1st book in the series of "Out of this World"

You ever saw those commercials where people screw up the simplest of tasks in the most idiotic fashion ever?

Yeah, that's basically what happened here.

Meet, Blu Smith who got kidnapped by a demon. Apparently, her father, Arthur Smith is a politician. So, in order to win his next election campaign; he decided to sacrifice his daughter to a demon named, Kae.  

Her dad idiotically but still fashionably screwed up the whole deal by accidentally not saying the exact rank of Kae and her father also jumbled up the words of the demon summoning spell which made Kae somehow get trapped in a human body AKA her dad's secretary, Jayden Park's body.

In order to get out of Jayden's body, Kae needs to find Jayden's soulmate.

But there are three problems.
- They don't know where is Jayden's soul?
- They don't know who Jayden's soulmate is.
- The pizza delivery guy was late again.

Blu smiled as she spoke up: "I know you're all confused. I was too and so was Kae but you'll understand when I'll tell you the whole story."

At the edge of the basketball court, Qin Yang was sitting on a long bench while leaning against the back of the chair. He was quietly listening to the English audio lessons on his phone with his earphones.
Right in front of Qin Yang, Sun Xiaodong was wearing a basketball jersey and running around the court with his friends. His every movement showed off his muscles, sweat, and heated passion.
Qin Yang had been dragged here by Sun Xiaodong. Since there were no classes this afternoon, he had originally planned to listen to some English while lying on his bed back in the dorm. But Sun Xiaodong had persuaded Qin Yang to play basketball with him, saying that Qin Yang's height would be a waste if he did not play basketball. Qin Yang had initially refused, but in the end, he had no other choice and was dragged out of the dorm. Well, he needed to get some fresh air anyways. 
Either way, he was only planning to listen to some audio lessons; with a pair of earphones, he could do it no matter where he was, even if he was in a loud and busy city center, so being at the basketball court would not affect him at all.
It was not that Qin Yang did not like playing basketball; but for him, basketball was just too easy. With his body's explosive power and strong jumping strength, coupled with his terrifying control of the basketball, the supposedly fierce and competitive game had become boring to him.
If Qin Yang were to join in the game, there was probably no need for anyone else to play.
It had been a few days since school had begun, and Qin Yang had gradually adapted to the routine. There were no longer any guns and rains of bullets, and no more dangerous and powerful enemies. Here, there was only a peaceful and comfortable life filled with young and energetic college students.
Obviously the English major was centered around studying the English language and improving one's proficiency in English to that of a professional level. Since Qin Yang's foundation was too weak, he was under great pressure in his classes. Although the teacher would sometimes explain it in Chinese, it was still a little difficult for him to comprehend the lessons.
Fortunately, university studies gave the students a lot of freedom, and there weren't a lot of exams and quizzes, which meant that Qin Yang still had a lot of time to catch up before the finals. And since he had received special training, his memory was much better than normal people, so it was still doable if he focused and studied.
A group of people walked by the concrete road beside the basketball court. Suddenly, one of them stopped and glanced at Qin Yang who was leaning against the bench. He whispered, "Brother An, look there."
"Huh?"
Liu An, who was behind a lanky youth with spectacles, turned around and asked, "What's the matter?"
One of them pointed his chin at Qin Yang, who was not too far away, and whispered, "It's that kid, Qin Yang..."
Liu An's brow slightly twitched, and a wave of resentment flashed in his eyes. His expression was a little hesitant, but in the end, he turned away while gritting his teeth. "Just ignore him, let's go!"
The youth with the spectacles turned around and noticed the changing expression on Liu An's face. Following Liu An's eyes, he saw Qin Yang, who was quietly sitting on the bench, and curiously asked, "What's wrong? He did something to you?"

Liu An said, "A few days earlier during the freshman registration, I bumped into him at Bar 838 and was beaten up by him."
"A freshman?" The youth turned around and unscrupulously stared at Qin Yang from head to toe.
Liu An was a little embarrassed. However, since the youth had asked, he had no choice but to shamefully answer, "Yes, English major."
The youth narrowed his eyes and pushed his glasses upwards. "So he's a freshman, that's interesting. Was it one on one? Or a group fight?"
Liu An became even more embarrassed. "There were five of us, and he was alone. We also used knives... this kid can fight."
The youth's eyes instantly lit up. "What's his background?"
Liu An shook his head. "Not too sure, I only know that he came to the university from Yanjing by train."
The youth glanced back at Liu An, and the corner of his mouth slightly pursed, "What? You're just planning to let it go?"
Liu An smiled bitterly and nodded, "With my current strength, I'm not his opponent."
The youth suddenly reached out and patted Liu An on the shoulder. "You've been following me and have worked for me several times. Now that you've encountered trouble, I, Zhang Kun, will not pretend that nothing has happened. Come, let's go and see what's up with him."
Liu An's eyes lit up, but he immediately became uneasy. "Brother Kun, this is my personal problem, you..."
The youth with the spectacles, Zhang Kun, shook his head and stopped Liu An from speaking, then turned and walked straight toward Qin Yang. Liu An could only follow behind him, but deep inside, he was filled with overwhelming excitement.
Although Liu An also had a group of underlings with him, compared to Zhang Kun, he was only a small leader in a gang at most, often helping Zhang Kun with small errands and dealing with the miscellaneous and dirty matters. He was a nobody in front of Zhang Kun.
In this world, wealthy and powerful people would always have enough people to run these errands for them. Therefore, he wasn't even qualified to ask Zhang Kun for help. Of course, it was a different matter now as Zhang Kun himself had willingly taken the initiative to avenge him.
Qin Yang was quietly listening to the English audio lesson with his eyes closed when he suddenly heard footsteps coming toward him. All of a sudden, the footsteps abruptly stopped in front of him.
Qin Yang opened his eyes and saw a lanky young man in his early twenties with glasses standing in front of him, looking down at him condescendingly.
Qin Yang looked past the lanky young man and spotted Liu An beside him. His eyes suddenly narrowed slightly.
'Wasn't this the guy at the bar who had wanted to help Zhang Bin?'
"My name is Zhang Kun, a silver-grade member of the Dragon Club. Liu An is under me..."
'Dragon Club?'
'Isn't that one of the two largest elite student societies at Zhonghai University that He Tianfeng had mentioned? It was said that all the members of the club were either those with rich and powerful family backgrounds or students who had outstanding abilities.'
'Silver-grade member?'
'This should be a membership level, right?'
'There's silver, which means that there should also be gold, or bronze, and maybe also platinum?'
Qin Yang turned his gaze back to Zhang Kun's face. The young man was in his early twenties, wearing a pair of black-framed spectacles. He looked rather gentle and graceful, but his eyes were filled with undisguised arrogance - so much so that it seemed as if he were looking down at everyone.
Qin Yang pointed at Liu An. "You mean him?"
Zhang Kun nodded and replied, "Yes, I just heard that you had a conflict with him at Bar 838 a few days ago and beat them up..."
Qin Yang was still sitting on the bench, as steady as a mountain. He had no plans of standing up as he calmly asked, "Well, that's true. What, as their leader, you're here to apologize to me?"
'Apologize?'
'What the hell?'
Zhang Kun and his followers behind him were all stunned. Then, when they finally understood what had happened, their eyes steamed with fury.
'Kid, what's with your attitude?'
'Do you know who you are talking to?'
'Are you looking for trouble?'
Zhang Kun's eyes also turned ice-cold, but it swiftly disappeared. He continued staring at Qin Yang and suddenly, a smile appeared on his face.
"You're interesting; I heard that you're good at fighting?"
Qin Yang smiled and bluntly replied, "It depends on who I'm being compared to."
Standing beside Zhang Kun, Liu An's expression changed, and his eyes became angry and hostile.
'Damn it, who you're compared to?'
'Are you saying that we're all rubbish?'


A mysterious faction that passed down for thousand years, with only one successor per generation.
To make up for the regrets of his master, Qin Yang stepped into the campus of Zhonghai University, and a legend began...

As a small compensation that the last chapter took so long, I thought: I'll show you alternative ways how the story could have gone.
1. the bloodthirsty hunter:
In the beginning, Jaguar was supposed to be the antagonist of the story. He should have slightly grey skin and be more like Frankenstein's creature. He should be Talon's most brutal killer and be known for drinking the blood of his victims and because of his enormous regeneration he is almost impossible to kill. The real hero should be a bounty hunter, whose family was once killed by Jaguar, right in front of his eyes.
He or she (this was not yet certain) should join Overwatch to find Jaguar and take revenge on him. For this purpose he/she has made a spear of shining blue metal, which blocks his regeneration. In the end the hero, with Tracer's help (the two have come very close in the course of the story), defeats Jaguar by ramming the spear into Jaguar's heart. Jaguar's corpse then disintegrates, leaving only a black skeleton with silver teeth. The hero then decides to stay with Overwatch and with Tracer.


2. the next generation:
Another idea was: Overwatch stormed a secret lab and Tracer found a kid with silver teeth and claws. Overwatch takes care of him and with his curiosity and skills he often causes chaos. 20 years later he is the leader of a new generation of Overwatch agents.


2.5. The voice:
My actual desired candidate for Jaguar's voice was the actor and musician Sascha Rotermund (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch in The Hobbit, Star Trek and the Marvel movies, Jon Hamm, Armie Hammer, Dan Stevens in "Beauty and the Beast" or currently as the voice of Mandalorian in the series. Furthermore many audio books and audio plays.
    
However, he was already the German voice of Baptiste. So someone new had to be found.


3. the special investigator:
One plan was for Jaguar, instead of a pirate, to be a "Special Investigator of the British Kingdom". So someone who would be called in when " strange" things happened. Agents of the secret service found him in the jungle and brought him (after he bit off a commander's hand) to England. Where they trained him (not completely voluntarily) as a special investigator. He was dismissed, however, and spent his time as a bounty hunter, private investigator and adventure. He is supported by an AI called MINA, which is on a microchip transplanted into him. MINA is very childish and rebellious, the two often fight over words. After meeting Overwatch several times, he later joined them.
The idea comes from the German audio play series: "Oscar Wilde and Mycroft Holmes Special Investigator of the Crown" and "Cyberdetective" in which Sascha Rotermund plays the leading role in both.
P. S. Jaguar's story he reads to the agents is the content of Frank Schätzing's novel " Tod und Teufel" (engl. "Death and Devil"). With the difference that the novel is set in Cologne and that not the Queen but the bishop is to be murdered.

In Korean, there are no F, R, V, or Z sounds, so let's take them out.  The rest of the consonant sounds exist in the Korean language.  However, the Q, W, X, and Y sounds must follow one of these two rules:
a) They only can be made by combining two or more sounds (ie., X = K+ S)
For example, The X sound can be made by combining the K and S sounds (X = K + S).  Try it now!
b) They cannot be made without adding a vowel sound after (ie., "ya" or "yo")
For example: In Korean, we can create the sounds ya or yo but not the standalone Y sound.
Finally, let's remove the English vowels since we are first focusing on the consonant sounds.  But we can group C and K together since, in English, they make the same sound.  Since you're learning a new language and have never seen these shapes before, it will be very difficult for you to just memorize them.  Therefore, we need to 'link' the characters to something already in your mind in order to create an association.  Let's do this using a visual learning technique to associate the new letters with pictures and sounds you already know.  The first letter of the English word in the picture has the same sound as the corresponding Korean letter.  This will help to start to create associations with Hangul characters.  The Hangul letter ㅂ, which has a sound similar to B in English, looks like a bed with a post at either end.  Make this association in your mind.  Write it down and commit it to memory.  Likewise, the Hangul letter ㄷ could seem like a doorframe or the panels on a door.  Correspondingly, this letter makes the sound D.  The Korean consonant ㄱ has the appearance of a gun and sounds similar to an English G.  This Hangul letter is especially easy to write since its only two lines.  The same goes for the Hangul letter ㅎ(H), which looks like a man with a hat.  You can write this consonant as a circle with two lines above it.  And the consonant ㅈ (J) which could be seen as a jug with a spout at the top.  You can write this Hangul letter a few different ways, so just become familiar with the overall shape of the letter.  Try creating the associations for these consonant letters now.  Next is the Hangul letter ㄹ, which is written using 5 basic strokes and could be compared to the rungs of a ladder.  Its sound is most similar to an English L and can be made the same way by pressing down with your tongue.  This is a fun letter to write!  Finally, there are the Hangul letters ㅁ, ㄴ, and ㅅ, which have the sounds M, N, and S respectively.  The ㅁ is a square box like a message on a phone or a piece of mail.  You can write this consonant like a rectangle.  The Hangul letter ㄴ points up and to the right like a compass pointing to the north (and the east at the same time).  You can write this letter with two lines.  The consonant ㅅ is like a seashell or clam, having only two strokes that slightly overlap.  There are two different ways to write this Hangul letter, so just get used to the overall shape.  It's basically just two lines."

Tang Xi and Qiao Liang's plan was to make Qin Xinying lose everything she had. She stole Tang Xi's design drawings, forced Tang Xi to admit the design drawings were hers, assaulted Tang Xi when she refused her and even plotted with Xu Fang to murder Tang Xi… 
Tang Xi clenched the recording pen in her hand and a cold gleam flickered across her eyes. It had been quite a while before she looked up at Qiao Liang and asked, "How did you get this recording pen?"
There was the audio of Xu Fang and Qin Xinying's conversations in the recording pen. She didn't expect the two of them actually plotted against her. She had thought only Xu Fang wanted to set her up, but it turned out that she plotted with Qin Xinying! Should she thank them for taking her so seriously? 
Tang Xi was so angry that her hands trembled. Seeing this, Qiao Liang reached out to hold Tang Xi's hands and said in a low voice, "I had found out that Qin Xinying tried to set you up, but I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to be sad and there was plenty of time for us to sort her out, but I didn't expect that she just didn't give up with setting you up. We must not let her off easily."

"In this case, we should go to the hospital now." Qiao Liang frowned. "Then you won't be able to attend Lawrence's dinner party."
Tang Xi's eyes had a sly gleam when she heard his words. She smiled at Qiao Liang as she said, "Tell Lawrence I'm hospitalized and Lawrence will come to visit me. Then the French media will report this news."
She didn't want to attend the dinner party that much anyways. She agreed to attend it just because it was held by Lawrence. She wanted to take the chance to advertise The Queen. But now she had something more meaningful to do. 
Qiao Liang looked at Tang Xi and shook his head with a smile. He touched the tip of her nose and said, "Long Xiao has a hospital in Paris. Let's go there." To treat its injured agents, Long Xiao Group established hospitals of their own all over the world.
The two of them immediately headed for the hospital. The chief of the hospital was already waiting for her and soon arranged a ward for Tang Xi when they arrived. They had even prepared the inspection report for Tang Xi. Surprised at the hospital's speed, Tang Xi took a look at Qiao Liang and said in admiration, "This hospital is so efficient!"
Qin Xinying smiled and rubbed at Tang Xi's hair. "I'll send this audio to the police station, and I've made the arrangements in the embassy. Qin Xinying won't be able to get out of the embassy so easily this time. She will have to pay a heavy price even if she can be released."
His eyes had a cold gleam as he said this. "We should let them know don't mess up with the wrong people!"
Tang Xi smiled, took his hand and gazed at him, nodding. "Okay, I can take care of myself. Go about your business. Don't forget to call Lawrence and Carl with my cell phone."
Qiao Liang raised his eyebrows, grunted in response and turned to leave.

In the police station, Qin Xinying kept explaining in English, "I didn't touch her! She fell over by herself. I swear I didn't touch her! I had no reason to assault her! If you don't believe me, you can make her confront me! I can prove I'm innocent!"
She didn't know why these policemen suddenly arrested her, but she knew she had to do something. If she didn't, she wouldn't be able to get out of here!
"Did you hear me? I didn't touch her! Make her confront me!"
"Confront you? She is in the hospital now. How can she confront you?! The hospital will send us her injury assessment report soon, and then you will know whether you assaulted her or not!" A black police officer glanced at her with a straight face and said coldly. 
Qin Xinying frowned and yelled, "Hospitals can fabricate reports. They are setting me up! You must find out the truth!" 
"Do you have a problem with our country's hospitals?!" A white policeman couldn't bear it any longer. He stood up and walked up to Qin Xinying who was locked behind bars as he stated coldly, "Our country's hospitals are better than any other country's! They won't fabricate the report! Stop slandering others!"
Qin Xinying paused and stared hatefully at that policeman, shouting, "I said I had no reason to hurt her! We are good friends! Why should I hurt her?!"
She changed her strategy. She squatted down and looked pitifully at that policeman, saying imploringly, "You have to trust me. No one else cares about her more than me. I will never ever hurt her. Please trust me!"
The white man frowned and was about to speak when another policeman sitting in front of a computer suddenly said, "The Chinese embassy sent us an audio after we informed them of this matter. Come here. Let's listen to the audio."
The policeman spoke in French, so Qin Xinying had no idea what he was talking about. She frowned and was about to speak, when the two policemen came over and the audio was played. Hearing the audio, Qin Xinying widened her eyes in shock. She had deleted the audio! Why did it appear here?! 
She swallowed and comforted herself. Don't be afraid. They don't understand Chinese, so they won't do anything to her!
The policemen didn't understand Chinese but they could tell one of the speakers was Qin Xinying…
One of the policemen turned on the translating machine and inputted the audio into it. Soon their conversation was translated into French…

The listening part of classes, in which children listened to English audio played from the classroom speakers, was the most difficult for Lucid. While the other children repeated along the audio, he simply sat there, staring at the illustrations in his textbook.

[Why don't you repeat along?] the teacher asked at last. Of course, it was easy to blend in with the class and remain quiet for the first few lessons, but after a whole semester of no participation, even the most unattentive teacher would have known something was wrong.

However, despite the teacher's question, Lucid didn't say a word. Worried that perhaps he didn't understand what she had said, she repeated the question in Korean. As soon as the words left her mouth, Lucid dropped his head, red as a beet.

For most of the students, elementary level English class was actually closer to a fun break time than anything, since they had all learned the material through tutoring or private courses. To add to that, the class consisted mainly of children hearing and repeating simple words and phrases, which allowed them to participate easily without requiring too much concentration. Moreover, the English teacher herself tried her best to come up with fun, easy classes so that students wouldn't feel pressured to be good at the language. All in all, English class was the most enjoyable class for many of the students, and they participated with enthusiasm.

This was why the teacher didn't look past timid students like Lucid. She was proud of her work as a teacher and she wanted all her students to be able to follow the class material. This would of course help with the overall "fun and easy" structure of her class, but it was mostly out of a sense of duty towards each and every one of her students.

[Okay, just repeat after me.] she said, again repeating herself in Korean just in case.

Still, Lucid remained as quiet as ever, not even looking up to face the teacher. Understanding that she couldn't force a student to participate against his will, the teacher asked Lucid to see her after class, and resumed with her lesson as normal. The other students, however, knew that there was nothing normal about this situation at all. The Lucid they knew was a genius who knew everything, and in Class 3-2, he was nothing short of their idol. What they had just witnessed, however, was a crucial stain on his image. And of course, nothing that happens to an idol ever remains a secret.

"You know plaster face in class 2? I heard he doesn't say a word in English class."

The students still referred to Lucid as "plaster face," even though Jihoon, who had come up with the nickname, had transferred to another school in second grade. He had left nothing but that nickname behind.

"Plaster face can't speak English?"
"Plaster face doesn't speak in class!"

However, some of Lucid's classmates from second grade found nothing strange about this.

"He didn't speak in class last year, either," they'd say.
"No, he really can't speak any English. He couldn't even answer the teacher when she called on him."

This was the greatest shock to any and all who knew Lucid.

"Mom, Mom! You know plaster face, in my class? He doesn't know any English, so he didn't say anything even when the teacher called on him!"
"Mom, you know plaster face? He..."
"Dad, remember plaster face from first grade? Apparently, he..."
"Grandma! There's this kid in my class called plaster face. You know, the one that's really smart? Apparently he can't speak English."
"Pester mice?"
"No, plaster! Face!"
"My my, what a strange name to give a child."
"..."

All in all, this was a rather fascinating tale for all the parents, so much so that it became a hot topic during a parents' meeting.

"Oh, that child from class 2! Plaster face, they called him?"
"Yes! I've heard as well. My son told me, and I could hardly believe it!"
"Me too. I mean, he was on TV for being a prodigy, wasn't he? But he doesn't know any English?"
"What happened?" one of the mothers asked, feeling much out of the loop.
"Haven't you heard from Myeong-eun? You know, plaster face from Class 3-2."
"Yes, I know him, but what did he do?"
"Oh, it's because Myeong-eun isn't in his class. Apparently, he can't speak an ounce of English!"
"What? No way."

Myeong-eun's mother chuckled in disbelief. Even Myeong-eun, whose entire knowledge of English consisted of maybe 20 or so words, always came home talking about how fun English class was in school, begging her parents to let her have an English tutor. She was so into it that she spoke English constantly, always saying [Hi!] and [How do you do?] whenever she saw her parents. If even Myeong-eun was like that, how could a prodigy like that plaster face not know anything?

"It's true! The teacher said hi to him in English and he couldn't say anything back."
"Really? Wow... I guess even geniuses have things they don't know."
"That's what I'm saying. You know, even on TV, they said he wasn't really a prodigy. I think he's just good at math, but I guess languages were his weakness."
"I thought life was so unfair, but I guess it has its ways of balancing things out."
"Right?"

The parents all sounded rather sad, pitying the young boy's struggles, but in truth, they were trying their best to hide their own smugness. No parent looked favorably upon a child who excelled more than their own kids, even more so if that child was an orphan who grew up in an institute.

As things were, students, parents, and teachers alike were busy discussing this new shocking discovery about the prodigy boy, but Lucid himself paid no mind to any of it, going about his life as always. Not being able to speak English was nothing to be ashamed of or feel guilty about. It was simply a bit surprising.

"Is English difficult for you?" the teacher asked once she had reached the counseling room with Lucid. She was well aware of the many rumors surrounding this boy, as most of the teachers in the staff room had some sort of experience running away from his stubborn questions. Only she was one of the lucky few who had escaped from this phenomenon. However, even in the privacy of the counseling room, Lucid didn't speak a word.

"Maybe you don't like me as a teacher?"
"No, that's not it at all," Lucid answered almost reflexively, as if to beg her to not misunderstand.

The teacher let out a small sigh of relief at this and asked once again why he didn't speak at all during her class. Lucid thought and thought about it for a long time. What was the best way to escape from this situation? As he pondered on and on, he was suddenly struck with the realization that he was there alone with the teacher, and no one else was watching or listening to their conversation. With a low, controlled voice, he finally spoke.

"If I tell you the reason, could you allow me to not participate in class for the remainder of the semester?"
"What do you mean? No, before that. Listening and speaking are the two biggest factors in learning a language. Why won't participate?"
"I have... Personal reasons, miss. I'll tell you, but only if you'll allow me to not participate."

She'd heard that he was a clever one, but now that she was really talking to him, she really felt as though she was talking to a high schooler instead of an elementary school child.

"What is it? I'll decide once you tell me."

Lucid once again remained silent, considering his options.

"Well then, could you say something in English?" he asked at last.
"In English?"
"Yes."
"I'm not sure what you mean. [I don't understand]."
[Tell me anything in English.]
"[What?] I mean, what? What did you just say?"
"I asked you to speak to me in English."
"But you just spoke in English."

And he had used the word [anything], which wasn't something she had taught in class yet. And why was his pronunciation so good? When Lucid didn't say anything, she once again spoke in English.

[Do you know how to speak English? How? Did you learn it when you were little?]
[No, I've never learned it. I'm not sure, actually. But I do think I could have full conversations with you.]
[I...] the teacher stuttered, her mouth agape, [I'd heard you were a genius, but I didn't think...]
[It's not that impressive. I just took more time to study about things I was interested in, but I'm not a genius. Even in science class, if there's a concept I've never heard before, I pay attention just like all the other kids.]

The teacher couldn't help but doubt her ears at this impeccable display of fluent English.

"You... You're really good at English."
"I'm not sure about that," Lucid replied meekly.

Following this counseling (if it could be called that) session, Lucid had received permission to not participate in class, on the terms that he wouldn't study for other classes during lessons. This was a given, even for Lucid, so he quickly agreed to this.

"Could I ask you a favor?" he asked, considering his words carefully, "I'd like for this to remain a secret, if possible. I'm already feeling very pressured because of all the teachers calling me a genius, and if people were to find out about this, I think it'll only get worse. I don't think I could focus on my studies if that were to happen."

The English teacher thought about this for a moment and agreed to keep it a secret as he wished. From that day on, the teachers in the staff room all looked at her in concern, as she was fidgety and anxious most of the time. Indeed, her mouth itched to tell them, to tell the whole world, what she knew. If only there was a quiet, isolated forest she could go into and scream at the top of her lungs! But alas, the only things surrounding the school were shops and a four way intersection.

The reason Lucid had been so taken aback by English class was that English didn't sound like English to him. No matter how much the teacher alternated between English and Korean to explain things, to him, it just sounded like she was repeating herself. Of course, after some time, he had learned to distinguish between the two languages if he really concentrated, but the fact that he had no trouble understanding either language was still a huge shock. On the other hand, he did have trouble understanding the handouts or the textbook or whatever the teacher wrote on the blackboard. He had never learned written English, after all.

This wasn't the first time this had happened. Indeed, the first time had been on the very first he had arrived to this world.

When the police officer had first spoken to him, Lucid understood and answered without even realizing that the officer had spoken in a different language altogether. He only found out when he tried to tell them his name. All the cogs in his brain had stopped at once, and no words left his mouth.

He still didn't really understand how this was possible. How could he? It was an unexplainable process, in which he understood and spoke different language with no issue whatsoever. It was especially puzzling because there was no conscious thought process behind it. It just happened automatically. It was the same with English. He could understand every word, every sentence that he heard without a problem, and he could answer in the same language just as smoothly. When he had first realized he could do such a thing, he had been left speechless.

The problem was that Lucid himself couldn't tell whether he was speaking English or Korean. Did his brain have difficulty separating the two languages apart? Whatever the case, all he knew was that if someone spoke to him in English, he could also answer in English. That was why he had spent the majority of English class with his head down low, whispering to himself. It had been an experiment to test his theory, and his theory had been confirmed.

Until now, he had only needed to converse in Korean, which is why he had never encountered any issues. Moreover, the Korean alphabet was rather straightforward and easy to use. All in all, getting used to Korean as a language hadn't been that much of a challenge for him. English, on the other hand, was a whole new language with a whole new alphabet to learn, and English class, where he had to use both English and Korean, was an ordeal of its own. He had to be on constant alert, lest he slip up and use the wrong language.

He now knew by experience that situations that were out of his control should be kept a secret from other people. If he had answered every question the teacher had in English, he would obviously attract too much attention to himself, and if things were to go wrong, someone could grow suspicious of his past. Even his previous conversation with the teacher, where she had asked about his childhood education in passing, had been proof of this.

"I have to be more careful," he told himself over and over again.

Even if he didn't speak in class, Lucid decided to continue studying English in his own way. Just as learning and mastering Korean had helped him during his research into other topics, he would have to have a good grasp of English in order to gain higher knowledge, whether it be in middle school or high school.

It was then that Lucid truly understood his ability, an ability which students across the whole country would pay an arm and a leg to possess.
