Primal online

Since childhood Wyatt has always followed the advice of the adults around him. Study hard! get a good job! honestly not bad advice the problem is that's all he has ever done. In the year 2200 the first immersive full-body VR system is being released and with it comes the insanely hyped MMORPG Primal Online. With everything, someone could ever want from a fantasy game, it's no surprise when it takes the world by storm. Never taking any time for hobbies or interests Wyatt's life has quickly fallen into a constant loop of mundane boredom waiting to be broken. This all changes one day when his cousin invites him to try this new game during a family get-together. It doesn't take long for a spark of interest to emerge. Disclaimer: This is my first novel as well as where I plan to simply practice writing to get more comfortable so I don't know how detailed or active it will be.

Choosing a weapon

After the quick introduction, Saleen continued.

"Now may I ask why you are looking for me?" she said tilting her head with a curious gaze.

"Well, you see I'm new to this place and asked a guard where I should start. He informed me that first I should head inside here and learn about the different types of weapons from an instructor before choosing one for myself" Wyatt responded

During this time of introduction, Wyatt was finally able to get a clear look at the female instructor before him. Long Silver hair could be seen tied up in a messy braid flowing down her back with many hairs starting to untangle from the earlier movements.

Besides the two unique circular weapons, Saleens outfit wasn't anything spectacular just some light leather armor over some standard exercise clothing. Taking a closer look Wyatt was able to notice pointed ears barely peeking out of her disheveled silver hair giving credit to her half-elf lineage.

"Oh, no problem come follow me to the weapon rack over there ill teach you the basics" Saleem answered with a smile while gesturing him over to a large self full of more weapons than Wyatt could possibly imagine.

While the two walked Saleen continued with a brief introduction over the more common weapons available. "Well, the most popular choice these days would be either the sword or rapier I'm sure you noticed the line at the entrance" a slight sigh could be heard as she said this.

"Besides this, every weapon has its strengths and weakness for example spears have a longer reach than most bladed weapons but this puts them at a disadvantage against someone able to get in really close to them. Bows are pretty obvious extremely long-range while being weak against pretty much any melee opponent in a head-on fight" She stated finally arriving at the weapon rack.

"As for swords although pretty well balanced they have a shorter range than some blade weapons while being heavier than most weapons available. Rapiers counter the problem of weight by making the blade much thinner and lighter but this also means they often struggle to do large amounts of damage in a single strike resulting in warriors who use them relying more on quick jabs and speed.

Saleen continued her lecture for another couple minutes going through the differences between weapons while pointing them out one by one on the shelf.

"So Twite have you decided what you want to learn?" she asked finally finishing her speech.

During this time Wyatt could often be seen glancing down at the weird circular weapons hanging at Saleens sides.

"Honestly miss Saleen I have no idea where to even start" He confessed while staring at the arranged weapons all around him.

This got a chuckle out of her since most adventures come in with some sort of plan or focus so it's rare to see a completely amateur just hopelessly staring at the weapons.

Deciding there was no reason to rush his choice Wyatt continued the conversation. "By the way can you tell me about those weapons you use? I've never seen anything like it before" he inquired.

"ah these are my chakrams" Saleen stated while a beautiful smile started growing on her face.

"Chakrams are an old unpopular weapon that is mostly forgotten about since no one wants to use large single use throwing weapons. Well besides me I guess but I'm unique in that I'm a Chakram magician meaning I can imbue mana into my weapons and control them in the air." She told him while throwing one of her weapons and letting him watch it fly back to her.

"This is much more convenient since I don't worry about losing my weapons. I can also Channel some of my elemental mana into them Causing the blade to burn my enemies when they get hit"

Wyatt watched as the circular blade began to heat until it became a dark shade of orange while the heat it unleashed also continued to climb. Not long after the blade could be seen slicing through a wooden dummy which quickly set it ablaze.

Having his interest piqued by the Chakrams and not caring much about the logistics around the different weapons since he still believed this was just a quick game that he wouldn't play much Wyatt finally decided on an answer.

"Instructor Saleen can you teach me how to become a chakram magician?" he asked giving a slight bow to the older lady.

Her eyes widened for a second before quickly readjusting before she answered him.

"Are you sure? Chakrams aren't the most convenient weapons around and don't even get me started on the countless hours of footwork and flexibility training just to be able to effectively use them in battle" She replied questioning his commitment to it.

Wyatt didn't even need a second to consider before he replied " I am sure! honestly miss Saleen I had no idea what weapon I wanted before I came here but after watching you earlier I immediately felt captivated like I was being drawn in."

A light blush took her cheeks due to the flattery of the younger boy.

"Sigh ok how about this a chakram magician needs an affinity for wind mana for them to be efficient and I have no plans of teaching someone without even the basic talent. So first of all why don't we test your mana affinities to see if you qualify after that if you are still interested ill consider it."

"Sure I have no problem with that" Wyatt declared

After that Saleen directed Wyatt to a room along the back of the training space for the affinity test.

While walking over the conversation about affinities quickly reminded Wyatt that he had been ignoring probably the most important mechanic in any MMORPG so without further delay he called out.

"Status"

[status] [username: Twite] [level:1] [health: 200/200 [class: none] [subclass: none] [strength: 15] [defense: 15] [mana: 15] [agility: 15] [endurance: 15] [affinity: ???] [pets: none] [unassigned stat points: 20]

Finally getting a look at his status and his unassigned points Wyatt thought about the best choices going forward as a chakram magician. Deciding to go for current efficiency judging by the movements of the instructor earlier he chose to ignore strength and defense focusing on his mana and overall movement.

Decisively he added 10 points to his mana while splitting the rest 5/5 into his agility and endurance bringing them all up to 25 20 20 respectively.

(alrighty looks good enough) Wyatt thought while nodding to himself.

After the short walk following the half-elf instructor, they arrived in front of a doorway covered by a long red drape which was quickly moved out of the way so the two of them could enter. Curiosity flashed across Wyatts face as he examine the mostly empty perfectly square room.

Starting in each corner of the room along the floor red symbols belonging to some ancient language Wyatt had never seen before could be seen drawn diagonally leading towards the center of the room. Alongside the 4 diagonal lines, 3 rings written in the same language surrounded the middle of the room which had a massive floating crystal that was constantly changing colors.

"Done admiring the elemental crystal yet?" Saleen inquired while giggling at Wyatts curious gaze which soon relaxed back to normal.

"How about we find out if you're even worth teaching? Get over there and grab that crystal." Said Saleen gesturing him towards the middle of the room.
