A loud snap startled Keira away and searched the darkness, her eyes adjusting and the disorientation fading swiftly to her new reality. They were still in the forest beside the waterfall. Something moved in her peripheral vision, and she leapt to the side, but Keira wasn't quick enough.
Fire slices across the side of Keira's neck, the injury missing her carotid artery by an inch. She instantly sinks her jaws into the attacker's wrist and snaps it off, tossing it down the waterfall. The she-wolf screams into darkness, clutching at her hand.
'This bitch tried to end us,' Ember snarls, her eyes glimmering through, a silvery blue against the black fur. She lunged forward, and the she-wolf jumped back, gasping when her footing missed the end of the pale white rock Keira had been sleeping on. The girl falls backwards into the depths of the waterfall.
