Chapter 1Chapter 1

28 December 2019

My alarm was ringing it woke me up from the weird dream I was having. Honestly, I wished it would never ring and I keep on having that weird dream. It's been a while since I had a decent one. I looked at the calendar, it was Saturday "Finally gaming Sunday is coming".

I went out, did some roadwork and stretches for an hour. I wore my uniform and went to the diner down in the street.

"Morning Niam, "said the waitress,

"Morning Holly, the usual please".

"Right away," she said.

I grabbed the newspaper and read it while Holly was bringing me breakfast.

"Here's your chicken cheese omelet sandwich, and tea", she said as she served me my sandwich.

"Thank you". I said.

Every day I get to eat my favorite breakfast which was the most satisfying thing about my life. After breakfast, I paid the check and left. I took my bicycle and went to school, arrived half-hour early like always. Checked my phone for notifications while waiting for the class to start.

My name is Niam Walker. I am 16 years old and a 1st-year student in High school. I belong to "Silver city", The biggest city in the world where people from all over the world lived. The city was heavenly beautiful, clean, and rich but like always everyone didn't have equal lives. I once belonged to a wealthy family, the Fernandez household, one of the richest families in silver city.

Why I say I once belonged to that household ?, its because I left that sad excuse of a shitty family. I was the illegitimate child of a woman who disobeyed the true master of the family, my grandfather James Fernandez and because of that fucking shit I was treated as an outcast in the family and in school. They would say bad things about me things that I didn't like and often harassed me mentally. I once almost got killed when my cousin threw me in the river when I was 4 but I managed to live when a certain man saved me.

After that incident my grandfather made me learn martial arts. He always used to say that I should deal with my own problems. I started learning martial arts when I was 4 from that certain man who was my savior, who later became my teacher and my real parent other than grandpa.

That man's name was Azrael Knight. He taught me Judo, Karate,Taekwondo, Jiu-jitsu, Kung-fu, and ken-jutsu for 6 years. At the age of 10, he started teaching me parkour, and acrobatics for 3 years. Sometimes I used to think all that training was turning me into a circus freak but later it was damn useful. Like when I could always avoid a beat down from those bullies when I was in grade school and middle school. I always ran away and avoided fights. But I was someone fond of revenge so I would always give them a taste of their own medicine.

Those days with my master were the best of my memories until he left me without saying anything that broke my heart. How could he leave without saying anything, he must have a reason. I made a vow that if I meet him I will hit him in the nuts for leaving me.

After that my grandpa started giving me some military training for 2 years.Made me learn a great number of things useful in survival. He was a former commando who served in the military for 20 years. The 2 years I spent with him made me realize he took responsibility for me as a grandparent but never loved me as one but I felt the love he gave me in these two years.

When I turned 15 I requested my grandfather that I wish to leave the family. He agreed to my request, he didn't ask why but he knew the reason. He knew how much I suffered in this rotten messed-up household. He gave me an inheritance of 5 million $ and I left the family. With that much money, I bought myself an apartment and started living by myself, and its been a year

Every day was the same, I come to school everyone avoids me and tremble in fear whenever I look at them. That one incident in which I beat the shit out of that one person changed the atmosphere in the school there was no more bullying, no more harassment, and no more assholes left to piss me off. That also made me an outcast in everyone's eyes but I'm used to it.

Finally, the school was over I went to the mini-mart bought loads of snacks and drinks like cola, sprite, chips, chocolate, cheese puffs, and noodles.

Next stop the game store-bought around 10 games and finally arrived home. I ordered loads of junk food from my favorite fast food places like Pizza with salad from Pizza Hut, Burgers and Fries with fried chicken from KFC, and finally strawberry sundae from the Diner.

Everything set and I play games for the whole night I love playing games that involved shooting and fighting. This is how Saturday night goes for me no friends and family, a total loner. Eating junk food and playing video games so yeah a total geek.

After 16 hours of gaming, I fell asleep and of course, recharge myself. Wake up in 4 hours have my meal watch some movies and fall asleep. Yeah, all that all-nighter and junk food really damage my body but I can manage fine besides I can keep up a strict routine for 6 days a week so that's good enough for me.

Gaming Sunday was over and that's how my day goes I always loved sticking my head in the virtual world. Games were the one thing that kept me going in life whenever I felt despair cause of the harsh reality the virtual world would always bring me joy and happiness. I always wished my life was a game so my life would become less crappy and boring. And what are my thoughts towards this world it can go to hell all the negative feelings made my heart crude towards reality but do I can only blame god for that? no, I blame the shitty people and situations in life. Suddenly, I felt a headache and fall asleep.

I woke up from that weird dream again in which I saw a person with long white hair and red eyes. I looked at my phone I couldn't believe what I was seeing it was the next week of Tuesday 9th January 2020 I was out for 8 days straight. I was feeling weak and hungry so I picked up my snacks and ate all of my food. I pulled out my meds protein and calcium and took them to restore my strength and took rest for the whole day.

I woke up the next morning I was feeling good. I went up to the roof to get some sunlight with a cup of coffee in my hand. I went up the smell of my surrounding was awful I looked from the rooftop I couldn't believe what I was seeing it was the sight of chaos and destruction. My whole neighborhood was destroyed and I saw people attacking others violently and eating them. I couldn't believe it those people were actual zombies. This was so unreal.

Then suddenly another unreal thing happened a hologram screen popped out of nowhere saying

"Welcome, Niam the Gamer to the Zombie Apocalyptic World".

I still couldn't believe what I was seeing I was freaking out and I was able to express these 3 words "What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!".

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.

So to start off with... this isn't a gamer story. This is a normal zombie apocalypse with a system. I repeat this is NOT a gamer story. This is a SYSTEM story. As for the story itself, it's okayish to bad. The System is badly designed to the point that it doesn't really serve much of a purpose. It reminds of an old zombie apocalypse novel, my OP shop in the Zombie Apocalypse. The system is just there for the player to buy stuff and that's how it feels here. Other than being a shop and a quest giver the system has zero purpose even though the story makes seem like there's more. I liked that he's alone in the beginning. This feels more realistic in that there's little chance of encountering another survivor early in the apocalypse. Either people are turtling in their houses or go out whenever the MC is resting. Pacing is bad. It's fast and when he encounters another human, it picks up quickly. Slow it down and space out the time in the story. Another thing to note is that he trusts the first human he comes across too fast despite growing up as an outcast. There should be some hesitation in trusting people, but he gives the girl his gun trusting her. He wastes medical supplies on her and even fights a boss zombie because of her. After the introduction to the girl the pacing beings to go too fast with introducing the world. First the ninja girl, then the gangsters, then the introduction to the world's logic... Simply put there's little downtime to actually absorb the information before the next big thing happens. There should at least be some downtime for the MC to absorb the information he's gotten but doesn't. That's the only real major problem with this novel. It moves way too fast for its own good and suffers.
