43 Gathering Weapons and Bullets

William walked to the back of the police station. He didn't see any Xermo nearby, which was quite weird. Well, they might also not get attracted to the guns since it was not considered part of their basic instinct.

Looking around, William finally reached the backyard and saw piles of Xermo's corpse on the ground.

'The police still do their work.'

They managed to eliminate a portion of the Xermo before they were forced to leave because the situation in this place turned dire. The number of Xermo must have increased rapidly because of the sound coming from the gunshots. After all, they were also attracted to loud voice.

William slowly walked inside, checking whether there was still movement or not. He could faintly hear Yakov entered from the front door and started to check on the surroundings. The police station itself was not that big, only a few meters' square in terms of size.

'There's nothing.'

The police station was consisted of several floors, so William began to climb the stairs towards the upper floor. There was no trace of human living there and the items were messy. It seemed as if someone cleaned up the place in a hurry.

He walked to the office and began to check the place. After some time, he managed to find a few guns and also a box filled with bullets. The polices didn't have the time to bring all of them back.

'It's not enough.'

William frowned and returned back down. By this time, Yakov had already piled everything he found in a small box on the table. There were several guns along with several boxes of bullets.

"You found a lot."

"Heh, when it comes to find hidden items, you should just leave it to me," Yakov said proudly as he tossed another box filled with bullets to the table.

"True. It must be the result of hiding those magazine to workplace."

"What magazine?"

"Oh? Should I say the series that you…."

"WAAA! Stop that!" Yakov stopped William from saying his past. There might be no one in this place, but he didn't want to hear it again. In the past, he was often feeling bored when there was nothing to do, so he slipped some improper magazine to the workplace and ended up getting scolded when he got found out.

But thanks to that, he found out several methods to hide his magazines and also found other people's secrets….

In the end, they had no choice but to compromise to keep each other's secret.

Thinking of the past, William could only shake his head. He truly didn't understand how Yakov managed to stay in the military with such poor records. But then again, Yakov's skill as gunner and sniper was among the top that the higher ups decided to ignore his slightly lacking disciplined attitude.

"There's still the basement. I should be able to find more bullets and gun there," Yakov said with a grin. He knew for sure that some officers kept the weapons in the basement since he had once worked there.

William nodded. "I'll bring this to the car first."

"Ok."

Walking to the car, William watched his surroundings very carefully. He had to make sure that there were no enemies around them that could threaten their lives. As he gazed into a distance, he could only see that there were smokes from a distance.

There must be a place that was burning with fire.

'World changes so fast.'

If it was a few days ago, there would be a group of firefighters ready to help them out. Even on the very first day, people were still trying to help each other because they didn't think that it was not the end. The bomb was only the start of the nightmare for many people who were living here.

William pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind and walked into the police station once again. There was no Xermo around, so he walked to the door towards the basement. As he stepped down, there was a faint sense of unease.

Something was telling him that there was something or someone dangerous down there.

'Was there any criminals or Xermo there?'

Hurriedly, William quickened his pace while glancing around. There was no electricity, so the basement was extremely dark. He could barely see his own hands due to the light from behind him.

It was still morning outside, so there were enough lights for them.

Bang!

The sudden loud voice attracted William. He rushed to the side as he heard several more gunshots. At the same time, there was rapid curses that he could hear.

"YAKOV!"

"Will! Don't come in!"

"Wha-?"

Bam!

Just as he was about to reach the door, something was thrown outside. It crashed onto the door and blasted through it, shattering the wooden door into pieces. The sight caused William's heart to turn cold as he felt glad that he listened to Yakov's words and didn't take another step just now.

The item that was thrown outside was a large metal box. It might have been something that was used to keep valuable items or something like that down here. William was not from this city, so he didn't know for sure.

Collecting himself almost instantly, William burst in without hesitation. His right hand was holding onto the gun that he pointed to the front.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

What came into view was no longer human being. The shape still looked similar as human with a head, two arms, and two legs. However, what covered the skin was the bones. It was as if this person had grown to form outer skeleton instead of the normal internal skeleton like what normal people usually had.

Yakov was hiding behind an overturned table while shooting. There was not much light in this room, but the faint dim light from the opened door was more than enough to allow William to know that his best friend was still alive.

"What the hell is this thing?" William yelled.

"Why do you ask me?" Yakov retorted and continued shooting. When his bullets run out, he swiftly took another cartridge. Before he could put it in, the mutated Xermo moved towards William.

"WILL!"

BAM!
