Naruto : The Wind Calamity

I read till chapter 127ish and in my opinion this is the best fanfic of naruto I've read so far. The MC has no cheats, but trains like there's no tomorrow and is cautious, which I think is another good point of this novel. It worth noting that he is an anti-hero type. He is no psychopath/sociopath/evil and he is also no saint/hero/happy-go-lucky type person(which in my opinion is very good, as I'm sick tired of reading about those.) This novel is for those that like or at least can manage training arcs. There is a lot of it, especially in the beginning when he is in the academy. Make no mistake though, the novel NEVER got boring! The training arcs were actually my favorite arcs so far. In fact, for me, the fact that the MC depends on himself for power-ups(at least as far as I have read) instead of seeking external sources of strenght(like a zero-tails, for example), or random lucky encounters, is something I enjoy very much. There is no sudden power-ups, or cheats. There is a little bit of comedy, especially in the interactions with Hiruzen, but just a little. This novel also explore the possibilities of wind style ninjutsus, beyond what the likes of temari, or even danzo, could ever hope to show in canon. Most importantly, at least as far as I could tell, there was no logical jumps anywhere. It's all very neat and creative, without making the reader feel alienated or flabbergasted in anyway. (Just the fact that there is no system granting him haki, or random space-type powers or whatever powers that do not fit at all in the universe is already fantastic to be honest...it's also why I started disliking fanfics with systems.) Oh and the pace so far is very good as well, at least for people like me that enjoy long stories with lots of adventures/training... though the adventure part happens later in the novel. Still, its awesome. It's a bit like a slice of life type novel, but faster and with a few time skips. I certainly enjoyed the pace very much. Btw, about stability of updates, I have no clue. I'm the type of reader that waits for hundreds of chapters to be released before I start reading a story. So yea. OH, and there was no romance in the novel so far. In summary, hopefully this novel will be 1k chapters long!

Forget perfect heroes and instant-win cheats. The Main Character is Fujin, undeniably greedy and so morally bankrupt that you’ll either furiously click 'Next Chapter' or throw your phone across the room. The technical quality of the writing is a major plus; it's decent, clearly not a lazy translation or a soulless, AI-generated effort, showcasing a genuine vision from the author. Where this story truly shines is in its characterization and political depth. We finally get to see side characters, both OC and canon, feel like actual people, and a special shout-out to this work's wonderfully written Hiruzen Sarutobi, who is portrayed here with a complexity rarely seen in fanfics. The author puts in the work to explain the intricacies and weird occurrences of the Naruto World, making the political machinations feel logical and earned, reassuring the reader they are in the hands of a dedicated writer. The Main Character, Fujin, is a survivalist driven by the singular goal of power and an almost comical level of greed. While he lacks the typical 'major cheats' and provides many genuinely funny scenes, his journey is not without frustration. The narrative forces you to endure moments where Fujin makes decisions that are frankly awful, serving as a test of the reader’s patience. His Anbu Promotion arc was an incredible high point of the story, full of planning and laughter. However, since reaching S-Rank, the character has become somewhat less engaging, attempting to master too many complex elements simultaneously, leading to confusing and scattered progress. This brings us to the elephant in the room: the pacing. Over 900 chapters in, and the story is only just traversing the time skip between Naruto and Shippuden. While this snail’s pace allows for a fantastic, intricate focus on the world around Fujin, which is where the brilliant characterization happens, it has led to a significant slowdown since his S-Rank promotion. It’s not exactly filler, but the author is juggling so many threads at once (summon/senjutsu lore, the formation of his edgy "organization" idea, MC progression, village reactions) that every scene change requires substantial context. If you’re looking for fast action, you might be frustrated, especially if you dislike the questionable premise of the organization. Despite these structural flaws, the care and commitment from the author are undeniable. This is a massive passion project with a clear vision, even if that vision doesn't perfectly align with every reader's ideal. I strongly recommend giving this a read, if only for the sheer joy of watching a little greedy child brilliantly scam his Hokage into handing over Jutsus.
