Ende and Eve continued walking parallel to the road in a distance. They could see the merchants travelling in their carriages with some guards from time time and followed in the direction they were going in hopes of finding residential area near by.

They were thirsty and hungry so they had to find water and something to eat quickly otherwise matters will only become more difficult.

As they were walking they spotted a rabbit feeding on grass facing the opposite direction as them. It looked unguarded and easy to catch. Ende looked at eve and made a shushing motion to alert her and signal her to be silent. Eve nodded to her brother to show that she understood what her brother meant.

Ende silently tread towards the rabbit so as to not alert it and forcing it run away which will make it hard to catch and make them put much more unneeded effort in catching it. After reaching right before the rabbit unnoticed Ende proceeded in quickly grabbing the rabbit by the neck and bashing it's head by the rock nearby knocking it out.

Blood dripped out of the place where the rabbit was bashed and it looked like the rabbit would not wake up anytime soon. Eve had a terrified look as this was her first time seeing someone's life being taken, no matter whether it was an animal's life or a human's.

Ende placed the rabbit on the ground to look around for things they might need to cook it. His first action was to tear away a long vine from the trees nearby and tie it to the both legs. He then looks around for a tree with a sturdy branch that was at a height which was closer to what he can reach.

He found a tree with a study branch at a low height after searching around for sometime. He dug a 50cm radius and 50 cm deep cylindrical hole right below the sturdy branch and tied the vine that was tied to the rabbit to the sturdy branch. Blood started dripping and filling the hole at a slow pace. Looking at the slow pace, Ende was dissatisfied and thought of cutting the rabbit's head off to quicken the pace of the blood dripping as well as ending the suffering of the rabbit.

He looked around to find any sharp stones he can use as a knife. He suddenly looked at Eve and said.

Ende: "I want you to look for a stone with a sharp edge so that I can use it cut stuff."

Eve nodded and started searching for what he asked for. He asked her to help him not just to get his task done, it was also to get Eve to work. He doesn't want to her to rely too much on him. He wants her to be self reliant, what if she was the only one who could've made it out of the attack.

After a few minutes Eve came back from her search with a sharp edged rock, her hands were muddy from the search and there was also mud at the knee region of her dress as she stood on her knees to look among the stones and filter out what she was looking for.

Ende took the stone from Eve and told her to look the other was as it was not her time to see much more brutal stuff that she already has.

Ende took the sharp stone and pointed it towards the neck of the rabbit after pitting it down on the ground again to sever the head away from the body, He brought down the sharp stone with high speed and applying all the power he could muster.

Crunch Rrip

With a crunching and tearing sound the neck of the rabbit was severed. Blood started leaking out at a fast pace. Ende quickly put the rabbit upside down like before tied to the rope above the cylindrical hole. All the went down to the hole filling it up.

After the blood was drained from the body, Ende search around to find dry wood to set fire before it goes dark as they have been travelling for some time and it wouldn't be wise to roam around in dark.

He came back after some time and stacked the wood together in an orderly manner which had air pathways to give access to oxygen which will help in sustaining the fire.

using the rough stones nearby Ende was able to make spart from the friction generated by rubbing them together and used those sparks to light the dry wood to fire. It was still sunset, that was why he made the fire. He wood not light up the fire at night as it could attract the monsters or bandits to them. 

He then again used the sharp stone to amateurly butcher the rabbit and pierced pieces of meat by thin study branches and put them above fire carefully in a way the wooden branches don't catch fire.

He then grilled the meat to a right amount before sprinkling it with salt he scoured through the backpack with supplies he got from the lodge. There is a reason why he didn't use the supplies from the lodge and that is, he knows that his and his sister's life won't be as easy as it has been till now and to cope up with the difficulties the life will throw on them they had to get stronger. This forest can act as a training ground for them to get used to life outside. The forest doesn't have high level monsters or beasts which makes it easier for them to survive while also getting some experience. What about the supplies? some might wonder. It will be used when the Ende and Eve are in the village, town, city or whatever human civilization is near them.

Eve knew they had the supplies yet didn't utter a word because she trusts her brother in whatever decision he has taken.

After seasoning it with some salt he served it to his sister and took some for himself. The both of them continued with their food and it was just about time for the sun to be totally gone which meant other then the light reflected by the moon it'll be totally dark. To avoid bandits, monsters, and beasts they didn't add any wood and let the existing wood burn off ending their little bon fire.

Ende then took out the folded sleeping bags from his supply bag pack and gave one to Eve.

The laid out the sleeping bag and slept inside of it waiting for the morning to come.

summary: Ende and Eve followed parallelly to the road to avoid bandits, before sunset when they were feeling hungry, they decided to hunt and cook the meat from their hunt to satisfy their hunger. After satisfying their hunger they took out the sleeping bags and slept restoring their energy and awaiting for the morning to come when they can resume their journey.
