August and Regis started to travel along with each other, while Regis was relaxed, August was a bit tense, since he had never met or imagined meeting a vampire, they were nearly impossible to meet and very hard to deal with.
Each Higher Vampire has unique abilities, such as telepathy, conviction with words, blood manipulation, etc. All of them were immune to sunlight and had super strength, speed and regeneration. However, their strength, speed and regeneration highly relied on their age and how well they were fed.
Although they didn't need blood to survive or live, it still affected them. Such as restoring their abilities. Without drinking blood, vampires will recover very slowly, making the process very tedious. Each of their abilities required energy to use. Therefore to be a powerful vampire either had to drink the blood or relax and sleep for a long period of time.
August and Regis travelled the almost gone path, but you could still see some traces of it that were left. It also indicated that they were not too far away from the place of their destination.
It took them several more hours before they reached a wood sign, with one word written there 'Kelna'. It was the name of the village that they were going.
It took them another 30 minutes, but the sight of the village appeared in their view. The arch that stood at the village entrance looked very old and had already started to rot from inside, making the wood that it was made of fragile as glass.
Houses in the village all looked like they were abandoned long ago, with collapsed roofs and plants that grew around the houses.
August and Regis walked inside when Regis made an observation, "This place is long abandoned, I don't see any presence of life here."
"You are correct, b. II doubt that those that gave me the order on the monster that lives her were wrong. There must be something here or somewhere close by," replied August, looking around.
As soon as they crossed the village border, they started to look around the house, searching for clues.
As soon as they were able to look around the house, human bones were scattered around the houses from the people that were long gone. Stains of blood on the wooden floor were present in each place August and Regis walked inside.
Regis was the one to check the bones of the humans that were scattered around the village. Taking a look at almost 20 bodies, he concluded, "There is one thing that repeats over and over on each of the bodies. Their broken spines. The one who killed them must have applied a lot of force, mainly focusing his attacks on his victims' necks. However, this also indicated that our target has great strength with which he can snap someone's neck."
A cold breeze washed over the village, slightly howling, making it the only sound in the area. However, with the wind came the smell of something being cooked in the depths of the village.
August looked in the direction from where the smell was coming from while asking, "Do you have an idea who this might be"
Regis released a small chuckle. "I guess you guessed it yourself."
August nodded, replying with the word "Vampire."
"You are right, indeed," said Regis also looking in the same direction.
August nodded his head, unleashing a silver sword and making his way towards the smell of the food and smell of smoke, while Regis followed closely behind.
They didn't have to travel for long when they reached a slightly hidden house behind the trees. It was located near the village, but it looked, unlike other houses.
The place was tidy, with a small trail of smoke coming from the chimney. August grasped his sword while his muscles tensed up. Neither his Medallion nor senses were giving him any hint at the moment.
But August knew that Vampires, especially intelligent ones, could hide their presence from magic detection and intention detection until the last moment.
Regis placed his hand on August's shoulder, whispering, "Wait a moment, don't rush. Let's see what is going on inside."
August highly doubted that this was the right decision to take, so instead, he stayed several meters away from the house, while Regis went ahead and knocked on the door, waiting for someone to open the door.
Before long, the door opened, revealing a lady wearing an apron. Regis stood right in front of her, but it seemed like the lady didn't even realise that.
"Gregory! It is good to see you back! How was the hunt today?" a lady asked, looking right towards Regis.
August walked closer to see what was happening and saw her eyes. They were white like clouds. She is blind.
Neither Regis nor August said a word, looking at the lady in front of them.
The lady, however, didn't hear anyone and inquired, "Hello? Is anyone here? Is it you Gregory?"
Regis cleared his throat, showing the lady that he was there and introduced, "Sorry for the silence lady. I'm a traveller, travelling with my friend. We stumbled upon your house while travelling and found it strange that someone lives in such an abandoned area, such as this."
The lady covered her mouth with her palm, showing marvel. "Oh, I'm sorry for that. I didn't know that you were travellers. Please let me introduce myself, I'm Rebecca and I'm sorry, but I haven't welcomed anyone but my husband in years."
Regis replied with a slight smile, "Pleasure is mine, beautiful Rebecca. You can call me Regis. And my friend is the mostly a silent type, but call him August."
"Oh, it is nice to talk to someone else. My husband is also a silent type, but he is very caring, so I can't complain," replied Rebecca before gesturing Regis and August to walk inside. "Oh, sorry to keep you waiting on the doorstep. Please come inside."
Both of them walked inside and took a seat behind the table. The place looked tidy and accurate, and it looked like someone took good care of the house daily.
Rebecca walked back to the chimney where something was cooking. "Sorry, I didn't expect to see guest here. Please make yourself at home, and I will make some tee."
Regis inquired, offering help. "Don't you need help?"
Rebecca released a small laugh saying, "You mean this" she pointed her finger at her eyes and continued "It is alright, I was born without sight, and I have lived here for a long time, so I know each inch of this house. While my husband takes care of the rest."
August spoke out of nowhere with a deep voice, "Who is your husband."
"Oh," a surprised yelp escaped from Rebecca's mouth when she heard August speak. She said, "Please take a seat. I haven't had a good conversation for a long time. I will gladly talk in a minute. Just let me prepare some tea, so we can sit and talk."
They seated and waited until Rebecca brought some tea and took a seat opposite the Regis and August. Taking a sip from the cup, she asked, "How are your travels? Do you perhaps work as merchants?"
Regis replied with a kind voice, "No, no. We are travelling to see the world, what about you? What are you doing here?"
Rebecca released a dry and sad chuckle. "Well, the life here is slow and repetitive. But I'm thankful for everyone that I have. I have a caring husband, a warm house to sleep in, and food to fill my belly. What else can I ask for an as a blind lady that knows nothing about how the world looks."
August asked his own question, "How did you meet your husband?"
That question brought a smile to her face. Loving and beaming with happiness, she replied, "I always wished to share this story with others, but nobody came to listen to it. But I will gladly tell about it to you. I was born in a village named 'Kelna'. My mother died giving birth to me, while my father was left alone to take care of me, later he found a woman that he married, and she had 3 daughters of her own, but contrary to my expectations, instead of a loving family I lived in the hell, where I could not resist my sisters when father was not there to protect me."
Regis interrupted her to show some care. "It is hard to believe that living in such a family, and you grew up as bright as you are now."
Rebecca released a small chuckle and smiled. "Of course, the life before Gregory was hell, but he was like a prince from a fairy tale that took me into his kingdom and made me a queen of his heart. Anyway, I lived in a family where everyone hated me, and it went as far as….
