It helps that I've been a writer for twelve years. I've got 8k+ Instagram followers and a couple thousand Twitter followers. I stopped writing for a couple of years while getting my life on track, and since many people were waiting for me to say I'm writing again, that bumped up my numbers a little.

I haven't managed to publish any novels, sadly. But I've done short stories a bunch of times, won a couple of small competitions, and shared the short stories with my fans. The biggest part of it is networking ✌️

I started networking and marketing myself from when I was about 18, so two years after I started writing. I joined groups for writing, networked with a lot of readers and writers, and built a pretty obscure brand over time. I used to have 15k followers on Instagram, but when you drop off the grid, people lose interest in you. Only start marketing yourself when you know you can keep it up 💪

Well, I'm 18 now, so I guess it's not to soon to start something like that 😅. But I'll try to do my best. How exactly does this networking thing work? Also, should I just focus more in writing and worry about it later, or try to juggle both at the same time?

I studied economics, business, and marketing from 16-18, which helped, but I just like algorithms and math; it wasn't about the subjects themselves. Think of it like this: Will marketing take time from more important tasks in your life? If so, then don't do it yet. Can you drop some less important tasks in your life and use that time for marketing? If so, then go for it. Twitter is a good place to start, as Instagram is more imagery-focused. Try to stay out of political and societal disputes, and just boost other authors while promoting yourself occasionally. Join in on some fun memes or whatnot occasionally, and make sure to follow other authors. Build an account solely for your writing and make sure you give some personality and life to the account. Don't just post links to writing, but talk about how things you've recently read impact your life, and talk about your writing process occasionally. I could give you a TED-Talk, but I don't have time 😅
