

"What have I done ?"

The young man sat cross-legged on the grass, his cold, lifeless eyes piercing through him. He was bathed in blood from head to toe, and the man knew better than to ask if it was his own.

"The right question to ask would be : 'what did they do to me ?' "

The man knew. Of course he knew. Everyone in the secret knew. But such a massacre...

"Don't you think you've gone too far? Don't you think-"

The young man laughed. His interlocutor shuddered, the hairs on his neck bristling. He knew Shoto since he was a kid, but he had never once heard him laugh.

"Why are you surprised? You told me yourself that I am not a hero"

The man froze. He looked down, unable to hold his gaze any longer.

"I think it hurt my ego a little bit at the time. But you were right, weren't you ?"

Shoto raised his hands in a theatrical gesture, pointing to the lifeless bodies spread out around him.

"All of this... all of this is me"

The man was afraid of what it meant.

He licked his dry lips, clutching the hem of his windbreaker with shaking fingers.

"So that's what you've become ? Someone who destroys without caring about the cost ? Someone who only does what he wants to do?"

Shoto's face darkened.

There was a storm brewing in his eyes, a kind of madness that was just waiting for the right moment to be unleashed onto the world.

"I've always been selfish, we both know that. It's just that, for a short time, I thought..."

He fell silent, unable to continue.

His eyes became glassy, as if he was looking at something far away that he could never hope to reach again.

And then anger distorted his face. The corners of his mouth dropped, his features became as hard as stone.

He raised his cold eyes to the man.

"You know very well what I am going to say, aizawa -sensei"

Shoto stood up.

Aizawa froze, horrified , his eyes never leaving the thing that had just rolled off his thighs and landed in a pool of blood.

It was a human head.

"You- and all those among you who knew"

Shoto leaned over Aizawa's shoulder, his warm breath brushing his ear.

Aizawa watched him out of the corner of his eye. A drop of sweat rolled down his temple as he realized that his eyes were turning red, the three black commas turning lazily in his eyes.

"You are next"

Vahn was an atypical youth. Due to a rare mutation, his blood had the potential to target and attack ailments within the human body. Touted as a universal cure, people had elevated his status above the norm and given him the classification "Panacea". In the media, he was hailed as a great hero who would usher in a new era or human wellness. However, behind the scenes things weren't so bright. Being a unique individual, Vahn spent his entire youth locked up in a lab with various scientists and research teams using his body and blood to perform endless amounts of experiments. The only solace in his suffering was the various anime and manga made available to him between experiments. He often imagined himself as the protagonist in a world of his own, finally in control of his own destiny. For years he nurtured this desire, until at the age of 14 he died when an organization had tried to kidnap him from the lab... "Finally, I don't have to suffer anymore..." This was Vahn's last thought as he faded into the endless black abyss... "You poor soul." I'm at chapter 97 at the moment, writing this. All I can say is that this is one of the most unique MHA FFs that I have read in forever. It has amazing world-building, not just for the MC himself but for every other character as well. Dare I say some characters have more personality than their counterparts? You can feel the dedication to details in world-building and how things are tied to a plot point. Now the MC does not have plot armor. Well, he does. You know he won't die, but that doesn't mean he won't suffer. It's amazing to read as his personality grows and changes with time. This world of MHA is more realistic, thus more darker, and it shows you that without holding back, the MC will suffer. He got cheats, but he does not get power up out of nowhere just because he is losing. No, he works for that power up from the moment he realizes he can die, and nobody will notice. The world won't mourn him, and he is not special just because he had a second chance. And he understands this early on with a traumatic event that breaks his psyche and rebulits him as you read the aftermath. If you are looking for something different than the norm of the I got reborn and have cheats, everything will work out itself kind of story, then try this. Don't look at the reviews; just read it and decide for yourself. Though I admit some might not like how the MC suffers psychologically, it's a unique and amazing read for me. It's a different one than the standard, so if you want something different, give it a chance.

*Honest review without spoilers* First of all: this story is VERY heavy compared to the original, the characters are very emotionally charged and no one here escapes without PTSD. So if you want something light, this story is not for you. Another warning is, this fic diverges considerably from the original, there is almost no highlight of the students of class 1-A, but in comparison, we have a lot of the Todoroki family and the backstory of the world of heroes, of course, since it is not shown in the anime, a lot of things are invented from the author's mind. It is relatively slow in the beginning, (because like, the guy is a child) but it is not boring, don't be intimidated! In the future it gets so chaotic that you beg for a break... That said; This is probably one of the best fanfics I have read throughout my "career", it has great writing, character development and, relatively, a good description of fights, which is hard to do. I can't say much about the power system, since I'm not familiar with Naruto, but it seems to be good enough for someone like me to understand. Another thing that caught my attention is the psychological description of the characters, it's an aspect that usually leaves something to be desired in fighting animes, but here we have an emphasis on the traumas experienced by the characters that influence the future of the plot, and for me, it's something that contributes a lot to the development of a character. But what really caught me here was the difference from the original work, I've read many MHA fanfics and they're all very similar, most of them want to have their OC befriend the original characters, participate in the festival, be a hero, blah blah blah, the issue is that writers are usually afraid of diverging too much from the original work, and this limits them and what their work can become, Narcisse doesn't have this fear and that's what makes this story stand out. (HIGHLIGHT for the absolute professional ethics of always posting regularly). My sincerest compliments to Narcisse, you haven't even finished yet and I'm already wondering what you're going to write next... (・・;)
