Reborn Into Pokémon as Blue

Reborn into the world of Pokémon as Blue, a former Pokémon fan is determined to become the strongest no matter what. However, the real Pokémon world is nothing like in the games and anime. The battles are brutal and unforgiving, leaving a lot of Pokémon more than just fainted. The typing's are very clearly different, and a lot of his previous knowledge on moves and types are unusable. How will he cope in this brutal environment? Will he adapt, or will he lose all hope of being the strongest?

First Pokémon

Now that it was just Blue and Professor Oak, he could choose which Pokémon he wanted.

Knowing how good dragon type Pokémon are, especially in generation one, Blue immediately walked over to Squirtle and picked it up.

"So your choice is Squirtle, that would have been mine as well. Now, I also have a Pokédex for you as well. Take good care of your Squirtle and have fun on your journey. I'll see you soon Blue."

As Blue turned to walk away, he felt something grab onto his leg. He turned and looked at what it was and saw Charmander grabbing him.

"Gramps, what do I do about this?"

Quite surprised, Professor Oak responded, "It seems that little one wants to go along with you as well."

"Is that alright?"

"Of course it is, if you don't take him then he'll just stay here with me."

"I'll bring him along with me then."

Blue returned both Squirtle and Charmander to their balls and left the lab.

As soon as he got outside, he remembered that by using the Pokédex to scan a Pokéball it was possible to see the moves of the Pokémon inside. This was probably the only useful thing about the Pokédex considering he had no plans to catch every Pokémon ever and actually complete it.

After scanning them both, this is what was shown.

Squirtle (Fire - Dragon)

Level: 5

Moves:

Twister (Dragon) 40 Special Power

Ember (Fire) 40 Special Power

Ability: Drought

Charmander (Grass - Steel)

Level: 5

Moves:

Metal Claw (Steel) 50 Physical Power

Vine Whip (Grass) 45 Physical Power

Ability: Chlorophyll

"That's some good moves for two level fives, and their abilities are really good as well. Squirtle's Drought will increase its fire type attacks damage by 50%, and it pairs well with Charmander's Chlorophyll which will increase its speed while Drought is active. I guess its time to start my journey now."

Blue walked from the outside of the lab up to the exit of Pallet Town and took his first step in the grass. He never understood why it was called tall grass despite not seeming to be that tall, but now he understood. The grass went halfway up his legs and it was incredibly thick.

After taking a few steps, his first wild encounter happened.

A small orange rat jumped out at him and faced him. This was clearly a mutated Rattata. Blue scanned it with his Pokédex quickly before doing anything else and checked its type.

Rattata (Fighting)

Level: 3

As he had not caught the Rattata, Blue could not see its moves but knowing its type was enough. The mutated Rattata looked similar to its original appearance, but it was now orange, stood on its hind legs and had boxing gloves on.

Blue was thinking what Pokémon he should send out to fight it, but then remembered this was the real world, 'I wonder if I can just send both of my Pokémon to beat this Rattata, its not like anything is restricting me.'

After thinking this, Blue sent out both Squirtle and Charmander. The Rattata looked at them both and tried to act tough while knowing it had no chance at all.

As soon as Squirtle and Charmander left their Pokéballs, the sky above got a lot brighter, and the area became warmer.

"Squirtle use Ember and Charmander use Vine Whip."

Charmander moved first due to his speed boost from the sun and sent out two vines from his body, they both smacked into the Rattata and left deep cuts in its body. As Squirtle also had a higher speed stat than the Rattata, it moved before it could react, and he sent out a flame from his mouth which hit the Rattata in the head. Immediately after making contact, the Rattata's head started burning up and after a few seconds it collapsed and fell to the ground.

Unlike in the games where Pokémon just fainted, it seems they could actually die, 'Oh shit, its good I realised this now because I need to make sure my team don't die. I have to be extra careful.'

I doubt killing that Rattata was enough for my Pokémon to level up so I should probably defeat some more.

After walking around a bit more, Blue came across a group of three Pidgeys sitting in a tree. Unlike regular Pidgeys, these mutated ones had scales instead of feathers, mandibles instead of beaks and were green and yellow in colour.

Blue scanned one of them and this was shown.

Pidgey (Bug - Flying)

Level: 4

The other two had the same typing and were level 3 and level 5. While they did outnumber Blue's Charmander and Squirtle, they would still have a relatively easy fight due to Squirtle's typing being super effective against the Pidgeys.

Before the Pidgeys could even realise they were under attack, Blue ordered his Squirtle to send an Ember towards the level 5 Pidgey. After being hit, the Pidgey went up in flames and started flailing around. This caused the fire to catch onto the tree and start burning as well. Both of the other Pidgeys also caught on fire which caused them to be burnt to ash as well.

Once the fire had died down, blue realised that both Squirtle and Charmander had levelled up to level 6 which meant that damage caused by external factors that were affected by a Pokémon's move still counted as coming from the Pokémon itself. This would mean that moves could be used as more than their direct use of attacking an enemy Pokémon.

This gave Blue a great idea for later on, but for now he needed to go to Viridian City and buy some supplies.

Along the way to Viridian City, Blue had his Pokémon kill all of the wild enemies that attacked him which caused them both to reach level 8. Neither had learned any new moves yet, but Blue was excited to see what the mutated starters' move sets would be. However, what he was really looking forward to was what they would evolve into.

Once he reached Viridian City, Blue immediately went to check out the Pokémon Centre.
