Chapter 12: The Outbreak III

...........

"Just relax bud," Silver gently murmured, smiling at the monster, "If I'm not mistaken, you'll accompany me for a very long time, so let's call you, Larrious."

Silver personally destroyed the remains he didn't need just to be sure. He still doesn't have a thorough understanding of such a deformed monster after all.

The monster seemed to have been the predator of the town, feeding upon all it could find as Silver discovered dozens of zombie remains throughout.

"Interesting," Silver narrowed his eyes, "They usually won't feed upon each other, as if it's their instinct, but they will if they have to, although some can enter hibernation until they hear a sound.

However, they also prioritize more and more energy. Therefore, maybe they're aware of their need for energy to evolve, so they become more and more desperate for it as they approach evolution."

Silver thought back to Larrious' deformed appearance, feeling like something wasn't right, "But is evolving so easy? Or was Larrious a failure, thus his disfiguration?"

Silver couldn't help but let out a sigh. Too many questions but so few answers, but he still released a smile as he approached a specific house.

He had never felt more alive despite death still being on its way to him, as if his cancer has become irrelevant. While endurance also increases regeneration, Silver was still aware that regenerating from something like brain cancer is difficult. The brain is such a sensitive organ after all.

The confidence he reeks, however, was certainly not that of a dead man. Confident, serene, strange, even a touch of the unknown, those are traits that the relatively calm middle-aged man noticed as Silver approached him.

Silver took a step forward into the basement, finding himself faced with the middle-aged man who was in a Biosafety Cabinet, also known as a microbiological safety cabinet or biological safety cabinet, enclosed workspaces designed to provide both a clean working environment and protection for researchers and the surrounding environment.

They create a physical barrier between the researcher and the hazardous materials, with airflow systems that prevent the release of contaminants.

"I see that I met a coworker," Silver murmured as he took another step forward, ignoring the strange scenery around him, the scenery of dozens of bone spikes surrounding the chamber with zombies stuck in them, growling but unable to move much.

The bones were moving slowly but surely towards him, acting like a liquid, flowing his way, but the danger Silver sensed from them told him that it's certainly dangerous.

"Stop," The middle-aged man suddenly said, not just to Silver but also to the bones as they stopped as per his instructions.

"You can call me Silver," Silver introduced himself before saying, "Would you like to join me?"

"Silver..." The middle-aged man murmured with hesitation before voicing his doubts, "I'm Albert. How did you get here? How are things out there?"

"Not good at all," Silver shook his head, "I'm almost certain that billions have already fallen, zombies everywhere, and just like this town, I assume that most other towns and cities have fallen."

"The town's fallen?" Albert murmured with dismay, although he wasn't surprised at all. It's just that what he feared came true, "If so, how did you get here?"

"Do you truly not know?" Silver wasn't gonna elaborate, and he couldn't waste too much time answering questions, not before he thoroughly cleaned the town, "As I said before, I invite you to join me... As a researcher... I don't have much interest in your daughter's ability."

Silence. Albert's face abruptly froze, and the eerie bones moving about suddenly became agitated, "Layla, calm." Albert regained his bearing very quickly as he instructed, his eyes never leaving Silver's dark dark eyes.

From behind a table in the chamber, a little girl walked out, looking to be only about 14 or so. The one who was controlling the bones was none other than the girl. Albert, on the other hand, may not be an awakener.

"My goal is naturally to do some research on the virus, and I can see that you have years in research in biology, so do think about my proposal," Silver said as he turned away, his Silver Domain having captured pretty much all of the information about Albert throughout the house.

"Ah, an old man named Loyd will come here shortly after," Silver suddenly halted his steps, adding, "Please do allow him to do his job."

And then he left, allowing Albert to think things through, not too concerned about whether they'll join or not, especially as all the zombies around the chamber that still live, suddenly had bloody holes in their heads, the bones in their chests being the only thing keeping them from falling down.

"D-dad..." The little girl, Layla muttered in a shaky voice, "I... What should I do?"

"Nothing," Albert narrowed his eyes as he slumped back on the table, feeling sweat pouring down his back, "We'll join." That's all he had to say for only he knew just how much pressure just standing before Silver put on him, and he wasn't sure why?

Silver knows why. They're similar kinds of people, to a certain extent of course. He saw right through him but Silver has yet to meet anyone he deems necessary to his goals.

He seriously believes that he can achieve them all alone, but it would be way way more efficient to do so with an organization.

Silver's arrogance, or perhaps, confidence, seemingly knows no bounds, expanding like an ever-expanding universe. Albert was similar to him in that way.

Either way, Silver continued on his way, making sure to clean up every nook and cranny of the town before dark.

Blood, so much blood, the town's roads were painted red, and only a few organs and pieces of flesh remained.

The Zombies were quite special as they at least eat their prey instead of just infecting them, otherwise, we'd soon have billions of zombies moving about, but that is no good news, Silver doesn't think so.

Just like the example of Albert and Layla, there were many other survivors in the town, who were smart enough to hole themselves in closed places, avoiding the outbreak of infected insects.

It's just that out of Woodbury's population of about 12000 people, less than a hundred survived, speaking to the cruelty of Doomsday.

Most hid in their cars which were shut tight, not allowing zombies or insect zombies entry. The houses, on the other hand, were a fucking wasteland as insects seem to like settling in them very much, and there are usually more than a few dead insects in houses. Therefore, when the fog passed, the insect outbreak has already risen.

Silver told all of them to stay in their hiding places while he cleans the town, or rather, while Loyd is slowly but surely decaying all the zombie remains.

And that's not all as once Loyd was done by evening, the rest of the people brought along with Silver got to work, exiting their cars, all wearing hazmat suits before starting to clean the place, albeit in a different way.

There are many, basically, pools of blood throughout the town, its roads and some of the houses were painted red, all of which need to be cleaned up to prevent infections.

The plan on how to do so was already prepared, perfectly so. Even Silver was surprised at how useful not having to sleep was, so much free time to plan and think things over.

Therefore, the cleaning started with Silver's underlings always staying within a range of 200 meters around him, only cleaning that area as he continued to slowly move around.

That's the range of his Silver Domain as he has to make sure nothing goes wrong. If Zombie movies taught him anything, it's that problems usually come from within, in this case, his cycle of underlings.

And so, the town was taken over in less than a day, although that certainly wasn't the end of it. The cleaning process needs to be done again and again... And again.
