Honestly locking chapters of translated stuff behind a paywall is not really a morally upright move, nor is it legally just as well. Raw name is 型月,听说死后,就能上英灵座?if y'all wanna read it

Well...I've already given the raw link in the description for those who wanna read and it's free on webnovel. As for p@tr3on, it's for those who wanna pay. ..

the problem behind locking translated fanfic tion behind paywalls is that, no.1, did you seek permisisionfrom the original author to post this translated version of his work? and no.2, most fanfiction are allowed to exist because it is free, many copyright holders of large media franchises allow fanfiction of their work because it's free advertising, but if someone takes their work, without their permisision and earns money from it, they won't be too happy about it. you might say that the chapters are free, and that the readers choose to give you money themselves. However, advanced chapters aren't free, and you know what advanced chapters have? copyrighted content that was most likely used without legal permission.

I mean i agree on everything you said but I dont't mind locking ADVANCED chapters behind paywalls since it will eventually be released but translation takes time and most will not do it for free (ik with ai it's becoming easier to translate but I am pretty this translaters work are not AI translated). what i do have a problem is blocking chapters behind a paywall permanently. of course that's just my opinion.

If it is Chinese then they don’t have to, no real copyright protection in china for most things, also it is entirely legal to have a patreon as long as you are not exclusively uploading on there. As long as the chapters become free on here it counts as support rather than a transaction

sounds logical but doesn't feel right to me

It unfortunately is, as long as no profit is made from exclusive sale of a book it is fine on patreon, as long as it is free elsewhere and is not locked behind a paywall it is considered fair use

Bro, you are not obligated to buy, I understand your point of view but translation takes time and effort, paid chapters on Patreon will eventually be free so there is no reason to worry about that, other than that the people who buy and consume the content are probably already aware that it is a translation and don't mind spending money on it

problem is that translation has become so easy these days, with AI models trained to translate, you only need to configure a few things then just copy and paste, I'm sure you've seen some weird mistakes in translations like mixing up names right? that's most likely not a human mistake, alot of ppl rn just copy and paste then maybe do a bit of adjusting and bam, fully translated chapter with minimal effort, for all I know it could take lesser than 5 minutes for a chaoter excluding proof reading if any translators do that at all. The low amount of effort it takes to do translations nowadays just makes it seem scummy to charge money for it.

Bro, not all people have time and energy to translate novels by themselves, especially the character names, which is the most annoying part in Chinese fanfic. Reading while translating also makes it hard to enjoy and immerse in the story. Also, almost all Chinese fanfictions (like this fanfic) is behind a paywall. What's worse, it's handled by the novel platform itself, like qidian, ciwei, faloo, etc. Did they get permission from the Japanese authors? No. That's why talking about copyright with Chinese fanfictions is nonsense.

ChikinBorgerLv4

More like a soft-lock, but yeah. Charging for someone else’s work you don’t have a license for is wrong and probably illegal.

unknown_daoistLv14

its still scummy, you profit of another ones work, without their consent, while probably having little to no self work in it (ai + grammarly)

... most of the translators use ai, they just proofread it, but its still little work and then they do a patreon => its a scummy side hustle

Locking advanced chapters is totally fine, the moral question is of course questionable, but this is totally just for those who wanted to support the translation and get something for that donation, its totally not paywall, remember, "donation"

InfinityAndBeyondLv5

that's in the Patreon tho, you can still read it in Webnovel for free you just have to wait. why are you all complaining

LuluViBritaniaLv14

No fanfiction is legally or morally upright. free to read or not

Please, all these guys do is slap chapters into an ai software and reap the rewards. There's nothing hard about it. I used to do it when I read Japanese novels. These authors don't even bother to remove the obvious Chinese themes or change names that do not make sense within the world. They literally just copy-paste, and maybe fix a mistranslated name here or there.
