"The Star Wars system was designed to help train, guide, and empower our Jedi candidate in the new galaxy." Master M'tz entered his shuttle and entered Gar's room. He removed the room's vidscreen, and the screen shrank after pressing a few buttons. Now, the vidscreen was about the size of an iPad. He handed the device to Gar who saw it looked much like the screen for gaming. It reminded him of the layout from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. He navigated through easily.
"This device will record missions from your master. As you complete your assignments or participate in noteworthy events happened upon by you, it will rate, grade, and reward your efforts.
The system will give you credits, which you can use in the store to purchase anything from Kyber crystals to spaceships. It will also track your progress and experience. All information is relayed to your master. The store doesn't make immediate deliveries. Sometimes you might have to wait days or weeks depending on what you order. The system will notify you how long delivery will take," Master M'tz watched as Gar explored the device.
"It says I have 11,523 credits, an upon gift, and is waiting for your input," Looking up from the screen to Master M'tz, Gar waited for the man to explain.
"I'm sure you understand the credits are for the store, you've already received your gift. It's the training lightsaber. I will give my final grade and it will determine whether other gifts will get distributed."
"Are you going to finish grading me now?" Gar examined Master M'tz's face.
"No, we can do that tomorrow. A lot has happened. Take a rest, and let me know if there's anything I can help you with before I depart."
Looking at the vidscreen with the Star Wars System, Gar looked at the Jedi Master, "Perhaps you could offer some advice on how to spend the credits?"
"Ha, sure." Master M'tz looked pleased. "The thing to consider is that credits aren't easy to acquire. This means the value of every credit is much greater than what you would find in the galaxy. You have about 11k credits, but their actual value to you is ten times greater. You should be slow to spend, generally.
However, once I leave, you'll be by yourself. Some of the things you had easy access to won't be available to you anymore. The armory, ship, nerf steak, and lots of technology you've become used to using will no longer be available.
Before making a purchase, consider your strengths and weaknesses. You are gifted in creating tech, gadgets, and so forth. It might be better to invest in blueprints, material formulas, and so forth. You are gifted in technology, but not so much in medicine. Things like bacta tanks, medical droids, and medical equipment might be more beneficial to you. The only exception is an astromech. I feel like you need one, but they're too advanced for you to build on your own. Your car that you built with V6 in mind is droidless.
There are so many things that you should spend your money on, but the credits are limited. Do you need an astromech? Maybe you should modify your Rancor so it doesn't need a droid. It all depends on what you want to do."
"Great, but I don't know what this master of mine will do with me. There's no way for me to predict what I should buy," Gar's uneasiness was obvious.
"Use the Force, when faced with uncertainty it helps," Master M'tz was non-plussed.
"Okay. Thank you," Gar didn't seem less uneasy, but he was facing the uncertainty of the coming days.
"You need some sleep, we'll talk more in the morning." Master M'tz left Gar's room leaving him alone with his thoughts. Gar sat on his bed and looked at the system store. After a couple of hours, Gar put the vidscreen down and went to bed. Master M'tz was right, he was tired and as soon as he relaxed a little, he fell asleep.
The next morning, Gar loaded his Rancor speeder with his few belongings. Master M'tz gave him some medical equipment, nerf steaks, food hydrator, and other things that might be useful to the young man.
The rules weren't clear for how much Master M'tz could help him, but he wouldn't say no to free stuff. He grabbed some tools Master Mt'z said he didn't need. He was finally stopped when he tried to remove a bacta tank.
"Master M'tz, I hope we'll meet again. You have been a good mentor, Thank you," Gar bowed toward the old man. Master M'tz would leave to parts unknown in his Lambda-class shuttle. There was nothing left to say between the two.
"May the Force be with you," Master M'tz smiled as he patted Gar on the shoulder.
"Mat the Force be with you, Master."
The old man walked up the ramp, and Gar watched it close. Not long after, he watched as the shuttle rose into the air and disappeared in the distance. Gar got into his speeder and headed to the garage.
He pulled into the Rancor's dedicated garage, and when he entered the garage he was greeted by several droids. These binary-speaking droids alerted Gar that he received a delivery. Excited, he followed the droids to the center of the yard. There was a large container, big enough to fit his Mercury Cougar in with room to spare. The container was filled with items. Everything was packed tightly and the droids began unloading the items under Gar's supervision.
A box, around his size and one-half his size, was individually set to the side. When the container was unloaded, he turned to these two special crates. He opened the larger one first, taking a crowbar and pulling the front off. Inside was a deactivated 2-1B medical droid. He followed Master M'tz's advice. He needed an advanced droid like this to respond to any medical issues.
The second box contained a military-grade R3 astromech. It was the same series as V6, but this one was a tier higher in quality. Both droids were used and only cost him 4,311 credits combined. The wear and tear on the droids were obvious, but they were fully functional, were both memory wiped and passed the 147-point inspection getting an A1 rating.
The droids were activated, "Greetings, Master Finn, I am designated 2-1B-63. I am a fully equipped medical droid specializing in surgery, preventative healthcare, and medical research. I have only one species of anatomy, human, available. Although my memory is upgradeable, I can store medical specifics of up to 3,187,438 species. Do you require assistance?"
"No, from now on I will call you Surj, please acknowledge the new designation," Gar said.
"Understood, Master Finn, this unit is designated as Surj."
"Do you understand binary?" Gar asked.
"Yes, Master Finn, all droids speak binary."
"Then introduce me to the astromech," Gar ordered.
"Of course, sir. This astromech's designation is R3-M2. It is a military-grade astromech storing schematics for thousands of ships, a holoprojector, scanners, expandable arms, and many other features. Would you like a full explanation of its capabilities?" Surge asked.
"No, thank you. For now, you will be in charge of designing our medical clinic. I have purchased a large amount of equipment and supplies. Have the pit droids and the Da droids help bring things in. There are also the MX-05s, ET-74 construction droids, Mark II Construction droids, and four droid foremen," Gar pointed out the different types of droids to Surj.
"You have bought so many construction droids, master, do you plan to build a large base?" Surj asked.
"Well, Master Mt'z helped me acquire a couple from each category, and then he gave me their design blueprints. Once I could create the droids, I had the original droids build more droids using local Earth materials. The Earth droids aren't as sturdy or advanced as their factory versions, but it's enough for my needs. What I want to build; I want to use the material in the junkyard to create various things: speeders, droids, maybe a fighter or something, but that's down the road. For now, I need one base.
Every base needs a medical facility, so you are the doctor, Surj. I'll have R3 help as well for now. Did you hear that R3? Help with the construction. I want this base to appear as nothing more than a garage from the outside, but make it capable of deploying shields and using defensive weapons."
R3 tweedled, "Oh, he says he is happy to help, Master Finn." Surj translated the little droid's response.
"Good, I'll be in my room," Gar walked up the stairs to the living quarters and saw the interior was complete. "Nice work," he admired the high-tech look of the place, but it also looked comfortable with lush couches and chairs. The kitchen was white and filled with appliances he gathered from Master M'tz.
Reflecting on how Master M'tz kept throwing equipment at him, realized the old man was preparing him to live in this world, by himself. As he ran his hands over the equipment in the kitchen his mind returned to his time in the Lamda with Sol and Natalie. He already missed them.
One of the Pit droids carried a few items into the living quarters. "He did his best to take care of me," he said to no one.
"Now it's time to take a look and see his assessment of me," Gar exhaled air, brought out his vidscreen, and opened it to 'Reports.'
"Interesting."
