"Goodbye, daddy issues. I'll see you soon," Miho, whose left eye was still bandaged up, said as she took her things and left their shared room.
"Haha, get used to the eye thing or you won't see my cuts coming," Zoro replied.
Miho was what someone would call an aspiring Hero. Miho herself noticed that Ryoto wasn't waiting for any relatives that would help him eat, because the cuts across his body restricted his movements and would hurt whenever he tried to move on his own, so she decided to help him as best as she could.
Ryoto was kind of nervous, seeing the girl make an empathizing and caring expression while he was being spoon fed soup. He blushed slightly, Miho was a good-looking girl, after all. Seeing him blush, Miho got embarrassed and accidentally pushed the spoon to far into Ryoto's mouth and made him gag.
"AUGH!"
"Hahah! Sorry," she apologized.
"Ha, no, it's okay. Thank you Miho, I'm sure you will make a great Hero one day," Ryoto answered.
'Head up, kid. You will see her at school, won't you? Let's deal with the issue with your father first. You may've realized, but the second he used his Quirk, it was already over for you. You let him cut my body pretty good. His sharpness was more lethal than ours. How fortunate we were to survive,' Zoro said.
'Yeah, I felt it. But I was sure he wouldn't kill me. If he wished, he would've just cut one or more of my limbs. If I had defended myself, he might've really killed me. There is something much deeper going on here. And as you saw from my memories, my father doesn't give two shits about me. His bare minimum was feeding me and creating a liveable environment for me. But now, he cannot interfere anymore. I will just lock him up, as heartless as that sounds, but I cannot afford to break our covenant. I couldn't also afford to use my Quirk, I feared the consequences of that would mean we couldn't become Heroes anymore,' Ryoto reasoned.
'After all this time, trusting your judgement has become easy. I have the same sensory intake as you, and even some of your intelligence has rubbed off on me.'
An hour later, a police officers entered Ryoto's room. "Hello, Ryoto Matsuda. First of all, I wish you a good recovery. Second of all, we need to talk about what happened to you. It could take some time, so if you need anything, tell me. Oh, and by the way, my name is Naomasa Tsukauchi," he said as he said down next to the bandaged boy with 2 different eye colors.
"Hello, Sir," Ryoto greeted the officer.
"I would be very happy, if you would be kind enough to answer my questions. What happened that night," Officer Tsukauchi started his questioning.
"I came home from the U.A entrance exam. And as soon as I entered the apartment, he grabbed me by my collar and threw me at the wall. He knew that U.A's entrance exams was that day, so he put two and two together and figured out I had gone to take part. I had been training for months, and he noticed after a while. He told me that once a Hero is wronged by another Hero, the Hero will become everyone's enemy. He had never used his Quirk in front of me, it was the first time he did and he used it on me," Ryoto explained and Officer Tsukauchi listened carefully, showing great sympathy towards a kid who aspired to become a Hero and attend the school his friend All Might was going to start teaching at.
Noting what Ryoto said, Officer Tsukauchi observed the boy's demeanour stay the same for the entirety of their conversation. He thought that Ryoto was traumatized, but in reality, Ryoto did not care.
"So, you said U.A. How was your entrance exam," Officer Tsukauchi asked.
"1st place with 77 points. I was accepted, of course," Ryoto said, showing pride for a second.
"Congratulations, then... So, Ryoto. You may know that Quirk use is legal at private property, unless it brings intentional harm."
"Yes, I know."
"You father put you into a week long coma with the help of his Quirk. And after you were taken away, he even tried fighting Kamui Woods, which in turn made him be classified as a Villain."
"I see."
"He will be locked up at Tartarus for give or take 20 years."
"What will happen to me now? I predict that I will be sent to a foster family."
"That's not quite right. You grandfather, whom you've never seemed to have met or heard about, has decided to become your legal guardian and rent out a house in Musutafu for you to be living in. Your stuff has already been moved there. And the new address with the key is here," Officer Tsukauchi explained and gave Ryoto a piece of paper where his new house's address was written on it and the key to it.
"How can this be? Why would he become my guardian all of a sudden? Did he not know about my existence previously," Ryoto asked.
"Yes. He, too, was surprised to learn about you. He is in Hosu and quite busy, so he let you live here alone. He is your mother's father."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I won't complain,' Ryoto said mentally, looking at the house his supposed grandfather, which he didn't know the name of, rented out for him.
'Something is very, very fishy. I advise you to turn up your paranoia,' Zoro said.
4 days after Officer Tsukauchi came to take Ryoto's statement, Ryoto was discharged from the hospital.
'Sucks not being able to train for 2 weeks,' both agreed.
Somewhere in an a big office, the old voice was talking on a secure line again. "If he's anything like his father, he will come to challenge me to a fight between swordsmen. My saviour, you said you would like to recruit him into your ranks, but why is that?"
"Are you questioning my motives," the voice on the other side of the line replied.
"I would never question your motives, I was just curious."
"If he has the Quirk of your daughter as well, then he might be a good bodyguard for my successor. I cannot trust selfless creatures to do the job."
