##Chapter 14 No Place for Us

He was looking at me!

Was he not?

Renata was still happy about Nathan looking at her for a second.

"So he was as fine as the legend told."

"Just listen to that voice. It sounded like a chant. It had that holy power to keep ringing in your head."

"What kind of lady do you think he likes?"

"Anything but someone like you. I hope he likes my type."

Someone rolled her eyes.

The crowd of beauties glued their eyes to him while chattering. They were so afraid to miss a single second of enjoying his fine look.

The conference passed in the blink of an eye. As Nathan left the stage, he paused again in front of Renata. She could almost see him smiling at her.

"Did someone see that? Is he into me?"

Renata started to blush. As she watched him leaving the room, her heart raced like crazy.

"Of course, it wasn't just me.

He looked at me, and he even smiled.

Hooray!"

Renata covered her face and laughed.

"Is she alright?"

The lady next seat looked at her as if looking at an ape in heat.

"Yeah, she just had a heart attack for that guy,"

another lady commented with a glance at Renata. She then left in disdain.

"Did you know that lady just now?"

Glenn was his secretary. He always had the eye out to observe everything around Nathan every day.

Nathan didn't say a single word, but that suppressive aura around him was already at work. He had an indescribable expression on his face.

Well, that was Nathan. If you ever asked him something and got nothing in reply, it would then be suicide if you had the balls to ask him the same thing again. Seeing him like this, Glenn knew better than adding anything.

"Are we heading back to the office or..."

As they got back to the car, Glenn still had to abide by his decision. Otherwise, it would then be yet another round of roasting.

Nathan stared at his watch. Everyone at the conference was having lunch, and it was high time for a break. He wondered whether Sharon got anything to eat. As she saw Renata just now, he couldn't help thinking of Sharon.

"Get off,"

Nathan ordered. Glenn then quickly got up and had Nathan drive himself.

As Nathan started settling down on the driver's seat, Glenn looked at him with great bewilderment.

"Wh-what about me..."

Nathan glanced at him and replied, "Get a ride yourself." Then he drove away.

"Where was he going?

He wasn't off to the office, and he didn't allow anyone to follow him,"

Glenn let out a sigh and got on the guards' van.

Sharon sat down on the couch in the living room and held out the remote for the TV set. She was but a girl fresh out of college, so she loved dramas, sitcoms, and melodramatic love stories. Yet for the moment, she was watching a movie about business. She was trying to get a sense of revenge from it.

As she was into the movie, the door swung open, and Nathan walked in.

"How come you're back?"

"Have you eaten yet?"

"I'm not hungry, though."

Nathan glanced at the screen, yanked her remote, shut the TV set, and said, "That thing doesn't feed you, you know?"

Sharon paused for a second and asked, "Well, did you have something?"

"Nope. Let's eat out somewhere."

Sharon looked at him stupefied, "Aren't you gonna run late for the afternoon?"

Nathan checked the time, and sure enough, it was only half an hour from the shift. He then smiled, "We're having a day off."

"A day off out of nowhere?

That's quite a nice company," she thought.

"Huh. Great, then. What are we eating?"

"You'll see."

"Are you sure about dining here? I'm all alone now."

Outside Ginder Manor, Sharon tugged on Nathan's sleeve. She felt that they had gotten to the wrong spot. They were but ordinary employees. There was no way they could afford the time and money required for a meal here.

Nathan froze for a second, looked back at her, and drew her in.

"Help yourself order anything you like."

"Do you own the place?"

Nathan felt somehow surprised. How did she know that?

He stared at Sharon in confusion.

Sharon then hurriedly explained, "I mean, this isn't something for people like us, you know. Do you know how expensive things are here?"

It seemed as if Nathan got what she was trying to say. He stopped looking confused, smiled at her, and nodded.

"It's just a meal. We can afford that much,"

he pushed the menu to Sharon with a serious air.

"Good. At least you're not stingy."

Sharon then picked up the menu, ordered some simple dishes with a smile, glanced at Nathan, and handed the menu back to the waiter.

Nathan tapped on the table and wondered whether she ordered a ton of food to revenge herself.

"It's among the cheapest stuff here. Chill. You're my everything now, after all,"

she said and took a sip of her juice. She said it almost in a whisper, but Nathan still got everything.

"I always thought someone like you would be way more lavish than this. You're quite good with your money, eh?"

That sounded off to Sharon. In her mind, Nathan was about the only one who would be there for her, even though their marriage mattered nothing to him.

"So I'd say you didn't order anything among the special here. I'll go check on the menu and get us something else."

As Sharon watched her unfamiliar husband go, she couldn't figure out what she felt about him. He did try to treat her well for sure.

"Are you alone, miss?"

A drunk mid-aged man showed up in her face. His golden chain dangled from his neck, and his huge rings clattered on each other as well as with the stained bottle he held.

Little did Sharon expect that such a drunkard would show up around the classy place as well.
