Isn’t this pretty much a fanfic? How is it even legal to demand coins to read this story?............. ............. ............. .............

LIKEI’m pretty sure that Blizzard copyrighted their shiet in every country that has a simulacrum of copyright laws... And even if China somehow didn’t make it to that list, they still do not have the right to sell this type of stuff in places where Blizzard covered their bases. (Once again, since we’re talking bout a multibillion company that generates most of their profits from intellectual property, this would pretty much be the whole world.) With regards, your friendly neighborhood couch law expert.
veru:Maybe China doesn't have Blizzard so it's legal
The problem is the monetisation. Its not "fair use" anymore if you profit from it. I hope you are ready for whats coming if they ever find this out.
Xoul:“Transformative” works are permitted under Fair Use and most fanfictions can go under that category ... this novel even more so as the work it is based on is a game and not a novel ... and most importantly chinse copyright laws are not great..
First of all, serious fanfics don’t fall under the fair use category. Second, so what if it is based on a game. Games also fall under intellectual property(Including the world, characters and plot). Not to mention that Blizzard had already created numerous books and even a movie based on the Warcraft verse. Third, what do the Chinese copyright laws have to do with anything? If they want to sell their stuff out China, they have to follow the copyright laws of the countries where they sell it.

It is possible to monetize the content and still argue fair use. Though in our case, we’re talking about fanfictions, which are considered as derivative works and therefore don’t fall under the fair use.

Blizzard is a company based in California and although they might happily bend over to please China, I doubt that they’ll do the same for Qidian.
AsianLadyBoy:blizzard is china, so they ain't gonna do ****.
ya they can make fanfiction the problem is they cant monetize it unless they get permission from the copyright owner

How does being published make copyright issues irrelevant? So if I steal a computer and manage to set it up in my apartment before I get caught, I shouldn’t be charged for theft?
Xoul:Anyway ... this is already a published novel from my understanding and all this copyright matter is irrelevant ...
The author did not steal anyone, there is no aggression in using already existing ideals, since ideas have no owner.

Bob_Smith_1712:It may be a fanfic, but as somebody who doesn't play Warcraft or read any of the books for it, I can still really enjoy this novel
