In the end, William returned back and forth for eight times before they had enough for the time being. Gloria and Sienna ended up helping Rozan to load the spare items while he changed the outer layer. His work was fast and efficient as he managed to finish making the outer layer to be bulletproof in just a few hours.
"It's done?" Yakov asked in surprise. He came to bring over some canned food for their dinner.
Rozan nodded. "We won't have problem because of gunshots as long as it didn't hit our tires."
"There are spare tires, right?"
"Can you change tires when you're under barrage of bullets?"
"…" you can't.
"When are we going to depart?" Sienna asked as she took one of the canned food. It contained peanuts, so it should be good enough for her dinner. At the very least, she didn't need to eat chips again.
"At dawn," William replied. "The street at night is too dangerous. However, we'll move here tonight."
"Eh? We're going to sleep in the camping bus?" Yakov asked with surprise.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"We'll need to get used to it. Also, this garage is safer than the house."
Rozan nodded. He also preferred to sleep inside this garage rather than his house because the fence around the house was simply not strong enough. There was a Xermo that managed to breach in and disrupted his sleep just yesterday, so he was thinking of sleeping here too.
William stretched his body. Moving the metals and many other items over the span of few hours were incredibly tiring. He truly wondered why they needed so much. But seeing the newly reconstructed camping bus, he felt that it was worth it.
"Can we even fit inside?"
"The third bed at the top is a bit small," Rozan said sheepishly. "I don't think anyone other than children can fit."
At this time, the others immediately looked at Gloria. She might be an adult, but her body's size was similar to that of children.
Gloria's face turned dark. "It means I need to sleep at the top?"
"Yes."
"Fine."
"Before that, have you finished charging my phone?" William asked.
"Oh right, let me take it first."
As Gloria rushed to take the phone with Yakov accompanying her, William took the canned food to eat. He looked at the can and thought about the future. The canned food could only last for three years at most and that was a very conservative estimation. It might only last for a year or two.
Afterwards, they would need to find a method to supply food or they would die.
It didn't take long for Gloria to return back with her bag and also their phones. She gave them back to their respective owner before she began to eat again.
Taking his phone, William noticed that the Wi-Fi was connected. He looked at Gloria with arched eyebrows. "The signal reach this place?"
"Yes. I moved it to the edge of the house. It'll be slow, but you can still connect."
"Slow is fine."
Just being able to use internet was already more than good enough. William chose to access his social media and waited for the page to load. Like what Gloria told him, it was a slow process. He chose to stand near the door so that he would be able to get better signal.
There were no messages from his friends. Was it to be expected? He didn't know.
After some time, William chose to type some messages and sent it to a few people. He didn't know whether they were still alive or not, but if they managed to access their social media, they would be able to get this message. There was nothing he could do but hope that everything will work out fine.
Yakov watched from the side and then looked at Gloria. "If you can connect to the internet, can you make phone?"
Gloria looked at Yakov as if she was seeing the biggest idiot on the world. "There's no way you can built a phone by hand without the help of machine."
"Why?"
"Many of the components are nanometers in size. Do you really think I can move that kind of component by hand?"
"Eh?" Yakov's mind blanked. Nanometers meant that it was 0.000000001 meters, right? There were so many zeros to the point that he felt dizzy just thinking about it.
"It's that small?"
"Yes."
"Seriously?"
"Yes."
Rozan shook his head when he saw Yakov's disbelief expression. Even an old man like him knew what Gloria said was true.
"Young man, you're quite slow."
"HUH?"
Not only Rozan, even Sienna watched from the side with a bitter smile. Did this Yakov truly didn't know that the technology at this point of time already used a lot of components that were only a few nanometers in size? She might not be familiar with technology as much as Gloria, but she still knew because the medical equipment that she used back then also needed components that were very small.
She glanced at her own phone and turned it on. Gloria already inputted the Wi-Fi code so that she would be able to use it. It didn't take long before Sienna managed to connect to her social media and tried to contact her friends.
If their phone still had some battery, they might be able to answer.
Hopefully.
