"Let me put it away, I'll be right back," I tell her as I bash back into my bedroom.
Making sure that Luke was still asleep I take the robe out of the bag.
'This must have been what caught my attention. Thanks to that guard I killed I can now see mana and because of that I was easily able to notice that Madelyn had something.'
As the robe was in my hands I could see all kinds of runes and patterns. I had no idea what they meant or could do so I had to take Madelyn's word as the truth.
Slipping the robe on I realize that it is too big as it is drooping over me and part of it is on the floor.
Yet before I could curse how unlucky I was the robe changed sizes to fit me perfectly.
'Wow, she must have spent a fortune on this,' I think to myself.
And that really was the truth, Madelyn inherited one-hundred gold coins when her parents died.
But her parents were anti-magic believers and thus shunned Madelyn for marrying a mage.
So when she received news that her parents died and that she was gifted the money she was disgusted by it.
Due to Ralph being a mage he brought in a good amount of money and she didn't need what was left to her.
Thus, with a way to get rid of the money, pay back a favor, and create a relationship with her new son, she saw it as a win, win, win.
Madelyn never told her husband about the money she received which is why she asked Noah not to tell. But Noah couldn't care less so he agreed to not tell just to get the robe.
Satisfied with the robe I had it fit around the outermost section of my garments that I was wearing. Then used two layers of wind magic on the front and back to make it unnoticeable.
This way to others they wouldn't be able to see it yet I could constantly have it on.
Happy I once again left my room and headed back into the living room.
This time, however, Ralph was awake, but he was shouting at Madelyn?
"Where were you? You disappeared just as Noah had I was worried about you!" He said.
"To get this," Madelyn replied as she made her way over to me.
"This is to thank you for making sure Luke got back home," She said with a smile to make sure I followed along.
"Really? Thank you!" I say as I outstretch my hand.
"No, thank you," She replies as she hands me ten gold coins. Which were all that was left of her inheritance.
"Where did you get those? That's like three months' worth of living?" Ralph asks.
"I received news that my parents passed away, so I went to collect what they left to me in their will. Apparently, only ten measly coins," Madelyn says.
"And you just going to give them to Noah?" Ralph asks confused.
"It's my money and this is how I want to spend it," Madelyn answers.
"Now, I've been traveling for a long time and I wish to get some sleep so I'll excuse myself," She says as she walks into her room.
Even more ecstatic I pocket the money immediately.
'Madelyn seems to favor me a lot I need to keep on her good side,' I think greedily about the many more gifts I could receive.
While thinking this Ralph looks over at me with jealously.
"Let's go I have the perfect place where we can begin your training," He says with a smirk as he leaves the house without waiting for me.
Excited I chase after him.
After we travel for a while we arrive at a fenced-off area.
"Where are we," I ask.
"This is where I work," He replies as he opens one of the gates and walks in.
"Follow me and stay close it can be dangerous," Ralph says.
I oblige and walk behind him as we enter the building.
'What the…' I can't even complete a sentence as I look around in awe.
It's a factory.
My eyes are damn near bleeding due to the amount of mana being used.
The whole place is coded in magic.
There are conveyor belts and machines everywhere.
But that's not even the most impressive thing.
Mages.
Everywhere.
'There has to be at least forty,' I guess.
There were all kinds of different mages working in unison.
It seems to be a material creation center.
There are wind mages moving resources all around that the machines can't. Fire mages constantly burning and smelting metals. While the water mages put them out and hand them to earth mages that mold them.
Everyone had a job and was doing it perfectly, it was a sight to behold.
"This is where you work?" I ask astonished.
"No this is where we work," Ralph says with a grin.
"You wanted to learn how to use fire magic well there is no better place than this," Ralph begins to explain.
"Everyone here has worked in this place for at least six years while some of the older men have worked for close to sixty."
"As you can see everyone has a job and if someone messes up everyone messes up."
"So what's a better way to make sure that you are precise than to pressure you?" He concludes.
'Fuck me,' I say to myself knowing just how terrible this is going to be.
"What's that look for?" Ralph mocks. "You will get used to it quickly or at least the others will make sure you do."
"But don't worry we won't start you off with that today. From what you've shown me you can barely light a match let alone melt Vonite. Plus, we can't be letting these people see that you can use magic so I have the perfect place for you," He says as his smile gets even wider.
Following behind him he leads me to the far right where we go down seven flights of stairs to a room completely full of ore.
"This is one of the storage units we have of Vonite. I want you to turn everything here into liquid Vonium and have it go down the drains over here. There are about twenty veins of the ore once you finish this task I'll teach you some basics of magic. The more tasks you complete the more I'll teach you. Have fun!" He says as he closes the door leaving me in the room with enough questions to put a toddler to shame.
