The twins had no idea of the trouble that had happened back in the town, but even if they did, they would only scoff at the shamelessness of those people.
The distance from the town to Rusvil was quite far, it would take at least five days on horse to reach the city. This was also a great deterrent to the villagers who only had oxen at their disposal. The trip for them would likely take up to 20 days, few of which had the leisure to waste so much time there and back.
Isla and Sila spent those five days in relative comfort, the two of them knew how to camp and hunt, so the trip seemed to have very little impact on them. Only the excitement of finally reaching the city could allow them to show emotions fit for their age.
When the two woke up on the fifth day they knew they'd reach Rusvil before midday, so they quickly packed up and ate before setting off again.
Rusvil was a city on the border of the kingdom, a desolate area where very little grew, and seemed to be cut off from the normality of the rest of the kingdom. Few magic beasts, fewer magicians. The majority of the people in the adventurers guild of Rusvil were warriors, but even they were pitifully few. However that didn't seem to affect the excitement of the guild hall. People could be seen lazing about on the benches, some were perusing the tasks, some chatting amongst themselves. The warriors were dressed in bound leather, or played armour, their sheathed weapons acting to show off their status as warriors. The odd magician sprinkled in the hall were dressed in much more complicated clothing. They wore robes, and jewellery, wielding either staff or wand, the arrogance always apparent on them.
Isla and Sila knew that they weren't in any shape to go to the guild hall, although they didn't care about other people's opinions, but being looked down upon could lead to more trouble in the long run. Even if they didn't plan to stay in Rusvil for long, they would avoid as many unnecessary altercations as possible. So the first place they went was to a clothing store that many warriors frequented.
When choosing the clothes, Isla and Sila focused on lighter, more durable clothing. Speed and agility was their greatest advantage, even if they had more than enough strength, they felt that plate armour wasn't of much use to their fighting style. The two opted for more loose fitting trousers and a tunic, with some leather armour pieces and boots to protect their vital organs, and support their footwork.
After dressing and paying the two understood just how expensive it was to live in Rusvil. In Lotoll a sturdy set of clothes might cost up to 200 copper coins, but just these two sets had already set them back ten silver coins.
They knew that adventuring was a lucrative occupation, as great risk often comes with great reward, so the price wasn't too shocking to them.
When they reached the blacksmith, they looked for short swords or daggers. For the weapons they were willing to spend more, after all the weapons quality was the most important to the success or failure of their tasks.
After buying a set of strong and elegant daggers each, they were told by the blacksmith that they were forged using elven designs, however a weapon forged from the elves themselves would be imbued with certain effects that he couldn't replicate.
The two felt quite novel after hearing this. They had never realised the depth of what magic or physical power could lead to. They only had the vaguest understanding and that alone was enough for them to set foot on this journey. So all extra knowledge they learn just increases their desire to continue.
After buying all the equipment necessary, including bows and arrows, the two headed back towards the adventurers guild.
When they walked in, many people turned their head to look. The new supplies were quite easy to spot, but seeing a beautiful pair of twins instinctively made many of them disdainful.
"It seems some rich family's daughters have come to play adventurer" a man's gruff voice said contemptuously.
"How long until they run back home" another man echoed.
Laughter spread through the guild hall, but Isla and Sila ignored them, walking up to the reception desk.
The receptionist looked at them with pity, she had seen young people come in many times, and many would be preyed upon by the other adventurers, or would die taking on quests they were too inexperienced for. Seeing two beautiful girls standing in front of her made her want to give them a warning, but she knew it would be fruitless, so with a sigh she asked, "Will you be registering today?"
Isla replied calmly, "yes, we will".
The receptionist asked if they were literate, and after finding out they were, handed over the registration forms.
After the two of them had filled it out, the receptionist explained the ins and outs of the adventures guild, "When you join you will be given a metal tag representing your rank. Everyone starts off from the lowest bronze rank, then increases based on the quantity or quality of the tasks completed. Obviously a lower rank task will have less reward, but in turn they're safer and easier to complete. I recommend beginning with tasks that are around your current rank, and only moving up when you have the confidence".
The receptionist knew that this information would most likely go unheeded, but she still had to say it. In hopes that it could save at least one young life.
Isla and Sila didn't seem to understand the hint of the receptionist and quickly went through the procedure before being given the bronze tags which were magically inscribed with their names.
The two didn't dawdle and went over to look through the tasks on the board. The bronze rank tasks only included some trivial things that needed to be done in the city. Delivering goods from a certain part of the city to the other, or helping to find lost pets or items. Isla and Sila didn't plan to waste their time on these things, they wanted to hone their combat abilities.
