A Waterlily in the Big Dipper
so what if this is fanfic? so what if this is a story based on WoW? many story such as these are still popular out there. let me name some. World of Warcraft: Foreign Realm Domination (obviously), Hail The King (diablo elements), Abe The Wizard (diablo elements), Bald Monk in The City (dnd elements), and many more on the mtl side (since i forgot most of them i wont say it) My point is. Even though they get some inspiration from famous game it is still very enjoyable, okay! What are you guys reading novel for? Arent you read novel just to find the interesting, amusing, somewhat funny part of the book? dont judge the author just because he/she adapt some elements from famous game As for the book, you should read this, its not in the category of epic book but atleast its enjoyable for me to wanting moar!!
Basically, a guy is awake in the world of WoW and progresses with his given cheat (revealed in beginning chapters). Which, is a separate dimension that expands and grows (buildings, people, and such) with resources and mission completions. This includes his personal dungeon teleporting device. Translation: Decent there are some errors, but nothing glaring. A bit worse in the earlier chapters but still fine reading. Release: Given that the book is voted in, a constant release is expected. Story Development: Constant progression, the gathering stages are occasionally skipped (as in the MC mentions them but we don't see them). A little fast at times but still very enjoyable (if there are more chapters). Characters: I would not say well fleshed but I can see personality. Truthfully, it is more of a constant progression book and some characters have not been active enough for one to feel that they actually know the characters. World design: It is WoW, but enhanced with the book's detail. Or simply put, one could know nothing about WoW and find the basic background. It honestly feels more like it only used WoW as a template for the entire foundation so the MC could have some basic knowledge. As such it doesn't too much like a fanfiction. Need more chapters then it would be binge worthy. Is is worth money? Well, if you don't have a good book to spend on, then sure. I personally don't tend to pay, but I am stocking my other books so I tossed some out to read something at least. (Current chapter status as of review: 57)
Translation Quality: Some sentences are hard to read because of how they are translated. Stability of Updates: This is one star as I haven't seen how often they will update this story when it goes live. Story Development: The story is developing at a decent quality but the pace seems a bit rushed at times. Character Design: Very few characters are original and the ones that are all seem to be lacking a quality that makes them human. World Background: We all know Warcraft's world background and the author makes a good go at using said background, I would like to know how the author intends to make it their own before I can increase the score.
Meh. I was liking it from the start and even read further in the raws to give it a chance, but I kept being more and more dissapointed. The story just goes from one place to another without reason, his system doesn't really make sense or fit, but that's not the worse part. Time and time again, the MC will just pull the most ridiculous BS out of his arse to rationalize his future knowledge or system. He'll disappear for years when timetravelling into parallel timelines or tell random thugs that Onyxia is the big bad or that the king was split in two. The other characters are all like, "Woah? Really? That's hard to believe, how did you figure that out?" Then the MC will tell them it's a secret, then all is well. This asspull doesn't happen once or twice, but practically every time he travels to a new zone to... Do stuff? As starved as I am for good WoW fics, this one just let me down over and over again. It's unplanned and stale.
The early parts of this novel are pretty info-dumpy and stale, but it picks up pretty fast. His ability to create buildings, soldiers, etc in his own mini dimension is a unique and interesting concept. I've never read a WoW novel in my life, but I've still found this book to be a solid read. If you have the time, I suggest reading this book, and contributing some coins to help this novel get picked :)
