Synopsis

Mu Yuan accidentally obtained the qualification for a mysterious game which mirrors the real world. In this game, players could recruit troops, establish territories, and even manifest items from the game into reality. His game started with ten Little Skeletons, but... Little Skeleton→Skeleton Soldier→Skeleton Warrior→Skeleton General.....→ King of Skeleton "What if I evolve the Little Skeleton into an Emperor of Skeletons? How would you respond to that?" "Evolution Points, let's see what your limit is!" Several years later, when the worlds overlapped, Mu Yuan, amidst a throng of gods and demons, had ascended to the extreme peak. Chapter 1Chapter 1: Supernatural Game_1

Night fell, deep and solemn.

Drifting clouds obscured the moonlight, yet Baijiang City within remained brightly lit. The neon lights of towering buildings flickered like resplendent ribbons, while street-side alleyways bustled with pedestrians as the night market had just begun, presenting a lively scene.

Though the bright lights didn't cover the entire city, neither did the bustle.

On the outskirts, at a corner of the city, the streetlights flickered on and off, casting a dim yellow light through a half-open window. That light stretched into a lengthy halo in a second-floor bedroom, clearly illuminating the uneven cracks on the ceiling.

Beneath the dim yellow glow, in front of the flickering computer screen, Mu Yuan sat upright, his fingers deftly tapping the keyboard, producing a crisp clattering sound.

His eyes fixed on the computer screen, the intermittent light played across his sharply defined profile, lending his face an aspect of gravity.

"This world, isn't quite normal!"

Mu Yuan, a native of Baijiang City, Xuan Country, was a traveler between worlds, possessing the typical identity of such a traveler.

His name and appearance remained the same as before his traversal, and so did his backstory. The cultural environment and technology level of Xuan Country were similar to those of his previous world, making adaptation not so challenging.

…Mu Yuan had originally thought so.

But,

"Shocking, man dies mysteriously at midnight with dozens of bite marks on his body. Who could have done this?"

"An octogenarian woman found dead at home, her true identity revealed to be a young lady."

"A Baijiang man perishes with skin and flesh peeling off, experts claim it to be a new disease, suggest naming the disease after the man's name."

"A two-meter-tall giant wolf sighted in Jialan Country, photos as proof!"

Unblurred and startling images appeared before Mu Yuan's eyes, and he furrowed his brows in contemplation.

"Internet information is a mix of truth and lies, and such images wouldn't be hard to fake, but… I'm acutely aware that these rumors aren't all fabrications, at least not entirely."

"Because…"

Just a few days ago, on the very first day he had traversed to this world, he had witnessed a 'supernatural death' event.

A burly man's eyes suddenly bulged, blood spurted from his waist, and his body was bisected in a stroke.

Utterly abrupt!

Since then, Mu Yuan had been searching for similar information, and sure enough, he discovered an increasing number of bizarre death cases, involving both men and women, though the departed were generally young people.

He also came across a rumor on a certain forum.

"The deceased were all victims of a game. They were luckily chosen to play but, unfortunately, failed to survive the crises within. When their game characters died, their real-world bodies… inevitably perished as well."

The responses below were all mocking.

So good at making up stories, why not go write a novel?

Let's not mention this game rumor; even those bizarre death rumors are hardly believed by anyone. Very few circulate publicly, mixed with truth and falsehood. If Mu Yuan hadn't seen it with his own eyes, even if he stumbled upon a video, he would have just scoffed at it.

Who believes in this stuff nowadays?

"This explanation fits with the various bizarre deaths, it may seem far-fetched at a glance, but I've already traversed through worlds, so the existence of a mysterious game in this world makes sense."

With this piece of information, Mu Yuan continued his relentless search.

The moon in the night sky faded even further, and sporadic lights in apartment buildings were extinguished one by one, leaving only Mu Yuan's room still illuminated.

Late into the night, Mu Yuan made himself a bowl of instant noodles, adding two sticks of sausage.

He carried the bowl to his computer and slurped the noodles while contemplating the information on the screen of this secretive forum.

"This mysterious game probably does exist."

"Rumor has it, this mysterious game connects to a vast world. There, gamers can control their avatars, lead legions… The truly insane part is, the rare treasures they discover within the game can materialize in the real world!"

"The game world is completely real!"

"Not only that, but players can also wield supernatural powers to move mountains, split stones, and overturn rivers!"

This mysterious game is the key to the Supernatural World.

Do you yearn for it? Certainly, you yearn!

The secret forum Mu Yuan stumbled upon contained a lot of information about the Supernatural Game. There, players spoke of their experiences, while many more were ordinary people who sought but could not obtain the opportunity to play.

A tycoon set an astronomical figure as a modest goal to acquire a gaming qualification.

Yet still, they sought in vain.

It seemed the acquisition of game qualifications was entirely random, with only a very few being selected by chance. They were the chosen ones of the world, the appointed lords, the born kings of fortune.

"But is being selected by the game really lucky?"

"If you put aside the temptation of supernatural powers and delve deeper, it is an extremely dangerous world where you could lose your life at any moment."

"Bringing treasures from the game world into reality and acquiring supernatural powers are gifts from the game world, but the corresponding price is... if the character that represents you in the game dies, you will die in the same way in reality."

And surviving in the game is a very, very, very difficult task.

Upon entering the game, players appear in an abandoned village, which is their own territory. Additionally, they have a small initial force of soldiers, which may include Long Spear Soldiers, Crossbow Archers, Bandits, Goblins, and other ordinary troop types.

Players need to defend their territory and, more importantly, ensure their own survival.

However, the player's territory is surrounded by danger, with monsters harassing and attacking from time to time. Some players give up at the start, while others might initially repel the enemy but as time passes and their soldiers are wounded, their combat power dwindles, and they eventually succumb just the same.

The game world is too dangerous!

Being chosen by the game, it's unclear whether it's fortune or misfortune.

Mu Yuan certainly longed for supernatural powers, and he had initially hoped that he would be granted the gaming qualification.

But then, thinking of player after player who met with gruesome deaths, their blood vividly splattered, their eyes filled with inescapable terror, he hesitated.

If getting a gaming qualification meant living in constant fear, then it would be better not to get it at all.

At least in this world, Xuan Country is a place of stability where ordinary people can live well if they have money.

"Rather than pining for a gaming qualification with a low appearance rate and uncertain authenticity, it's better to think of ways to make money. Making money is the important thing."

"Ding!"

A sound as grand as the harmony of heaven and earth suddenly exploded by his ear.

The howling wind swept through the drifting clouds, revealing the vast land before his eyes. There were sturdy ancient trees, giant birds soaring and perching atop them; towering cities with solemn soldiers guarding the walls, swords pointed towards distant tides; and there were withered trees and parched earth, with ominous Red Mist drifting and spreading.

The vast world suddenly unfolded before him.

Characters as scorching hot as fire appeared one by one, ancient within their Mysterious essence.

"Shrouded in white fog, pollution flows, legions of Epic stature break through the Azure Sky, and the immortal heroic spirit echoes for an eternity."

"Young man who has been chosen, you have entered the Eternal Continent. Now, please fight to save the world."

The ancient characters slowly dissipated, and the perspective in front of his eyes quickly zoomed in from afar, finally focusing on a village with just a few dilapidated wooden houses.

Mu Yuan abruptly awoke.

The vast world shattered like a reflection in a mirror or the moon's image on the water. It seemed as if he had awoken from a dream, covered in sweat. However, looking at the game that had started running at some unknown time, and the picture of the ruined village on the game screen, Mu Yuan could only exclaim from the bottom of his heart:

"Huh?"

I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. I have been trying to read different Lord novels lately but the vast majority were complete trash, with authors completely forgetting many components of the story, terrible translations and more. This novel instead was a breath of fresh air. I’ll go a bit more in detail: - Story development This is where the story shines. First of all, the MC becomes a lord only many years after the first “generation” of lords, so there are many people much stronger than him. The MC has his cheat that allows him to grow faster than others, but it is not something overwhelmingly heaven defying like in other novel, causing him to have to face actual challenges. He is quite smart and maintains a low profile, allowing for a nice story progession. - Character design Nothing much to say here. Most characters have one defining quality, but not much development after that. - World background The world is quite interesting but I hope it could be developed more. Hopefully it does one the MC can travel long distances without issue. - Translation quality Honestly, compared to many other chinese novel translations, this is actually not that bad. Issues with gender are quite rare, except for the slime, whom I still have no idea if it is male, female or neutral. The main issue with translation is the names of the power system ranks, which are all over the place, but if you think a bit, you still understand. There are some sentences which are probably chinese sayings or jokes which make no sense translated, but they are quite rare. Overall, I would definitely recommend this if you like “lord” novels, but also if you don’t
