(Granolah's POV)
If there was one thing I was grateful for, the spaceship was quite large. It possessed an oval shape, like an egg, with our own rooms for privacy.
I was sitting in one of the chairs near a window, gazing at the distant stars and planets that remain unbothered by the Frieza Force. At least, I hope that was the case.
One thing that scared me was running across them, considering they're well known throughout most, if not the entire universe, by now. I wouldn't sugarcoat it, but I think I'd be on par with one of the fodder soldiers at my current power level.
The Ginyu Force was way beyond my capabilities, and I had no intention of pushing my luck. I wasn't like other fanfiction protagonists who enter the verse with a system or incredible luck.
I needed to remain humble and cautious. I had no system, only my knowledge of the world and the Cerealian's abilities. If I were sent here as a human, I doubt I would be as strong as I am now.
It is not that humans are weak; quite the contrary, they can keep up with other alien races. Their potential was there, but they were always on the back foot. Power creeping was commonplace, and I'm hoping to exploit that.
"Lost in thought?"
I moved my head, seeing Rok standing a few feet away.
"Just wondering about some stuff. You talk a lot about invaders. Can you fill me in on them?"
"Hmm, I know little, and what I hear is usually from the Cerealians that take commission work from different planets."
Commission work? I'm guessing that means freelancing. Well, given the abilities of a Cerealian, I wouldn't be surprised if assassinations were one of those jobs.
In my previous life, I learned that gentle people can be the most dangerous. Chalk it up to me just being paranoid, but you must be aware of certain things.
"That's more than enough."
Rok nodded and began to speak.
"First and foremost is the Saiyans. They're a rather notorious bunch, boasting incredible power and durability. From my knowledge, they're usually in groups."
"How large are the groups?" I already knew the answer, but I needed to play the part of the clueless student.
"The most? Four, but sometimes only a single Saiyan is enough to decimate an entire planet's population."
That's true if, according to Raditz, Goku was sent to Earth to kill off the entire population. However, I think it was stated that Raditz didn't know the truth about Goku's being sent there.
"I see, that's troubling," I said, which wasn't a lie. I was genuinely concerned. At my current position, I don't think I'm in any position to fight a low-class Saiyan.
Which sucks, but it's a pill I reluctantly swallowed. That's why I needed to reach Vampa under the guise of "training" and recruit Broly. If I can train with him, we both can reach new heights. And when I eventually awaken my potential, I'd be ready for anything.
Although training with Broly will be difficult, I don't know if he could always tap into Ikari or if that has been building up for years. I'd find my answer when I reach the planet.
"Yes, but don't worry, we'll be fine. You may not see it, but you've grown far stronger than we anticipated."
I nodded, smiling at the words. I don't know how to explain it, but I did feel stronger, but it felt a bit unnatural. It feels like I am growing within the fight whenever I'm training. I'm on the backpedal one minute, and I can keep up with Rok's movements the next.
"Thanks, teacher."
Rok nodded and walked to the front to sit on the main chair so he could control the ship. I'll be honest: I'm unfamiliar with spaceships and what the controls and whatnot are called.
"Hmm, this isn't good."
I could hear Rok say with concern. I raised an eyebrow, and Rok turned as if sensing my confusion.
"There's a distress signal coming from two nearby planets; one of them is our destination."
Wait…could it be?
"Planet Vega and Planet Vampa are sister planets, with Planet Vega being unaffected by whatever happened to Vampa."
That was interesting; Planet Vega is completely new to me; seriously, what is happening?
A part of me wanted to go to Vampa immediately, but Planet Vega would be better now. I needed to familiarize myself with the universe to wander through it eventually.
However, something struck us like a freight train before I could answer Rok. I quickly looked out the window and saw another ship.
"We've been hit hard, where's Nutri?"
"I'm right here! We're being flanked."
This is probably my greatest fear cause no one can hear you scream in space. I didn't know who was attacking us. There were too many variables to come to a concrete conclusion.
"This is risky, but I trust you two can fire the pulse cannons."
What the hell? I didn't know we had countermeasures here. Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I did; why would a spaceship have no defense?
"Leave it to us!" Nutri rushed to the back of the ship and clicked a few buttons.
I watched in amazement as a new panel emerged from the floor, showing a remote control and an assortment of buttons. I approached with my amazed expression on full display.
Nutri looked at me for a moment and sighed.
"You have no experience with this, right?"
"None at all. I'm quite useless here."
"No matter, watch and learn!"
Holy shit, she just did a dramatic hair flourish! I didn't think I would see one up close, but I'll admit, it's pretty cool. However, I quickly noticed the glint in her eyes as she began to tap a few buttons. I did my best to keep up, but this is beyond me.
This reminds me: I will need someone who can fly a ship, judging by how Nutri prefers to blow people to smithereens. Our cannons immediately shot down the attackers that surrounded us by a few numbers.
There was a stark difference between seeing this behind a screen or paper and experiencing it firsthand. It was an amazing spectacle.
"Great work! We'll have to make a pit stop on Planet Vega; one of our boosters was destroyed. It's a miracle I can still drive this properly."
Shit, I knew things wouldn't go smoothly. I was only interested in seeing what life forms existed on Planet Vega, but I didn't expect to be holed up there!
This feels like some cliche subplot that hinders the progress of the main plot. Well, whatever, I can't complain about it.
Still, as we managed to escape the attackers, my thoughts raced to figure out their identity. Were they bounty hunters or perhaps the Frieza Force? Or a new addition thanks to the butterfly effect?
I didn't know until we landed; it looked as if this was an orchestrated attack. I feel like I'm forgetting something, but I can't decide what.
…
"We've managed to secure an easy landing near a town. I'm picking up ki signatures in the distance."
Although Rok's words were probably meant to sound reassuring, I couldn't help but feel a nagging sense of dread in my stomach. After we descended, no one was tracking us.
That immediately made me suspicious.
It was as if they wanted us to come here, to act on some grand stage before an audience. My knowledge of Dragon Ball wouldn't help me here as I do not know about this planet.
And I'm pretty sure Vampa didn't have a sister planet, so this was probably a different alternate universe. Alternate universes are common in most series and have different outcomes compared to canon.
Knowing this, I needed to discard my prior knowledge and rebuild it with what I had learned so far.
"We should probably hide the ship. You'll never know if we run across someone who would steal or destroy it," I say with concern.
I didn't want to be stuck here, and I'm sure Rok and Nutri feel the same sentiment.
"Luckily…" Rok took out a remote and clicked a button, and before my eyes, the ship faded. "We have this."
Man, alien tech is cool.
"Do you guys feel a bit sluggish?"
I looked at Nutri, who seemed to be sweating. As she said that, I also felt the air shift, becoming heavier than I initially expected.
"The gravity here seems to be a problem. I'm fine, but it seems you two aren't," Rok rubbed his chin.
"We'll manage; this is a training trip, after all."
"Y-yeah, he's right. I'll…be in top shape in no time!"
I could feel Nutri's competitiveness, which compelled me to grin.
"Good. Let's go to the town and figure out the problem."
…
(??? POV)
I carefully studied these miserable plants from a distance, my foolishness written over my face as I didn't wait for the full moon to appear. Judging from this planet's cycles, it'll be another three days.
A part of me wanted to blow away the planet, but I suppressed that urge. This was my first solo mission, and I'd be damned to make a fool of myself.
I felt my stomach groan, making me snicker. One thing I've noticed that this planet lacked was meat. The lifeforms here were planet-based, and even the natural fauna were too.
I may have come here to destroy these creatures, but part of my job was to give a detailed description of their way of life, culture, and all that. Supposedly, this planet houses something of great significance.
And I was tasked to find it!
I was going destroy everyone first, but this way of doing things has merits.
I decided enough was enough and flew to one of the taverns. My tail was carefully wrapped around my waist, and my scouter read the power levels of the Vegarians.
To my surprise, they were in the hundreds, and I'm glad I didn't take any drastic measures. I would find myself in a deep struggle, but I'm here to show them that Saiyans were better.
The door opened as I approached the tavern door, and two resident species were thrown out with a hefty throw. I flinched out of instinct but quickly regained my composure.
"Next time you two idiots come here to fight, I'll ban you for good!"
I looked to see a burly, lime-green individual, his body mainly composed of vines. His lower body was snake-like, while his upper body looked like a grass-like suit that parted from the chest and split off near the shoulders, acting as large collars. His face was strangely humanoid, with two sets of yellow eyes.
I clicked my scouter, and within a moment, I began to sweat. This brute was at 460! I gulped, damnit. Normally, I wouldn't be this scared, but I needed the full moon to stand a chance.
And this guy was just some lowly barkeeper?
Mom was right: vegetables are important for growth.

AN: I hope you enjoyed this chapter. It's a bit longer than I thought. I'm sure you all know who the Saiyan is already. Hopefully, I captured his personality well. I may have gotten the Power Level stuff wrong, so I apologize. In the next chapter, I will drop them for the current arc.
I want to keep this arc short—about seven chapters. We'll see as we move forward.
