Chapter 1The Accidental Death of Alan Moore

(First Person POV)

Picture this:

You, a simple unnoticeable university student, are peacefully making your way through the grounds of your school to attend a night class that you had no choice but to attend because you were late in signing up for the morning tutorials, were suddenly hit by a bolt of lightning that came out of nowhere.

All of a sudden, your life is cut short and your soul is now on the way to the afterlife.

BUT, once you arrive there, you quickly discover that your death was actually an accident and that the bolt of lightning that killed you was supposed to kill the random dude that was walking close by INSTEAD of you.

Well, the natural reaction would be to burst out in fury.

Which is exactly what I did.

Staring at the hidden misty figure sitting on the throne, I glared at him and roared, "What do you mean it was an accident?! How the hell do you make that sort of mistake?!"

The being on the throne coughed with embarrassment and replied, "Y-You have to understand - it was an honest mistake. When I sent down the lightning bolt, I didn't expect it to be redirected to you."

Clenching my fists, I closed my eyes and took in a breath before releasing it slowly. Reigning in my anger was a lot harder than one would expect.

"Look," I said glancing up at the being, "I understand that you're someone incredibly powerful who decides the life and death of us mere mortals but that doesn't mean you can just make mistakes like this! I'm a living being too! Maybe I'm not as magnificent as you but I still had a life! And thoughts! And a beating heart!!"

The figure on the throne shrank back as I viciously scolded him.

"Please calm down Mr Moore. I...I can assure you that you will be compensated for my mishap," responded the figure whom I shall now refer to as ROB.

"Compensate me how?" I asked sceptically. "Send me back?"

"That is not possible I'm afraid. Due to the laws of the universe, one cannot be sent back to the world in which they perished. However, they can be sent to a new world to begin a new life."

'Damn. So I couldn't go back home huh.'

I frowned sharply. Remembering my family and friends back home, my heart was overwhelmed with bitterness and regret for not being able to give a proper goodbye and leaving without notice.

In a sour tone, I asked ROB, "Then...where will you be sending me?"

ROB seemed to hesitate as he said, "Your destination...will be left up to fate."

Oh. How reassuring.

NOT!

Gritting my teeth, I snapped, "What do you mean 'left up to fate'?"

"C-Calm down Mr Moore-"

I swear if this guy tells me to 'calm down' one more time...

Before I had the chance to say anything, a bright light appeared in front of me and disappeared soon after it came. In its place was a wheel.

The same kind of wheel they had on game shows and stuff.

'Don't fucking tell me...'

"Spin the wheel and receive your new destination!"

'I knew it.'

A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I reached out a hand to spin the wheel. Holding the edge, I pulled it down and made spin at a rapid pace.

As it spun, I crossed my fingers and started muttering in a low voice.

'Please be good, please be good, please be good...'

The wheel started slowing down making a 'tick, tick' sound.

Eventually, it came to stop as the arrow landed on a section of the wheel shaped like a slice of pie.

"Congratulations! You are going to be sent to the world of...Twilight!"

Looking at the words written on the wheel, I let out a sigh of relief.

I couldn't help but think; 'Could've been worse.'

At least I didn't get something like Attack on Titan or Marvel. Either one of those would be the worst possible result.

At least in Twilight, I can remain an ignorant bystander.

"I take it that you are pleased with the result?" ROB asked knowingly.

Grunting, I muttered, "It's alright."

"Good! Good. But that is only one part of your compensation."

"Huh?"

The wheel in front of me flashed a familiar bright light causing me to avert my eyes. As soon as the light cleared away, a different wheel stood in place of the previous one.

"What is this?" I asked eyeing the new wheel.

"A wheel of abilities. Spin the wheel and receive a special ability!"

I raised my eyebrows in surprise but said nothing and unhesitatingly spun the wheel. A familiar ticking sound was heard and it went on until the wheel came to a stop.

"Congratulations! You have received the ability of...Princess Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender!"

"A firebending ability?" I muttered with a little excitement.

Immediately, an influx of information regarding the ability entered my mind. This included basic skill knowledge and more advanced ones such as the use of the sub-element lightning.

Lightning? Ironic.

The stances and fighting postures were ingrained in my mind as if they'd always been there. I'm confident I could easily bust out a few moves if asked to.

"I hope this is enough Mr Moore. As apologetic as I am, I cannot undo my previous accident so this is the extent of what I can do to compensate you," ROB said, guilt lacing his voice.

Truthfully, I still felt a bit of anger but most of it was long gone. Since there was no way to turn back time, I could only accept what I have now.

"For the sake of the rest of humanity, please don't make this sort of mistake again," I told ROB sternly.

"Of course. I promise you that this was a one-time thing."

"That's good then," I sighed.

It was unfortunate that I could not say goodbye to my family but I just hope they have moved on now and are living well.

"Is it time yet?"

ROB replied, "It is. Farewell Mr Moore. May your next life be filled with prosperity and happiness."

'Yeah, let's hope so,' I thought.

I felt my consciousness fading away and my body being pulled by a force. The last scene I saw was darkness enveloping my body before everything went black.
