Chapter 11: The Outbreak II

...........

Silver might be aware of just how destructive the force of this hungry virus is as it enveloped the world, humans, animals, bugs, every living thing was its target as the phenomenon that would later be known as the outbreak began, and insects were its driving force.

A dark night passed, a very dark night, masking the destructive evil within, something that Silver without a doubt had noticed, thus why he had everyone stay in closed doors.

It was a long night, longer than usual, and Silver knows why as he finally made his way to the roof, squinting at the sunrise before turning his attention to the darkness afar.

There in the distance, in the direction of New York, there were what seemed to be dark clouds, swimming into the horizon, "Locusts swarms, infected Locusts."

Silver couldn't help but frown as he lifted his hands, closing his eyes before manifesting four Silver Effects that would then vanish.

Locusts are very troublesome as they form enormous swarms that can consist of billions of individuals. They are known for their devastating impact on agriculture, as they consume vast amounts of crops, leading to food shortages and economic losses.

However, the Locusts that passed by seemed to be different, some of them were deformed beyond belief, and they were even fighting amongst themselves, devouring each other with an insatiable hunger.

And as expected of a swarm of billions, a few hundred thousand Locusts were left behind, basically covering not only the entirety of the facility but also the farm, making the entire area unrecognizable.

And well, they certainly noticed him, but they were too late as all Silver wanted to do was to release more Silver Effects outside before closing the roof door.

Dealing with hundreds of thousands of Locusts even with his hyper awareness is basically impossible, and he certainly didn't want to get infected just yet.

Everything in a radius of 222 meters around him was within his Silver Domain, meaning a field of meat for his Silver Effects to wreak havoc within, and the good thing about the Silver Effect is that it seemingly evaporates anything it comes in contact with into nothingness.

Leaving the infected bodies behind would've otherwise been very dangerous, and this is where Silver found himself thankful for his quick-witted mind as he focused on increasing his endurance first, followed by his soul, and that's why the people around him still live.

He's always awake, and he's always watching. Most might not have noticed but the Silver Effect is always active, eliminating any signs of infections of insects in the vicinity.

Just like today, no one knew what happened as they were awakened to a bright sunny day, and so, the preparations started.

Soon, everyone set off, their destination being Woodbury which wasn't too far off, only an hour away.

Silence, the only word that can describe not only the journey there but also the small town of Woodbury.

"Has the town fallen?" Sitting by his side was the usually serene old man, Loyd, temporarily taking Natalia's job as his assistant.

"The question is, what town or city has not fallen?" Silver responded with a question, "If it hasn't, then it would be an anomaly." After seeing the swarm, Silver lowered the expected human survivor rate to about 10%.

He was certain that billions would have died by the end of the month, and cities and towns were nothing but breeding nests for zombies.

"It's that serious, huh?" Loyd let out a sigh, not too surprised.

"Let's just say that the world as we know it now only has the potential to get worse but not better," There were too many variables in regards to the game of awakening, to the point that Silver has no hope of predicting much.

"Well, It has fallen," Silver suddenly added as he stopped the car, the cars behind him stopped with him. There weren't many cars left after the EMP scream, so they were quite crowded. Only several of the modern cars survived the EMP as they had a certain level of protection against it.

Regardless, Silver put his focus on his Silver Domain as he finally got the confirmation that the town has indeed fallen.

"Let's go," Silver instructed as he got out of the car, Loyd following right after him.

"I guess I'm gonna die today," Loyd murmured under his breath, "May I rest in peace."

"I can hear you," Silver shook his head, letting out a smile, "Don't worry, you'll probably live a long long life." He didn't mind that Loyd didn't have much faith in his clean up plan. After all, could cleaning up a whole town of zombies be so easy?

They left behind the cars and approached the town's entrance, finding a few zombies gracefully waiting for them, although their mannerisms quickly changed once they noticed them.

They were from being very absent-minded, looking almost as if they were hibernating, to suddenly waking up and stumbling their steps to them.

Suddenly, they fell, the zombies fell, blood spilling from their heads. Loyd didn't know what was going on nor did he perceive anything.

He couldn't see the Silver Effect, especially in its current state with a speed surpassing that of sound by quite a lot.

"Do your thing," Silver instructed.

Loyd didn't delay further, hiding his surprise as he crouched down by the zombies. He realized that his boss might be a bit stronger than he expected.

"Decay," Loyd muttered as he touched the zombie's body. Decay it did, the corpse slowly disintegrating into ashes.

That's Loyd's ability, although it's very time consuming as decaying even a single body takes a minute or two.

However, it was more efficient than Silver doing the dirty work himself as he continued to move onwards, his domain slowly enveloping the town, more and more Silver Effects manifesting by his side before vanishing.

Every house on the way was visited by him, making sure to clean them properly, mostly from bugs.

That's when the danger of the virus truly showed itself, and why even hiding in houses isn't fully safe, bugs somehow find themselves in, and they're obviously contagious.

Most important of all, the bugs were now part of the dead, completely under the virus' control, and what does the virus seek if not nourishment? And it seems to love human flesh very much, so the zombies, whether human or insect zombies are all very aggressive.

They were in fact so aggressive that they feed upon each other if they were in desperate need of nourishment, thus the scene before Silver, the scene of a very very special zombie devouring every other source of meat it comes across, even that of its kind.

The zombie was special as in, it was huge, almost three meters tall. It was a monster, truly leaving behind any human look it once had, all deformed, its face bulging... No part of it was intact.

The zombie was leaving behind a trail of blood, the blood of not only other zombies but also of itself as the deformities were so atrocious that his veins seemed to have popped out.

The only eye of the monster that can be seen amidst the deformities met Silver's eyes, and that's all the latter needed to realize that the monster is certainly not sane or conscious.

All the monster sees is food, and before its eyes was a lump of unrivaled light, a dish the likes of which it had never seen before, so without further ado, the zombie monster howled as it lunged at Silver.

The ground cracked behind it due to the sheer force of the lung as the monster seemingly vanished, 'Only a few days passed and such a monster already appeared? Such a cruel game... Very interesting,' Silver musted in his mind without a change in his expression.

He took a step forward just as time seemingly slowed in his perception, allowing him to clearly see the monster with its disfigured mouth wide open.

He was also able to clearly see as exactly six Silver Effects appeared around best, seemingly manifesting out of nowhere, and in less than a second, the monster was dismembered.

The monster's legs were slivered off, the same with his arms, and even his head, all its body parts and blood splattering everywhere.

However, Silver was still just far away as to avoid the blood because while he was wearing a hazmat suit, he still won't take too many chances with such a monster.

Silver's duffel bag is always with him, kind of predicting that he'll face such a scenario, so he brought out a large jar with preservative fluid within before gently getting the still living head, and putting it within.

Zombies' weakness is their brain, and Silver purposefully left its brain intact, so it was naturally still alive, if it can even be called that, growling at him, and trying to get a piece of his delicious flesh.

"Just relax bud," Silver gently murmured, smiling at the monster, "If I'm not mistaken, you'll accompany me for a very long time, so let's call you, Larrious."
