Wandering Erhu
There was an elf who drifted like the spring water, cold like the winter moon; there was an elf who was melancholic like the drizzle in early summer, and bitter like the laurel in late autumn; there was an elf who was destined to wander forever-Erhu, Jiangnan, wandering Erhu.
The yurts, the wheelcarts, and the grasslands where the wind blew the grass and saw cattle and sheep were destined to be the cradle of the horse-headed zither; the red sorghums, the Xintian tour, and the yellow soil high slopes where the wind blew and the clouds flew were born to be the world of the suona; and the willowy banks, the black awning boats, and the Jiangnan area where the small bridge and flowing water surrounded the people were forever the magnetic field of the erhu. The erhu was as poetic and long-lasting as the spring rain of apricot blossoms in Jiangnan. It's just that we don't know whether Jiangnan chose the erhu or the erhu chose Jiangnan.
The golden powder of the Six Dynasties and the Qin Huai of the Marquis of Wang Xie's mansion had too many sensual pleasures, which were not the flowers blooming on the strings of the erhu. I really don't know when the erhu began to wander in Jiangnan. I only know that when the water-like moonlight soaked the laurel seeds in late autumn, the dense drizzle danced on the banana trees by the river, when the sentimental evening wind blew the stone bridge at Taimen, and the scattered smoke lingered in the countryside, the erhu began to wander. When the wandering erhu fated to meet that person, its wandering was concentrated and gathered for no reason, and was infinitely magnified. The man called Blind Ah Bing was like a wizard. The erhu met him and could never stop wandering.
The notes of " Two Springs Reflecting the Moon " were like the gurgling of a spring, and we knew that those who were wandering should be helpless. In his exile, his erhu resounded throughout most of Jiangnan. "Flowing Waves,""Four Quarters," and "Peace in the Heart" made him go from a wandering folk artist to the podium of the Shanghai Music Academy's folk music department to teach erhu. Sun Wenming, who had been wandering for a lifetime, eventually died in Shanghai, a foreign land. From Ah Bing to Sun Wenming, to the wandering souls in the Jiangnan market and the countryside, they all showed a kind of patience and tenacity, a kind of progress and resistance. I sadly admit that of all the southern musical instruments, the erhu is perhaps the most tragic.
