Chapter 32 Bitten By A Wild Dog
"Forget about roaming the city, I want a pass to one of the city libraries," Alfred said.
"Why do you want a library pass?" John asked.
"After watching your fight and seeing how big this world is, I want to learn new knowledge," Alfred replied.
"There is no need to go to the city library, the army base has its own library. It's even better equipped and has more in-depth knowledge than the public library" John assured him.
"Good. The closer, the better" Alfred smiled.
John tapped on his com-link a few times before Alfred received a temporary soldier-level library pass on his com-link.
"Since we'll be here for five days, the pass will allow you five days of unlimited access to the first three levels of the military library." John looked at Alfred with sus in his eyes. "I'll quiz you every day on what you learn."
'Bring it on!'
Alfred rolled his eyes.
Alfred waved John goodbye and then made his way to his destination in a mad rush.
...
The library was on the opposite side of the main building from the direction of the army commanders' hostel.
Huffing and puffing, Alfred walked a total of 6km before reaching his destination. He circled the main building and cafeteria, both of which were excessively large and gobbled up the majority of the street.
The library wasn't as large as the preceding two buildings, but that was only relatively speaking. He looked up at the 100m tall twenty-four-storey building that looked like a standard modern building with its floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The base was also quite wide, with a width of 400-450m.
Walking into the building, Alfred saw a row of a dozen or so receptionists eight meters away from the large doors.
When he entered the building, almost all eyes fixed on him immediately, rendering him uncomfortable.
"Whose fat kid is this?" One of the receptionists noisily asked.
"Maybe he's lost?" Another one chimed in.
"Call security and have them find his parents, or just throw him out. These damn careless people, leaving their baggage lying around for others to deal with!" One of the older receptionists with a dark and dour expression that looked as if everyone owed her money yelled out.
"..."
'Old bitch! This happens whenever she sees kids. No wonder she is still single...'
The other receptionists gave her the stink eye.
"Little brother, where are your parents? Are you lost?"
One of the receptionists walked over with a sweet smile while stooping in front of Alfred.
Alfred sized up this average-looking but tall and pleasing-to-the-eye young lady with her nice temperament. She had ink-black hair, a normal-looking oval face, clear blue eyes, and was about 175cm (5 foot 9 inches) tall, while dressed in her standard purple office uniform.
"This elder sister, I am not lost. I am here to enter and use the library" Alfred clarified.
"Kid, go back and suck on your mama's tits. This isn't a public library, nor is it your daddy's private collection. Get lost before I have security toss you out!"
Before anyone could respond, the sour-looking bitter-faced receptionist was having none of his nonsense. What does a little brat want in the army library? Since when was every Tom, Dick, and Jenny permitted to just swagger into this place? Did they think this place was a public latrine? Everyone gets a turn type of thing?
Alfred's face darkened instantly.
'Did this old bitch think he was just some street tramp?'
"What does it have to do with you? Does this building belong to you? Do I owe you money? Why don't you do your job, and stop disgusting people with your ugly face? Do you even get paid to work here? Why do you seem more like a guard dog instead of an employee? Did your owner not feed you this morning? Did menopause take you?..."
'Fierce!'
The receptionists and soldiers passing by had their mouths agape almost falling to the floor, and eyes wide open with shock.
"Seriously, who's fucking wild kid is this!?"
"Dayum! Who pissed off this kid!?"
"It's that bitter old bitch again... I've always wanted to teach her a lesson." A young female soldier scolded.
"Indeed. But... isn't this kid a little too wild? Even if he has a pass, now he definitely can't enter." An older soldier shook his head with pity.
"If the kid has a pass, the hag can't stop him anyway." The earlier female soldier said.
"You're wrong." The old soldier shook his head. "I heard it through the grapevine, but why do you think she can be so wild with no one bothering with her for so many years?" he asked.
"Don't tell me..." one of the eavesdropping soldiers butted in.
"That's right, her brother's wife's uncle's girlfriend's father's son-in-law is one of the Library chiefs. She abuses others because she has such connections." The old soldier looked at the woman with scorn.
"..."
The woman was speechless, and then...
"Hahaha!"
She wiped her tears while laughing half to death.
"Kenny, come arrest this kid for verbally abusing the nation's security personnel on army property." She laughed with sadistic glee.
"Annie! Don't go too far! Don't forget that this child has parents too. How can you go around randomly biting people like a rabid dog all the time? Do you think rules don't exist!? Do you want to cover the skies with what little background you have?" The tall blue-eyed receptionist stood in front of Alfred with her hands open, trying to protect him. A deep frown nestled on her face.
"Who cares what parents he has? This fucking brat is too vulgar! Let his parents come kneel before me, then I'll think of letting the matter go. Humph! I've been abusing people long before his daddy was even drinking milk! Since when was it his turn to scold this mommy?" She sneered.
"Don't you think you're being too unreasonable?" She pleaded, trying to de-escalate the situation.
"Unreasonable? So what if I'm unreasonable? Why should I be reasonable to this pissy brat? Why didn't you tell that to those ten men to be reasonable back then?" Her eyes dripped scarlet with venom and bloodlust.
"..."
"Ten men!?"
"Damn! No wonder she's always so bitter..."
Some of the female soldiers looked at her with pity in their eyes. The men on the other hand shook their heads in pity for a different reason.
'Were those men so thirsty? These men that bite into every rotten fruit...'
Of course, they could only think about it, but not dare to say it. This was an army base with laws and discipline after all. But, naturally, exceptions exist everywhere.
Alfred also pitied her... a little.
"So you've had such a rough patch in life. I understand it must have been hard on you, but shouldn't you move on with your life? Being bitter towards every random stranger you see will not erase your trauma, no matter how much you try..." Alfred tried to advise her.
"Damn kid! You're what? 6? And you're trying to lecture me? What do you understand? I will bite you today! So what? Your parents will have to scrape their knees to take you away from here!" She glared sinisterly at the little fatty.
"You can't afford to have my daddy looking at you, much less have him kneel before you. If you can take it, then you can do whatever you want with me." Alfred gave her a final chance.
"Hahaha! What a good 'You can't afford to have my daddy looking at you'. Good! Good! Good! I want to see what kind of battle God your daddy is! Do you think your daddy's name is Geri Zekes? Hahaha!" She went berserk.
"No. Geri Zekes is my uncle. My father's name is John D. Gibbs, you can also call him Blood Marshall John D. Gibbs."
"Hahaha-...Eh!?" She froze.
"..."
The onlookers looked at Alfred, then looked at the crazy hag... speechless.
"Well, I did try to warn you before..." Alfred said before tapping on his com-link while looking at her with pity in his eyes.
This old hag went too far. He learned from his previous life, that you can't be too forgiving with these kinds of people. Otherwise, once you give them a piece of bread, then they will always want a full spread.
Apologies about the late chapter. My nephew had his first birthday out of many to come yesterday and they live out of town, so we spent the whole day on the road.
