The Battle of Senzaluc - Part 6

Puretza Air Base, Senzaluc

Rui

Rui's squad broke through the smoke surrounding her in a blaze of gunfire.

The enemy frame pilots remained calm, however. They gave ground slowly as they regrouped, pulling back toward the inner base.

She lost one of her squad in the initial push, when the man, Lieutenant Gim, came around the corner and got focused on by three of the enemy.

"Orders, Captain?" Rui's second in command, Lieutenant Sengphe Kham, asked.

"I think we've overstayed our welcome," Rui said, hearing the sounds of fighter craft overhead. She wanted to avenge Gim. She really did, but they were undersupplied for such a task and would likely have to fight their way back to base. Zai had drilled into her the very hit-and-run nature of Contingency Five. It was an avenging mission, not a suicide one, and the more Dawnravens survived, the more of a victory it would be. "Regroup and fall back. We're going home."
