"What?!" Kai's non-existent eyes bulged. "I'm a God!"

"The skeleton just spoke!" one of the two thugs said.

"Kill it!" the ox-like boss yelled. "Kill it now!"

"All right, you can do this," Kai talked to himself. "This is your life now, you are magic."

One of the two thugs started approaching him from two sides. The scaly one was out of his sight for only a moment, but Kai was struck in the chest with a flail that he never even saw coming. He lost his footing and was almost sent flying.

"Boss, this guy is nothing. I can take care of him myself."

"Hey, that didn't hurt at all," Kai said as he got up with a creepy smile on his skull. "My turn, now."

Kai brought down his hand like a hammer on the thug's shoulder, the impact knocking him out almost immediately as he started making a wheezing sound on the ground.

"One down," Kai said. "You can just let the girl go and leave, you know."

"Why are you stopping?!" the woman yelled at him. "Kill them all!"

"Men! Gather here!" the ox-headed boss yelled as his men came back almost immediately. It seemed they hadn't ventured out too far.

"Ah, that really wasn't very smart of me," Kai awkwardly scratched his head.

"Isn't there any other way we can solve our problems?" Kai still wanted to talk. He had never even got into a fight before, but he had killed one man and knocked out another today. "What is happening with my life?"

"Attack!" sounded the command from the ox-headed boss as the thugs attacked him with a battle-cry.

Kai quickly appraised all the thugs as soon as they were 10 metres of him, seeing their stats to be 1s across the board. Kai took a boxer stance, ready to punch whoever came in his way. As none had seen anyone fight with a stance like that before, all the thugs had an odd expression on their faces, but they continued attacking.

Even the guy he knocked out seemed to be getting up and attacking him. Since he didn't want to kill unnecessarily, he held back as much as he could, which meant he barely did any damage while he was beaten down with multiple weapons constantly. He could feel his body breaking down slowly.

*Warning: When close to collapse, physical damage will hasten the process*

Kai was suddenly taken aback and watched the countdown.

*01:40:08*

*01:36:07*

*01:33:06*

"Kill them, or die!" City Lord's daughter yelled. She never would have thought she would ever ask help from a lowly undead, but this lowly undead seemed to be almost invincible. However, the thugs seemed to be tirelessly beating on him.

"Am I really going to die?" Kai thought to himself and questioned the value of his life in that split second. "How could I die?" He felt fear of death filling his empty chest and almost taking control of him. At that very moment, he was sure, he definitely didn't want to die, even if it meant killing others to live.

Kai quickly reached out and held the head of the scaly thug again, raised him into the air and threw him at one of the other thugs. His punches looked to be a thousand times stronger now.

He stopped an axe-like weapon chipping at him and dug it in the head of one of the thugs. Kai still felt fearful, but also justified in his slaughter. Two thugs were already dead, and one was injured. He pulled the axe out of the man's skull and figured using a weapon was still a lot better. He didn't want to be hit any longer if it was possible.

Kai swung the axe in an arc, almost slicing another thug in half. He felt the urge to vomit, but he couldn't. Each swing of his took down another thug and finally there were only two other thugs and their boss left, who was watching the events with bulging eyes. The two thugs escaped, immediately leaving their leader.

"What the hell are you?!" the ox-headed boss yelled and added, "One more step and I'm killing this woman!"

The boss of the thugs was visibly shaking, and taking advantage of that, the woman took out a small dagger from her frilly clothes and stabbed the ox-headed man in the eye and freed herself, rushing at the skeleton's side.

"You bitch!" the thug screamed and took out a crossbow and shot at her head. It seemed that if he was to be killed by an undead anyway, he'd at least take the woman out with himself.

Kai protected the woman with his bones with rapid movements almost rivalling the speed of the bolt.

*01:23:45*

"Damn it," Kai mumbled to himself. He finally felt rage, no longer fear and threw the axe at the thug with all his might, which crushed his head into a pulp. "Damn you all for making me do this."

Kai looked at his bloody hands and sat on the ground, contemplating.

"What are you doing? Escort me to the city already, and don some clothes over you, undead aren't allowed in the city," said the young woman. "The ones you let escape are still a danger to me."

Kai slowly raised his head and looked at the woman. She had a fair complexion and fox-like eyes. Her disposition made him feel even more pathetic. His biggest problem was that he didn't feel too bad, but he should. Was his spirit also corrupted by what had happened to his body? He would cry if he could.

"You-"

"Alexandra is my name," she said and turned her head away somewhat bashfully. "Let's go."

Kai looked at his time again.

*01:22:43*

He felt defeated all of a sudden. What could he even do in 1.5 hours?

"The voice in my head, how do I stabilize myself again?" he asked, not actually expecting an answer. It was a tad like if you searched a long sentence on the internet, you wouldn't get proper results.

There was nothing. "As expected," he thought and turned to the woman, not expecting anything from her, either.

"How do you stabilize an unstable undead?"

"What?" she asked.

"You wouldn't make the effort to, you'd just create a new one."

"Just answer me."

Alexandra thought for a moment before she spoke, finally saying, "You can stabilize undead using artefacts, but that'd just be wasting an artefact and takes months to accomplish."

Kai had little to no hope, but he suddenly saw the emerald in her necklace had a somewhat supernatural glow to it.

He suddenly jumped up and opened his Skills page again.

Skills

Hunger Level 1: Can eat inorganic materials and integrate them.

Kai used his ability "Appraise" on the necklace and confirmed it was an artefact, albeit there was not much information on where it came from. But it was definitely something powerful, he thought.

"Give me your necklace in return for saving you," Kai suddenly said in an energetic tone.

"I'll give you all the jewellery you want later."

"I need that necklace, now," Kai was adamant. He couldn't die now, not after turning into a literal monster just to live.

Alexandra felt very unfortunate. She was just saved from some thugs, only to be robbed by an undead. Due to Kai's lacking facial expressions, Alexandra suddenly felt very threatened. With tears dripping from her eye, she gave the necklace.

"Thank you," Kai said and picked the special stone out of there and started chewing it happily. He felt better as he ate the stone. Kai could see this nobility in front of him watch himself with a dropped jaw.

*Superior Jade was integrated*

*Skeleton Level 2 has been achieved*

*+2 stat points rewarded for the player's use*

Kai was exhilarated, so he finally checked the time he had left.

*23:59:59*

"I am not dying today!" Kai yelled into the air in celebration.
