Chapter 10: The Outbreak I

...........

Well, plans change, "I'll probably have to go alone, but not now." Silver shook his head as he took care of some things, and had a ridiculously large breakfast before heading back to his lab.

Silver discovered something very interesting about the virus, specifically, the genome it injects and how it transforms the cells, only the newly born cells though.

He noticed that their atomic nucleus is vastly different. The atomic nucleus isn't very different but the electron orbiting it was behaving differently, seeming very stable. That, and there was another electron orbiting it.

Silver wasn't sure how it works, thus why he was studying its nature. At first, he thought it was like his Silver Effect, but after studying them both thoroughly, he realized that they're totally different.

The Silver Effect has no atomic nucleus, the silver point in the center is nothing but extremely condensed energy that's somehow created by the Silver Effect.

Indeed, the two specks orbiting the central points were the core of the Silver Effect, orbiting the center with such an extreme speed that it appeared as if they were the rings of Jupiter.

It seemed that the frequency and speed at which they move, and how they move is what forms the Silver Effect.

"As I thought, It's almost impossible to change even a little bit," Silver murmured as he focused on the Silver Effect before him, trying to slow down its orbiting speed and basically change its variables to see what happens.

It was hard but he succeeded in the end. However, the Silver Effect dissipated seconds after, seemingly losing its effect.

'I can't change it? Or maybe I can but not mindlessly so,' Silver stroked his chin, 'I may need to change it to another stable form to succeed.'

The answer was simply more research, so he turned his attention to the next experiment, trying to replace the electrons orbiting the atomic nucleus with the Silver Effect.

They behave somewhat similarly, and Silver's curiosity knows no bounds, but he was still cautious and didn't directly experiment with his own body but isolated three different samples.

All the samples were his own blood with some differences, the first sample was his own normal blood, the second was his infected blood that has yet to experience metamorphosis with the T virus still injecting its own genome into it, and the third was of fully transformed cells.

He focused his Silver domain on the samples, slowly but surely forming Silver Effect constructs at the atomic scale. They appeared out of nowhere around the atomic nucleus before starting to spin until they basically eliminated the electron orbiting the nucleus.

The Silver Effect took over the electron's job. Well, for one of the samples, it did, the others, not so much... Only the transformed cell survived as it greedily inhaled the energy created by the Silver Effect while maintaining normal operations.

The other cells broke down from inside out, not just their atomic nucleus, but the cells in their entirety broke down from inside out. The Silver Effect's influence encompassed the entire cell.

"Wait what?" For the first time in a while, Silver found himself speechless as the cell completed its proliferation process, dividing into two cells, the new cells somehow also having the Silver Effect?!!

'This... It changes everything,' Silver blinked, especially knowing that the Silver Effect can seemingly create energy out of nothing, although he rather still believes that the law of conservation of energy still stands somehow.

Research and more research to the point that for Silver, it felt like the days passed in the blink of an eye, three days to be specific.

Silver, however, knew what's more important, therefore, he didn't spend the entirety of his time in his lab, but also oversaw a lot of things, such as the construction of a wall, a wooden wall.

The wooden wall wasn't that high considering they were limited by resources, and it also wasn't built too well, but it was the best they could do in this time limit.

Wood wasn't too hard to come by considering they reside right by the woods. Silver at least wanted to spend his last days amidst the beauty of nature, and it served him well.

The facility and his farm also are a bit away from the highway as one would have to drive through dirt roads to reach it. After all, who would want to live by the highway?

And he also had to move around a lot because while his domain is big, it can only go so far, so he had to keep them within his range of detection which is also the range in which the Silver Effect can exist.

"None came back, huh?" Silver finally took some time off the lab, joining the awakeners under his command, not just Natalia and Sam, but also some other newcomers.

Aside from the child with the Hawkeye ability whose mother wouldn't allow him to help, there were two other awakeners, Andrea whose ability is body temperature manipulation, quite the strong ability.

The last awakener was an awakener seeming to be on his deathbed, named Loyd. He's one of the very few people they brought with them only by coincidence as they stumbled upon him on their way back.

And the only reason Silver would bring back an old man on his deathbed is because he's special. He would've otherwise been just deadweight if not for his ability, Decay.

"I'm not sure if they left in another way, but they certainly didn't come back through here," Sam nodded.

Their topic of conversation was about the military as just the day before, several military helicopters passed by, heading to the city, and they'd yet to come back.

"I see," Silver nodded, a gleam passing by his eyes as he ordered, "Start the preparations. We'll set out tomorrow morning.

Natalia, you'll stay here, and continue using your threads to create something akin to a web around the place."

To which, she nodded. Natalia has been a vital part of how they were able to construct the wall so quickly, but Silver wanted way more protection.

He wanted to basically cover the entire area. However, that will take some time. Either way, they all scattered, going to work right away, the preparations to move to a different location.

It was out of necessity as Silver knew that if he wanted more manpower, he need homes for them to settle in, and the facility and the farm were already quite cramped.

Building new homes was also very inefficient, so why not take over already made ones? Silver thought before setting his goal to a nearby town, about forty miles away. Should be just about an hour's drive.

Its name is Woodbury, a small town located in Orange County, New York, United States. It is situated approximately 50 miles north of New York City. The town covers an area of about 36 square miles and has a population of around 10,000 residents.

He chose this town for many reasons, most important of which are, location and accessibility as it's part of the Hudson Valley region in southeastern New York. It is conveniently located near major transportation routes, including the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) and State Route 17 (future Interstate 86).

It's also because it has the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, one of its most notable attractions. It is a popular shopping destination featuring over 250 high-end brand-name stores, offering a wide range of apparel, accessories, home goods, and more, meaning resources.

Silver was pretty much treating the game as his path to ascension. He was treating it like a game, but despite its name, to the rest of the world, it was no game, it was simply death.

Silver might be aware of just how destructive the force of this hungry virus is as it enveloped the world, humans, animals, bugs, every living thing was its target as the phenomenon that would later be known as the outbreak began, and insects were its driving force.
