She explained because the stakes are so high that if she didn't and he found out later on that he was being used for something he didn't know...there are chances he would have gone rogue...and both of them were in need of each other...she needed to protect earth....while he had his mother to protect ...both of them are at the loosing end...and most importantly she explained all that to let mc know how high the stakes are...and how low time he has...so that mc doesn't waste time on unnecessary things

In the first chapter I never mentioned he knows...the title is the day it all began... meaning I'm telling things after they have already happened...and Secondly when he met Gaia...it wasn't that he knew Gaia... my MC is the type to not trust anyone too easily ...so it's obvious he'll question the power he is getting ...and next Gaia wasn't giving him powers to protect his mom...he wasn't agreeing to do what Gaia was saying so she gave his mom's safety as an excuse ...Gaia isn't a tyrant ...if she wanted to kill mc then she wouldn't have been benevolent enough to protect earth to begin with....and don't act like there aren't people in this world who keep their interest above that of the world or some greater good...there are many stories with MC who wanted nothing to do with the powers the reluctant hero types
