Chapter 98:- New Bonds

"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." - Edward Elric-Fullmetal Alchemist.

Sunlight dappled through the leaves, casting playful shadows on the park bench where Momo, Maki, and Toji sat nestled together. Laughter echoed as they devoured homemade bento boxes, savoring the sweet release after the grueling entrance exams.

"So, Momo-chan," Maki nudged her friend playfully, "you haven't told us anything about your amazing parents. What do they do all day besides making you wear those ridiculously fancy uniforms?"

Momo blushed, a delicate pink spreading across her cheeks. "Well, my father runs a large engineering company," she explained, "and my mother... she dedicates herself to various NGOs and charities. They're pretty incredible people, actually."

A curious glint sparkled in Toji's eyes. "NGOs? What's that?"

Maki giggled. "Non-governmental organizations, silly! Like those who help make sure everyone has food and shelter and all that good stuff."

Toji made a blank face as he said, "Even I know what an NGO is, what I meant is what kinds of NGO.

"NGOs," Momo explained thoughtfully, "My mother works with a wide range of them, supporting causes close to her heart."

Maki's eyes widened. "Like what kind of causes?"

Momo smiled, her face lighting up. "She's very passionate about environmental protection, working with organizations that plant trees, clean up waste, and research sustainable practices. She also cares deeply about education, volunteering with a literacy program and a scholarship fund for underprivileged students."

"That's amazing!" Maki exclaimed, impressed. "But... what about quirks?"

Momo's smile softened. "Her biggest impact might be with the Quirkless Empowerment Society. You know, people who don't have quirks."

Maki's eyes widened further. "Wait, really? Why would the Yaoyorozu family care about quirkless people?"

Momo's expression turned serious. "It's not really about the family caring," she explained, "but about my mother's own beliefs. She sees quirklessness not as a limitation, but as a unique strength. She wants to ensure quirkless people have equal opportunities, are treated with respect, and have access to resources to help them thrive."

Toji leaned in, intrigued. "That's... different," he admitted. "Most people with powerful quirks don't even think about the quirkless."

Momo nodded. "That's what makes my mother special. When she was small she was separated from her best friend as she was quirkless and her mother didn't let her stay friends with her at that time.

She couldn't do anything then, but now she wants to make sure no quirkless gets the same treatment as her and her friends did She sees the humanity in everyone, regardless of their quirk status. She believes everyone deserves a chance to reach their full potential."

Maki looked thoughtful. "I guess I never met anyone like that before. It's... kind of inspiring."

Toji also seemed impressed. "Yeah, that's pretty cool. Your parents may be the first of the people who did this much for quirkless. But wait, how does her quirk help with all that?"

Momo giggled. "Well, she doesn't need her quirk for everything, obviously. But sometimes, a little creativity can go a long way. Like when she designed accessible playgrounds for quirkless children or created tools and devices that helped them overcome everyday challenges."

"Wow," Maki breathed. "So she can literally create a better world for them."

Momo's eyes shone with pride. "That's her goal, at least. She says her job isn't just about creating things, but about creating a better future for everyone, quirkless or not and I wish to do whatever I can on my end to help her in that."

Maki leaned over and squeezed Momo's arm. "You're lucky to have a mom like that," she said sincerely.

Momo returned the squeeze, her heart swelling with warmth. "I know," she whispered, "and I want to be just like her."

Toji had an impressed look on his face, this was the first time he had heard someone do such a thing, he had actually never thought anyone would do such a thing

Momo turned to Maki, his gaze softening. "And what about your amazing family? Don't they deserve some bragging too?"

Maki's smile faltered, a shadow flitting across her face. "I, uh..." she hesitated, "actually live with Toji here." Said Maki as she held Toji's arm tightly

Concern flickered in Momo's eyes. Maki took a deep breath, gathering her courage. "My parents... I don't live with them anymore."

There was a moment of silence, the only sound the rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze. Toji reached out and gently squeezed Maki's hand. "Maki, you don't have to explain if you don't want to," he said softly.

Momo nodded as she didn't know what Maki had been through and didn't want any bad memories to arise because of her.

Maki squeezed back, a grateful tear welling up in her eye. "I do," she whispered. "It's just... difficult."

Then, in a hushed voice, she started to share. She told her about the ostracization and fear she faced because of her quirk, how she was treated like a villain until Toji took her in, sheltered her, and showed her true kindness.

Momo listened intently, her heart resonating with Maki's pain. Maki holding Toji's hand, offering silent support, he knew she was doing a good thing letting it all out, afterall unlike him who had become empty after trying to commit suicide and was able to find peace only with Kaina, as both of them had been toughened by the times, forced to get stronger.

Maki was different, she was vulnerable, she couldn't be as strong as Izuku or Kaina, infact she didn't need to be, that's what Izuku wanted to make sure, that she grows up to be just like a normal girl, no need for her to bear any more burden then she already has, as Kaina and Izuku would be there to deal with all the problems, so that's she can grow up normally.

Maki ended up crying revealing everything that happened to her till now, at some point she was leaning on Toji's shoulder crying, while being comforted by Toji.

Listening to Maki's story Momo had tears in her eyes as she said, "I'm sorry, because of me you had to relive those memories,"

Toji replied instead of Maki who had fallen asleep on Toji's shoulders, "You don't need to be Momo chan, it's good that she can trust you enough to tell you about her past, don't worry, she'll be fine, that's why I don't leave her alone," said Toji.

Momo who just noticed the sleeping Maki had a smile seeing the blissful expression she has when sleeping comfortably in Toji's arms.

Her tears stopped as she had a silly smile on her face.

There was silence for a while which was broken by Toji who asked an unexpected question that broke the sombre mood. "Nee, Momo-chan," Toji said, tilting his head in thought, "I saw you come out of the exam grounds with your gym suit unzipped. And just after you came out of the exam ground you zipped it up. Did your quirk require..." he paused slightly, before saying "exposed skin?"

Momo's face turned the color of the setting sun. "Uh, maybe?" she mumbled, her eyes darting away.

"Don't need to be embarrassed, I have a habit of speculating quirks, I am a quirk nerd, and I love to speculate people's quirks just by their appearance and the way they carry themselves." Said Toji

Maki, who woke up just in time, burst out laughing. "Toji-kun, you're such a detective! But yeah you are correct, Momo needs to expose her bare skin to create anything she wants. Otherwise, it just comes out... well, let's just say not very pretty."

Momo groaned, burying her face in her hands out of embarrassment. Toji, however, seemed genuinely intrigued. "That's fascinating! So, you can only create things that you want with your skin?"

"Not exactly," Momo explained, regaining her composure. "My quirk creation uses my body fat to turn the fats in my body to lipids which helps me create anything I want if I know what it's made up of on a molecular level."

Toji's eyes lit up with understanding, the inner quirk nerd had awoken, "Wow, that's amazing! You can basically build anything you can imagine!"

Momo smiled genuinely, the warmth reaching her eyes. For the first time that day, she wasn't the Yaoyorozu heiress, the prodigy burdened by expectations. She was just Momo, sharing her passion with someone who genuinely appreciated it and understood it.

As the conversation flowed, Maki spoke about her quirk, "Cursed Eye," and how it caused chaos whenever she went. They found solace in each other's vulnerabilities, a bond forged in understanding and acceptance.

Later, as the picnic ended, and they said goodbye, their hands lingered a little longer than necessary. Maki and Toji walked hand-in-hand, their love a silent promise in the setting sun.

Momo watched them go, a bittersweet pang in her heart. "They look perfect together," she mused to herself.

The sun dipped lower, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. A newfound understanding blossomed between them.

Not only had they shared secrets and quirks, but they had also discovered a shared admiration for someone who believed in a world where everyone, regardless of quirk, could shine.

And in that shared admiration, they found a deeper connection, a bond that promised to blossom into something more than just friendship.

It was the promise of a future built on equality, empathy, and the unwavering belief that every life, every person, mattered.
