Chapter 194: Declaration of War
A den-den-mushi started ringing.
"That must be Mamma, I had just sent her a message about the situation. " Said Pekoms.
Baron Tamago seemed hesitant. " Pekoms…you answer the call, I don't want to be yelled at."
The lion frowned.
"And you think I am?"
"Ring Ring!"
"Well, someone has to answer, do you want to make Momma even angrier?!" The Baron rose his voice.
"Hello? who is this?" someone said.
"Ah good…" Baron Tamago breathed in relief for a second until he realized who was the one who picked up the phone.
"Are you this Big Mom?" Asked Luffy.
"Oi!, give that back!" Both Pekoms and the Baron shouted at him.
"You don't sound like Tamago or Pekoms, who is speaking?" Asked the female voice.
"I am Monkey D. Luffy, the man who is going to become the Pirate King!"
"Noooo!" Tamago and Pekoms screamed and tried to take the snail out of Luffys hands.
"Did he actually say that to a Yonkou?!" Jimbei, who was listening to the conversation from a safe distance was staring at Luffy in shock.
"See?, I told you. My Captain has a special talent to both, provoke people and make friends." Said Vivi with amusement.
There were a lot of people on the streets listening to their conversation with expressions of horror. They were not able to comprehend how could someone speak like that to one of the most dangerous beings in the entire world.
"Monkey D.?..." The terrifying voice of Big Mom came from the snail.
"Are you related to Garp?"
"That's my grampa" Answered Luffy.
"I see…I think I remember your name being mentioned the other day. One of my sons told me about what happened in Impel Down…tell me then, boy…why are you answering my call?"
They could all feel the tension rising in her voice.
Everyone stared at Luffy and the snail with worry. If Big Mom was provoked, this could be the end of their island.
"I just wanted to tell you that…there is no more candy!" Luffy shouted on the phone.
"What is he doing?!"
"Nooo!"
"We are all going to die!"
The citizens grasped their heads in horror.
"What did you say?..." Big Mom asked menacing.
"There is no candy. I ate it all!" Exclaimed Luffy.
"So it was true then, they were supposed to have 10 tons ready." She said.
"I ate all 10 tons of candy!" Claimed Luffy.
"What are you doing, Strawhat?" Said Pekoms.
"Silly boy…no one taught you to not lie to your elders?. Are you planning on taking the blame for their incompetence?" She asked.
"But is true. I ate a lot of candy. I didn't know it was supposed to be yours. We have a bunch of treasure, I'll give that to you as compensation." Luffy offered.
"Oh…Nami is going to be angry." Vivi said with dread of what was coming.
"You expect me to eat treasure?! , what I want is delicious candy!" Shouted Big Mom.
"How much treasure are we talking about?" Asked Pekoms.
Luffy shrugged.
"Nami said that it was at least 300 million beri but probably a lot more."
Tamago hurried up to pick up the snail after hearing this.
"Momma, it's Tamago speaking. Please calm down, we could really use the money, our fleet is in need of repairs after what that Blackbeard did to us."
"Don't mention that man's name again!" Her shout was so loud that many of the onlookers fell down and the den-den-mushi almost passed out.
"We are sorry, Momma. " Interjected Pekoms.
"But I believe that taking the money in exchange for their mistake would be wise. We can also bring the best sweets they have currently available with us."
"Have you two gone brain dead?!. How dare you tell me to accept such a shameful proposition! Are you telling a pirate to take a compromise instead of something they want?!" She screamed.
"We are sorry!" The duo took a step back in fear.
They then heard her laughing.
"I will admit that you are an interesting boy, Monkey D…not many would dare to challenge me like that. Very well, as you wish, I will change the target of my wrath from this island…to YOU, Monkey D.Luffy, come on out into the New World!"
"Oh yeah?. You just wait then. I think is too dangerous to leave this island to a woman like you…so I'm going to kick your ass and make this island my turf!." Shouted Luffy.
"What?!" Exclaimed everyone.
"D-Does he understands what he just did?" Asked Jimbei with hesitation.
"Mmm, I hope so. I explained to him who the four Yonkou were but I don't think he realizes how dangerous they are yet." Vivi said, not looking worried at all.
"But you seem to understand and you knew he was going to provoke her… why didn't you stop him from doing that?" He asked.
Vivi smiled.
"Even if Luffy knew exactly how powerful that woman and her crew were, he would have done the same. There was no way to stop him."
She then looked at him.
"Besides, I already told you that a fight against the other Yonkous is inevitable."
"And you think your crew is ready for that?" He asked.
Vivi shook her head."Not at all…"
"Then, how can you be so calm? you could all be dead in a few months!" Jimbei could not help but raise his voice.
"Because…my crew is filled with monsters who become stronger after every fight and our Captain is the King of all monsters when it comes to that. We may not be ready right now, but give us a few more months and Big Mom will regret picking a fight with the Strawhats…"
"That's some incredible confidence you have in your crew mates…"
"You know?, If we asked the Captain, I'm sure he would let you join us, interested?."
Jimbei looked a bit surprised by the offer but quickly composed himself.
"I appreciate it, but my place is here…protecting this island. Besides, I am still a Shikibukai."
Vivi shrugged as she already knew he was going to say something like that.
"Had to try."
