Ch 38 - Understanding (2)

Standing in the room looking at tons of rock with some shiny patches I question if I just played myself.

'Won't I just straight up be doing Ralph's job for him?' I say to myself actually quite impressed.

'I have no idea what this Vonite is or what it's used for as well as if Ralph is just using me. But I said I wanted to learn about magic and this is the task he gave. So even if this is a complete loss for me it does make sense that if I continue to melt the metal my fire will get stronger,' With my mind made up I decide to get to work.

Yet what I don't realize because I haven't been taught the basics of magic is that it's impossible to improve your fire strength by constantly using fire.

At least that's what the world knows.

For Noah, he should never have the ability to use fire in the first place. But because he broke the laws of the world he was able to gift himself the ability to use it.

Due to this, the type of magic that he can use is far superior to any magic ever recorded.

Magic passed down from family members must abide by the laws of the world.

But Nosh is not originally of this world so they do not bind him.

This has already been evident for Noah because of the way in which he practices magic by constantly using it.

But for all other life, it's far different.

Including Ralph who believes that he is scamming the kid to do his work. Of course, Ralph would teach Noah based on how many tasks he completed. Yet the amount of work he is doing in comparison to the reward is very unfair. According to Ralph's belief.

But he has no way of knowing that even if Noah wouldn't constantly be developing his magic by using it over and over. The tiniest amount of information that he receives makes him so much more deadlier.

This deal that Ralph believes is so much in his favor will actually lead to one of his biggest losses.

Using wind magic I pull out one of the veins of Vonite and place it down right next to the drainage system.

Figuring that because I only showed Ralph a little of my fire capabilities if I were to go all out I would be able to finish a lot quicker.

'Here I go,' I say as I imagine my hand becoming a flamethrower and picture a burst of everlasting flames shooting out from my palm.

*foom*

'It didn't work,' I mutter to myself annoyed.

'Back to the basics,' I say as I get right next to the ore and place my hand on top of it before creating a flame.

As I'm burning the top of the vein and standing there for a good while I start to daydream about other things.

Countless hours end up passing before I snap out of it and realize… the ore was only hot.

"What the fuck," I actually say aloud.

Not only had hours passed as I used a constant supply of mana to create the flame but the ore hadn't melted in the least. In fact, it hadn't melted at all!

'That was me using the most powerful fire magic that I could for hours on end and the only thing I did was make it hot?! Sure, I haven't been practiced fire magic… or really that much at all to be honest. I still at least expected something to happen,' I say distraught.

*click*

I hear as the door opens and Ralph walks in.

"Wow, you actually moved the rock," He said mockingly.

"How am I going to melt all of these when I can't even get one to be hot enough?" I ask.

"Good, it looks like you're not as cocky as before," He begins.

"Doing that tiny spell of yours will make melting all of these impossible. Which is why I'll be teaching you a new one," Ralph says bragging.

"If I had to guess your spell is not a hot one but one that spreads quickly. This is probably a feature you did even realize that you created when you were fighting against the bandits. At that time it would have been best to make sure you hurt all of them. With that spell of yours, you would have gotten all of them with one hit. But if you had a hotter spell you would have needed to send repetitive attacks. And with how tiny your flame was I think sending more than one attack would have been too much for your body."

"So now I'm going to teach you a spell that you can use to actually melt the ore," He concludes.

"But first you need to know how to use the spell. We're done working for the day so I'll explain it to you on the way home," He says and he waved for me to follow.

I decide to chase after him while thinking about what he said.

Although the bandit stuff is all made up and Ralph is wrong about why he might be right about how. Maybe I am using my fire as I way to spread rather than a way to burn?

'Have I really been doing this subconsciously?' I question myself.

"Do you know about mana?" Ralph asks as we walked down the now moonlit streets.

"Yes," I respond.

"Great, then I don't have to explain that," He says.

"What about Star Power?" He asks next.

"I don't know what that is," I answer honestly.

"Well then I guess this will be your first lesson," Ralph begins.

"Star Power is equivalent to how powerful the attack is."

"There are currently ten Star Power levels that humans can perform."

"Then in turn for how many spells one can do at a certain Star Power determines their Star level."

"For example, I would not even call you a mage while Luke would be a Star level 1 mage and I would be a Star level 2 mage."
