4/5/5/4/5 It's good, a touch of amateurishness in the writing bleeds through every now and again, but it's only endearing since it puts into perspective the amount of effort and carefulness it would take from a new author to make the rest of the story seem natural and polished. Some writing decisions offhand don't make sense but work fine in the flow of the story, and sometimes the comedy doesn't really hit for me but all-in-all that part is fine. I REALLY love the concept of an animal companion and I think the idea is executed wonderfully, I like the MC though I think he's a bit too much of a Gary Stu (not particularly a fan of when fanfic protags overshadow the Straw Hats), protags combat style and powers are unique and refreshing to read. The Slice-of-Life moments truly feel like they'd be scenes straight out of One Piece, the character interactions are quite well-written. I hope he splits off from the Straw Hats like he's intending to so this fic doesn't fall to the wayside like all the other One Piece story's that act like retellings of the canon plot. Good fic. 👍🏻

Thanks for the kind words, and you are right about your assessment of both my writing and the character's development. I am working through it, and hopefully it will change as the story progresses. As for staying with the crew or not, I won't say much, but I have a few ideas that would hopefully satisfy both the pro-crew and anti-crew parties.
