A hand on my arm woke me up. Thinking it was Edgar I raised my other arm and slapped him. He was not about to attack me in my sleep. The figure stumbled back and glared. I wouldn't be taken advantage of not like this. If we are going to fight it's going to be a fair fight.
"Grace it's me, Scott." The last bits of sleep left my body. Getting a better look I could tell it was actually him. He finally came here to save me.
"It's really you. I thought you would never find me."
"I will always find you." Jumping off the bed I run into his arms. I felt safe with them wrapped around me. Making sure I was completely okay we left the room and made a run for the front entrance. Thankfully it was unlocked and we left knowing that Edgar would have heard us and would track us down.
A deep laugh soon followed behind us. Edgar was on our tail. Scott shielded me with his body for protection and his growl merciful. The growl kinda frightened me but we had bigger problems. Trying to maintain distance from his brother we stopped knowing that he had already caught up to us.
Seconds go by and no one speaks or moves. "Did you really think I didn't know you were here? Why do you think it was so easy to come in and escape? I'm always one step ahead of you brother."
"Oh I knew but I didn't care brother. What you have done here is wrong and mother and father would roll in their graves."
"You're a traitor brother you could have been with me. We both could have her powers and rule together. You also have no right to talk about our parents after what you did."
"You turned your back on us." That set Edgar off because out of nowhere he pulls out a gun and shoots Scott. The bullet hit his side, and just like that Edgar was gone. Scott slowly hit the dirty ground. Everything went into slow motion like time was coming to a complete stop.
Bending down I put pressure on the wound but the blood kept coming. His eyes were beginning to lose color. Tears were streaming down my cheeks as I was still trying to apply pressure on the wound. I couldn't live without him he's my life.
He lifted his hand to wipe away the tears. "You need to get out of here Grace. Please before Edgar comes back for you."
"No I can stop the bleeding," I sobbed.
"It will be okay."
"No, it won't be okay. You're dying and there's nothing I can do." Scott's breathing hitched and softened. Softly putting his hand on top of mine he closed his eyes.
I brought all my focus on the wound. Pressing my hand deeper I closed my eyes and gave into my thoughts. It felt like a piece of me was leaving and going towards Scott. Opening my eyes I see a blue light source go into his chest.
He sucked in his breath and sat up. His wound healing like it was never there. The shock came across his face. I hugged him with tears of joy in my eyes. "You're alive Scott," I breathed.
"How?"
"I don't know, I concentrated on your wound and lost myself in my thoughts. A piece of me left and entered your chest."
"This wasn't supposed to happen till the Blue Moon." He took a moment to look me in the eyes. "We're connected in body and soul now." Deciding to discuss this later I help him up. We got in the car and I insisted on driving us to his place believing not all of his strength had returned. As I drove it seemed his strength had fully returned by now.
When we get to his house he goes to his room to change out of the bloody clothes. I wait in the living room looking around and notice there's nothing sentimental in sight. He comes back minutes later and we sit on the couch, cuddling one another. Happy to be alive and away from Edgar. My head rested upon his shoulder, hands together enjoying this moment of peace and silence.
Scott pushed my face up to look at him. His lips brushed mine softly. Passion went through me and I put my arms around him. The kiss didn't last but it made my lips tingle. We broke apart our ragged breathing all we heard. "Move in with me," he whispered.
"I will, when do you want it done?"
"Soon but will you stay tonight Grace"
"Yes." Edgar is gone for now. Scott and I were all that mattered. We go to his room and lay on the bed. With our arms around each other, we stay silent. An hour later Scott's asleep. Kissing his cheek I go to sleep with a smile.
We had about three weeks until the blue moon. Scott says Edgar won't show up till then. I hope that what Scott told me is true that Edgar won't come after me again. Does he believe that Scott's dead? He probably doesn't since they have a twin connection. That and he probably went back to the spot where he shot him.
What would Edgar do if he thought Scott was still alive? Most likely try to kill him again. I will die before I let him harm Scott. Getting dressed in the room Scott gave me when I moved in I went to look at him. I moved in two days ago and it didn't take long seeing as most of my belongings were clothes. Hearing a noise in the kitchen I assumed he was in there.
Walking into the kitchen and seeing him on the computer working. He looked stressed over the computer. When he saw he forced a smile to his lips. I, on the other hand, wasn't falling for it. "What's wrong Scott," I asked curiously.
"I'm trying to figure out how our powers merged. Especially since it was before the blue moon."
"Maybe that's a good thing. What if I can create my own path instead? My powers could be stronger than what we believed."
"Then that means the paths for Edgar and I have also changed." Before I could ask why the phone rang. He got up to answer it. The call was from William, we needed to head to work. Going to the car we get in and drive to the station. He was waiting outside with a smile on his face.
Reaching past Scott I hug William. "It's great to have you back."
"I'm glad to be back." He glanced up at Scott and glared. I didn't know why so I ignored it.
We walked inside and went to our offices. During the first hour of work, hardly anyone called. Toward lunch time I received a phone call from my phone. Picking it up slowly, I answered. "Hello." Deep breathing came from the other line.
Then I heard a voice speak a soft whisper. It was barely noticeable but still there. I knew Edgar was on the other line. "I see you got home safely," he hissed.
"Yeah and no thanks to you. Why can't you leave me be?"
"You'll see my way of things on the blue moon. That's when you'll come to me willingly. The time is almost upon us. Grace be prepared for a rude awakening when that day comes. You will be mine."
"In your dreams." Slamming the phone down the conversation was over. Panic rose in me over filling my very thoughts. He doesn't know about Scott or he would have told me. Getting out of my chair I head outside to calm down my nerves with fresh air.
Once outside I sit down and put my head between my knees. Taking deep breaths as well. Hating that Edgar can make me react irrationally and lose my composer. I heard the door open and close. Great, now someone thinks I'm crazy. Then suddenly arms were wrapped around me. Scott kissed my forehead. "What happened in there," he whispers.
"Edgar called me and I couldn't handle it. He still believes you're dead so what if he comes after me before the blue moon? Or maybe he's tricking me into believing that he thinks you're dead?"
"It's alright he won't come after you before the blue moon. Whether he believes I'm dead or not." I begin to calm down immediately. Scott stood and reached for my hand, telling me to take it. Standing as well we go back inside. For the remainder of my job I worked. Only trying to forget Edgar's call.
Finally it was time to pack up and leave. Saying bye to William we get in the car to head home. As we left Scott seemed scared. We arrived home and ate dinner during that time he still wouldn't talk. Every time I tried he walked away. Night had fallen and I went to my bedroom. Why wouldn't he talk to me? That fact was irritating.
Jumping out of bed I go to his room. He was in bed looking at the ceiling. He seemed shocked to see me. "Grace, what are you doing in here?"
"Why wouldn't you talk to me earlier today?"
"I was going over things in my head."
"Like what." I crawl into bed with him and lay my head on his chest. He wraps me up in his arms.
"How we can trap Edgar on the blue moon." My body tensed at his words. That was the end of the conversation. I didn't want Scott putting himself in danger. While I was thinking to myself I didn't know he became tired. Soon his breathing told me he had fallen asleep.
Sighing, I pull the cover over both of us, not wanting to go back to my room. Being near him helps my body sleep easier. Closing my eyes I go to sleep with me snuggled in his arms.
The next day was easier to handle. Waking up the alarm clock read seven in the morning and Scott was still asleep. Sliding out of bed I go downstairs, but not before getting dressed in my work clothes. He looked too peaceful to wake up so I let him be.
He's going to get a surprise when he wakes up though. Getting the ingredients I begin to make eggs and bacon for breakfast. The aroma of food filled the air and in minutes I heard footsteps coming. Scott's smirk when he saw what I was preparing. It's a good thing it doesn't take long to make bacon and eggs.
"You didn't have to do this Grace. I could have gotten us something on the way to work."
"I know but I wanted to and this is healthier than eating donuts. When do we have to be at the station?"
"Haha you're funny and in an hour. For the meantime we get to stay here." I turned off the stove and put the bacon and eggs on two plates. Walking over to Scott I put my arms around his waist. He leans down and kisses me. Pulling back I lead him toward the food. The way he stared at his plate made me laugh. He looked up for a second before looking back at his plate and eating everything in less than five minutes.
Once we both finished with breakfast I cleaned the dishes. In the meantime Scott went to take a shower and get dressed for work. Waiting by the car so we could hurry and get on the road. On the way to the police station I was nervous to see William again. Hiding my feelings so Scott wouldn't know.
William was outside again, waiting on us to arrive. He looked a bit off but I didn't say anything. After greeting us I go to my office. A while later the phone began to ring nonstop. Soon I was exhausted from the calls of people yelling and cussing at me. Several of the 911 calls were serious and Scott was dispatched. I hope that he returns safely.
Edgar didn't call and I was thankful. A knock came to my door and I was shocked to see William open the door. He sat down and just stared at me with no emotion in his eyes. I felt something odd in his presence. Cold, distant, like he's not in control of his body.
While I'm waiting for him to speak. I noticed he whispers to himself. "How are you feeling Grace? I know you've been stressed lately."
"Great thanks for asking. I'm glad to be back after a two day break. Cleared my head about my life."
"Even when Edgar kidnapped you, holding you captive for four days. Yeah I'm sure that was an excellent break. Let's not forget the two days after you came home you didn't come to work because I couldn't know what happened."
"How did you know about that?"
"I have my ways. See you later." He walked out with a smirk on his face. The urge to cry was great. Why would William be acting this way? Something or someone was doing this to him. I will tell Scott about this later when we're away from here. Edgar had to be behind William's sudden personality change. Scott wouldn't have told him if it meant putting him in harms way.
I do my best to forget what happened and go back to working. Less than an hour later Scott's back at the station. He comes by my office to talk before having to go back to his. The hours went by and it was finally time to leave. Making sure we didn't run into William we got in the car.
The ride home was quiet. I was too afraid to tell Scott what I know. Or at least what I thought I knew. Arriving home we got out and headed toward the door. He must have noticed me being tense. Putting his arm around me we head inside parting ways. I go to the kitchen while he watches t.v. in the living room. I decided to cook chicken and rice for dinner.
That gave me time to calm myself down. When the food was ready I went into the living room. He sensed my presence because he turned around getting off the couch. Kissing my cheek we go eat dinner. While we were eating, I decided to take a chance. A chance to tell him my feelings about William. "Scott," I said, grabbing his attention.
"Yes Grace, what is it? Are you okay you were tense earlier."
"Something is wrong with William. I feel Edgar is behind his behavior."
"Maybe he's just stressed out lately. With you being absent those four days took a toll on him. He was a complete wreck for the first two days. What he went through would stress anybody out and cause them to act differently."
"No something is wrong with him. He knew about the kidnapping with Edgar and I know for a fact that you didn't tell him. Edgar is controlling him and we need to do something about it."
"When the time comes we'll know."
"By then it will be too late." I didn't want to argue so I got up and left. He called my name but I kept walking. Reaching the comforts of my room the tears fell. Hurting that he doesn't believe what I'm saying. Scott didn't bother coming after me. It was a while before I took a shower and got changed. Yawning I crawl into bed and fall asleep.
A hand was around my waist when I woke. It was still dark outside like it was a little past midnight. Looking over my shoulder I see Scott sound asleep. Smiling, I get closer to him. The talk about William made me mad, but I still couldn't stay mad at Scott. He is my life, my everything. I gently go back to sleep in his arms.
This time when I woke up he was gone. Sunlight peeking into the window brightening the whole room. The smell of food filled my nose as I made my way out the bedroom. Walking into the kitchen I see eggs but also biscuits. He hasn't noticed me so I decided to speak to see what his reaction would be.
"Wow Scott you out did yourself. I never would have expected this from you." He jumped and looked at me with a grin. Going over there I hugged him around the waist. Picking me up he sits me on a chair.
I laugh as he goes and gets me a plate of food. Probably looking like a child the way I'm acting. It smelled quite delicious when he handed me the plate filled with goodies. "I know how to cook as well Grace."
"I'll be the judge of that."
"Okay tell me what you think of my breakfast." Smirking I put a fork full of eggs in my mouth. They tasted great, he really did know how to cook. The biscuits looked light and fluffy. Looking into his eyes I smiled.
Scott just laughed and kissed my forehead. Pulling away he made himself a plate and sat next to me. We made small talk while enjoying the breakfast he made. After eating we did the dishes and got ready for work. I waited by the car nervous to drive to the station. The whole way to the station I held Scott's hand. Seeing William out there still scared me.
With Scott squeezing my hand we passed by William without speaking to him. He glared at us but stayed in place. This time when I went into my office I locked the door. I didn't want William to be anywhere near me. For the first hour the phones rang constantly. Looking at the door nervously every twenty minutes.
What if William tries to come in by force? He couldn't do that, it would be alarming to others. A knock on the door had me jumping. I run to the door and open it slightly. Thank goodness it was only Scott. Opening it more he comes in. He knew I thought he was William.
He had to see the panic in my eyes. Taking my hand, he tugged me back to my chair. Before Scott tried to ask questions I calmed myself down.
"Did you think I was William?"
"Yes, he has me on edge lately. Sorry I can't help it. The way he acts towards the both of us is weird. I know you feel him glaring at you everytime he's near."
"It's fine we'll figure this out."
"I know." Taking my hand we leave the station for our lunch break. We go to a small sandwich shop. It was weird but not completely. As we ate neither of us mentioned William. Not wanting to ruin the day even worse.
Lunch was over quickly. Pulling into the parking lot we see William there to greet us again. I stood behind Scott as we went inside, he wasn't happy about that. The sound of a scowl gave me shivers. After Scott walked me to my office I immediately locked the door. Only then was I able to relax.
Thankfully my job was nearly over for the day. Clocking out a few hours later I felt relieved. William had left saying he needed to take care of family matters. So now it was just Scott and me along with a few other workers. I couldn't wait to leave and forget this day ever happened.
Scott enters my office work bag in hand. "Are you ready to go Grace?"
"Yeah I am thank you."
"Okay come on." As we headed toward the car the voices in my head returned. I came to an abrupt stop and listened.
One voice told me to watch my back. The other two whispered never be out alone. Shaking my head I ran past Scott to the car. My breathing is heavy from the run and from panicking. This couldn't be happening again. It's been a while since I've had the voices speak to me. That means I'm right about William being in Edgar's complete control.
Just as I was about to get in the car, Scott took my hand. His breathing was also heavy from the run. Feeling my control slipping away I yanked my hand away. I Ignored the pain in his eyes and got in. Deep down I wanted to cry and apologize for my current behavior.
He slowly gets in beside me and drives us home. The drive home was killing me, I knew I hurt him. Making it home he stops the car and we both get out going inside the house. On the way to my room he tugged on my hand. Tears were already threatening to come. We go to his room to talk.
"You can't keep shutting me out Grace. This includes me too. It's hard seeing you like this while knowing I can't do anything." His voice was full of hurt and pain.
"I know that but it scares me and I don't want you hurt."
"The voices you hear, well I can hear them too." This surprised me. No one else could hear them.
"How is that possible? I thought none of my gifts could fully emerge until the Blue Moon. If you can hear them does that mean Edgar can too? Oh no he can't" I began to hyperventilate. Scott pulled me into a hug, my breathing slowing down.
"It started to happen after you saved my life at first I thought I was going mentally insane, but then I listened. Whatever they tell you they also tell me. I know you're scared of what they say, but you need to understand their warnings are to keep you safe. As for Edgar, if he heard them, he would have tried something by now."
"That makes sense." A silence came between us and I hated it. Kissing my cheek Scott goes into the living room. I stand there for a few minutes before making my way to the kitchen.
For dinner I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I called him in while setting up the table. Looking like he wanted to devour the meatloaf I laughed. He tried to hide his embarrassment by sitting down and helping himself to some food. Throughout the meal I thought of Edgar. If they are twins, wouldn't they have the same powers? Scott could be just like Edgar and that terrifies me.
No he can't be. I need to stop thinking that. We finished eating and cleaned the dishes. Scott then disappeared into his room for the remainder of the night. Once taking a shower and getting dressed I go see him. His light was off but I still went in. He leaned forward to look at me in the dark.
I knew I had to apologize for earlier. "I'm sorry about earlier today. I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings."
"Why don't you let people in Grace?"
"Because I don't want people hurt that are close to me. My parents knew about my powers and tried to help me. And for that they paid the price. Thanks to me they died and will never see the light of day again."
"I'm sorry about what happened to your parents. I'll always be here to protect you." I went to his bed and crawled in. He pulls me close and sighs. At least we understand each other better now.
Scott's breathing slows a bit so I know he's asleep. Snuggling closer I fell asleep as well.
