VERY heavy on the faceslapping, the romance is terrible, and the system has to resort to mind control to keep people from questioning how the MC "invented" all this stuff.

LIKEPersonally I do not consider it mind-control, mainly because of the way that the author addresses the issues of things being so reality bending. The automatic rationalization, suggests that the system is inserting into reality various changes that make the reality bending things 'realistic'. This was really the only thing that I actually appreciated in this story. At least the author addressed this blaring issue that almost all system stories have in common. On the other hand the focus on face-slapping and racist nationalism really is very problematic for me.
Agreed

The "mind-control" (or whatever it is) doesn't bother me because of moral concerns, or a personal dislike of mind control. It bothers me because I see such heavy system intervention as a sign of poor writing.

And to me that very same 'mind control' was the only thing that I found acceptable in the story. I totally agree that we have very poor writing in this story. I only thought that just the fact that the author addressed the issue of reality bending by the system, even if it was through the system's 'wavium' magic, it puts it one notch above similar stories because they just completely ignore the problem. def: wavium - 'these are not the droids you are looking for'
