Catching A Pokémon

The inside of the Pokémon Centre was exactly as Blue had expected. Nurse Joy was sitting behind the counter and was fully eager to heal Blue's Pokémon for him free of charge.

He left the Pokémon Centre and walked over to the Pokémart only to see Red leaving. Red nodded at Blue and walked off with no other gestures, 'What a weird guy, at least he seems pretty chill'.

Walking into the Pokémart, Blue felt the temperature was slightly colder than outside which was understandable seeing as they stocked up on multitudes of different items which needed to be cold. Unlike in the games, there was food and drinks in the fridges which were impossible to open due to everything being bought from the man behind the counter.

After choosing some food for himself, Blue decided to buy twenty Pokéballs, fifteen potions, ten burn heals, ten paralyse heals and fifteen antidotes. This would last him for a while, and did not put too much of a dent in his funds as unlike the protagonist in the games he had a lot of money. This was due to his family having an abundance of wealth from Professor Oak's research.

When he was done buying everything he needed, Blue decided to go and check the route that led to Victory Road. While he could not currently go through Victory Road, route 22 that led to it had a Pokémon he wanted to catch despite not knowing its type yet.

Without wasting any time, Blue ran towards route 22 and started searching for what he wanted to find. After about a minute, Blue saw his target and scanned it with his Pokédex.

Nidoran ♂ (Psychic - Ground)

Level: 6

Instead of the original Nidoran's purple colour, the mutated Nidoran was watermelon pink in colour with areas of arctic blue faded into it. It had two orchid purple rings floating around its body. One was horizontal and the other vertical with both meeting each other directly in the middle of one another. Instead of standing on the ground, it was levitating in mid-air and sleeping.

Without hesitation, Blue threw a Pokéball at the Nidoran and waited to see if it would be caught. Surprisingly, it was caught with the first Pokéball and Blue could pick up the ball and scan it fully.

Blue let the Nidoran out of its ball and spoke to it, "Welcome to the team buddy, better get you on par with the other two before we get going."

The next half an hour was spent levelling up his new Nidoran to level 8 which meant he now had three level 8 Pokémon.

Although this was not a high enough level for the first gym, he could get his Pokémon strong enough by the time he reached Pewter City. In fact he was sure he could do it quickly with the strategy he had come up with.

He decided it was time to make his way through Viridian Forest as it had a lot of Pokémon to defeat and would allow him to test out his strategy of grinding experience quickly.

It only took about five minutes for Blue to walk to Viridian Forest and start his plan.

First, he sent out all three Pokémon at once so they would all gain experience from what he was about to do. Next, he stood at the edge of the forest and told Squirtle to fire an Ember towards one of the trees. This caused it to go up in flames and start to spread to other trees. Eventually, every single tree in the forest was set ablaze as well as the tall grass.

Unsurprisingly, the trainers panicked and fled from the forest, but the wild Pokémon that had only ever known Viridian Forest stayed and tried to fight off the fire. Despite their efforts, they all eventually got burned to death and the experience was transferred to Blue's team.

Once there was nothing left to burn and the fire had died down, all that was left was ash and half burnt corpses. People from both Viridian City and Pewter City had gathered to see the destruction. To make sure nobody knew he had caused the fire, Blue returned all of his Pokémon to their balls.

He walked past all of the ash and corpses and entered Pewter City. Once he arrived, he checked how much his Pokemon had levelled up after the massacre.

"So there's only one more level until all of them evolve, it should probably be after beating the gym. It would make it easier to beat the gym if I evolved them beforehand, but it won't be difficult with my current team anyway."

Blue had no reason not to challenge the gym, so he entered through the front door. However, he found that Brock was not in there as he had gone to investigate the burning down of Viridian Forest.

Despite gaining a lot of experience for his Pokémon, Blue had created a problem for himself as he would have to either wait for Brock to return to the gym, or go and see what was happening there himself.
