Chapter 4

Waking up I realized I'm laying on top of Scott. Blush comes to my cheeks. He chuckled and kissed me. I pulled away and got up completely embarrassed.

Going back to my room I changed clothes. Scott was already downstairs drinking coffee. After making myself a cup we head to work. William didn't greet us this time. I didn't even see him inside the building.

For that I am thankful. Kissing Scott I left to my office. As usual I locked the door to keep William from coming in. The voices in my head know something bad is going to happen. They won't even tell me what it is.

The day was really calm at work. I didn't get a lot of phone calls. That was until my cell phone rang. My mind knew it was Edgar calling me. Yet I still answered it.

"Hello," I whispered.

"Long time no see Grace. How do you like William? He definitely new and improved if you ask me."

"Change him back Edgar. It's me you want leave him be."

"Oh I'm just getting started," he growled. "Wait until the blue moon, you'll come to me."

I ended the call and slammed my phone down. He wasn't going to stop till I was on his side. Tears were forming in my eyes but I blinked them away.

Scott walked in and saw my distress. Hurrying over to me he tugged me into a hug. "What happened Grace?" His arms wrapped around my waist gave me comfort.

"Edgar called me again about the blue moon. What if something goes wrong?"

"Hey he won't hurt you again. I'll make sure you're safe." My grip was tight on Scott's shirt. Prying my hands away I sit back down. He stayed a few minutes before going back to work. I get a grip before getting back to work.

Day turned to night and it was time to clock out. As I was leaving with Scott, William took my arm. His eyes were pure red with rage. Eyes no longer holding sanity. One look from Scott and I began to calm down. Freaking out would only make the situation worse.

Feeling a knife poke me I froze. Still keeping my eyes on Scott's. Yanking my hair William pulled me outside onto the street. Scott had his gun out ready to fire.

"William you don't want to hurt Grace."

"Of course not but she must be brought to Edgar," snarled William. His hands began to shake with fear.

Taking that as a chance to get free I stomp on his foot. Running straight to Scott's arms. William became furious and went on a rampage. He came forward and Scott shot him in the shoulder.

That didn't faze him; he kept coming. Finally Scott decided to deliver the death blow. One shot to William's chest made him go down. He didn't make a move to get up.

Running to William tears silently falling. Blood was everywhere as I reached his side. I grabbed his hand and looked into his green eyes. "William it's Grace can you hear me?" The color of his eyes fading.

"Grace, Grace is that you? I'm so sorry I did this. I don't know what came over me."

"It's okay it wasn't your fault," I sobbed.

His breathing stopped for a second. I knew he was almost gone and there was no saving him." I'm not going to make it but I need you to know that I love you. It's like you were my own daughter"

William's pulse was hard to hear now. He could barely keep His eyes open. At this point I was shaking violently. "Love… You… Too…"

His eyes closed one last time and he was gone. My head fell to his chest. Turning around I see that Scott has tears in his eyes.

The sound of an ambulance not far away. Soon the paramedics came to take his body away. That's when I moved towards Scott. He always acted tough but not this time. The death of William has left him hurt.

We walked to the car. The ride home sad and silent. Edgar took away William's life because he had no choice. Anger filled me till I could see it in my gaze.

Edgar is taking everyone from me. The car halted to a stop. I ran inside, straight to the living room couch. Scott was hot on my heels. He could see that I was angry. Pulling me into his arms I pushed him away. I didn't need comfort, I wanted revenge. He knew that too.

"Grace you need to calm down. Right now there's nothing you can do about it."

"I can't wait for this to end. Coming here was a mistake. William wouldn't be dead if I didn't come here."

"No it wasn't," Scott argued. Hot tears were coming down my face again. I was sick of crying. This time I let Scott hold me as I cried. I could feel his tears fall onto my shirt. After sitting there for what felt like forever. We both went to our bedroom for the rest of the night.

Yelling woke me up in the middle of the night. Scurrying to Scott's room I see that he's stuck in a nightmare. I get by the bed and grab his arms. Once I touched him the yelling stopped.

He opened his eyelids very slowly. I could see his hurt blue eyes. "Grace," he whispered.

"It's me. I'm here and not leaving."

Scott pulled me in the bed and wrapped his hands around my waist. His breathing was slower now. We were destined to be together. That was my last thought before we both fell into a deep slumber.

I woke up and realized Scott was gone. Going downstairs he was in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee. Seeing me he smiled and beckoned me forward.

Today we would go to work then plan William's funeral with his family. It's still hard to believe that he's gone. Finishing our cups of coffee we head to the station. Scott kisses me on the cheek before leaving for his office.

Going to my office I got glances from the workers. I ignore them and concentrate on my work. Before lunch there were calls for 911. Scott had to go on one of the calls.

It's nearly lunch break and he still isn't back yet. An hour later he came back and my worry left. He went to his office to get ready for lunch.

A few minutes later I heard yelling. Walking into his office I realize he's talking to Edgar. I could tell by his expression. It looked like he wanted to commit murder. Whatever Edgar told him he wasn't very happy.

Lightly knocking on the door I got Scott's attention. He hurried to hang up on Edgar. "How much did you hear Grace," he demanded.

"I just heard you yelling at Edgar. Don't let him get to you."

"Now is not the time for this." Gripping my hand, he dragged me out of his office. Taking me out to the car he put me in the passenger seat. I knew then he was angry.

He drove us to a place I have never heard of. It was called the shack and very small. There we ate lunch while not speaking to each other. The silence was killing me but I didn't dare try and break it. His quietness is better than his anger.

Not knowing what's wrong with him makes me frustrated. Crying was not an option he would only wonder why. Lunch break came to an end. Without looking at him I get up and go to the car.

We go to our offices in silence. Tears fell down my face then. Edgar was going to be the end of us I thought. My voices started coming back. I haven't heard from them in a while. Wiping the tears away I get back to work.

Scott waited for me in the car when work was over. We still didn't talk to each other. At the funeral home we talked to the family. William would wear a black suit and be buried by noon tomorrow.

Since everything was now ready we headed home. I still didn't say a word to him and he seemed frustrated. Before I could get out the car Scott stopped me.

"What's the matter Grace?"

"You should know that you're the one that got mad at me."

"I'm sorry it's just I can't stand Edgar." That's when it all made sense. He was afraid I would leave him for Edgar on the blue moon.

Yanking myself free I go inside. How could he even think that? That I would turn on him and leave. Anger, sadness, and frustration battle to the top of my emotions. The voices came back stronger.

"You don't need him to keep you safe," they said. I shook my head trying to get them out.

Scott came near me but all I could see was Edgar. Screaming I ran outside into the woods behind the house. The sun is setting and darkness covers the sky. Hearing him call for me I ran even faster.

Not seeing a rock I tripped and fell, nearly slipping into a ditch. A scream ripped from my throat and echoed in the woods. Suddenly a hand grabbed mine and pulled me up. In my mind I was still seeing Edgar so I tried to run.

His grip tightened so I stopped. "Grace it's me, stop trying to run," he whispered softly. I glanced up and saw Scott.

"Okay I'll stop." He carried me back to his big white house. Once he put me down in the living room we sat on the couch.

My eyes looked everywhere but not to his blue eyes. Careful not to scare me he slowly put his hands on the sides of my face. When my eyes met with his, his breath caught. I am always mesmerized by his eyes. Lowering his head his lips touched mine. Our kiss was like the blazing sun hot.

My hands went to his chest taking hold of his shirt. Feeling his fingers go into my hair made me shiver. Minutes later we broke apart. Our breathing became rapid and shallows. Pulling back my hand goes to his.

"Why do you think I'll leave you for Edgar?"

"We don't know your path. You could end up with," he said sadly.

"The path I go down will lead me to you. No matter what happens I'll go to you," I argued.

For the rest of the night we talked our feelings out. It felt like I got to meet a different side of Scott. Understanding each other better would help us defeat Edgar.

The morning we were awake was dreadful. Today was the day we buried William. He was a good boss and a great friend. Besides us he has his wife and son showing up.

I took a quick shower and put on my funeral clothes. Scott was already done and waiting in the kitchen. This was going to be tough on him. Together we got in the car and went to the funeral home.

William's family was already here sitting in the front. His wife's face was stained with tears. Meanwhile William's son didn't speak or cry. Just stayed there silently looking at his mother.

Scott and I sat behind them. When everyone was seated the priest came to say a prayer. The service was sad and I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. One by one we all get up to say bye to William.

The graveside service had to be the worst to come. Scott and a few officers put a red rose on the casket. As they walked away the casket was lowered into the ground.

His wife and son were the first to leave. I turned around but Scott still looked at the grave. A haunted look wondered in his gaze. He fell to the ground, tears streaming down his face.

I go to him, pulling him into a tight embrace. This was the broken side of Scott I've never seen before. Minutes later he got a hold on himself and moved off the ground. To him he didn't lose a boss, he lost a brother.

Keeping me in his arms we walked to our. Gazing at the sky as we drove away. Arriving home I made lunch while he stayed in the living room quiet. When the food was done I called him in. After eating I do the dishes and go to my room.

Scott still wasn't ready to talk to me. Knowing what he's going through it's not good to keep it in. The voices in my head told me to leave him alone. He needed someone in his life and that was me. Taking a quick shower I go back to the living room. He was staring at a blank television screen.

Sitting next to him on the couch I watch his eyes. They're full of darkness and cold like Edgar's. I got closer but he got up and walked away.

For the remainder of the day he stayed in his room. Even when dinner was ready he stayed away. I tried not to let Scott's coldness hurt me but it did.

I go to my room and try to sleep. It took hours before I went to sleep from exhaustion. Soon I had a nightmare and woke up screaming. Scott turned into Edgar attacking me. Could it really be true? Is it possible that Scott could turn on me?

No! No! I have to stop thinking about that. He would never hurt me intentionally. Seconds later he came running into the room. His eyes are full of worry.

"Grace are you okay? I heard you scream from my room." He sounded deeply concerned.

"I'm fine, just a bad dream about Edgar." His whole body stiffens at my words. Like they triggered a memory.

"Come with me." I get out of bed and follow him to his room. We got into bed and wrapped our arms around each other. Knowing he was here with me I won't have any more nightmares.

The nightmare gave me a plan on how to defeat Edgar on the blue moon. Scott will never know this plan. Not until it's too late for him to stop it. His slow breathing told me he was asleep. My eyes began to close and soon I was back asleep in the arms of the guy I love.

Waking up I was careful not to wake Scott. Leaving his room I go to mine. There I change my clothes and go downstairs to fix breakfast.

When I was done making the eggs I heard a noise. It didn't come from upstairs either. Turning the stove off I go see what or who it was. The voice senses danger.

Edgar was near the front door. I was about to scream when his hand came over my mouth. My breathing became rapid from fear.

"I just want to talk to Grace," Edgar snarled.

He gently pulled his hand away. "About what," I whispered so I wouldn't wake Scott.

Taking my hand in his we go take a seat. He honestly looked scared for me. "It's Scott

There's something you don't know about him." When he said that I froze. What was wrong with Scott?

I shook my head in disbelief. No way was Scott hiding something from me. Not if it could harm me in any way. "What's with him Edgar?"

"His inner monster will come out on the blue moon. William used to help him but now that he's gone." He stopped talking and turned away. Probably waiting for me to understand the situation.

"You're lying to me. Scott won't be like that he has me." My voices knew Edgar was telling the truth but heart didn't want to believe it yet.

"Don't say I didn't warn you Grace." With that he left as quietly as he came. Then I heard footsteps from the stairs. I sighed and looked up. Scott was finally awake.

Not saying a word I go back to cooking breakfast. As the blue moon neared the voices got louder. Scott got closer and kissed my cheek before sitting at the table.

Breakfast was done and I sat down with him. As he ate I kept my eyes on him. What Edgar said got me thinking about the blue moon. Suddenly I felt sick to my stomach.

Next thing I knew I was running to the bathroom. Vomiting into the toilet, I began to feel weak. Scott ran in putting a wet rag on my head. The nausea left my body so I felt better. Scott didn't believe that for a second.

"Are you okay Grace? Maybe it's best for you not to go to work today."

"I'm okay just didn't feel good at the moment."

"Let's get you up." We get up and go to our separate rooms. Changing into work clothes we meet each other in the car.

Being at the police station wasn't right anymore. It felt different without William here. Scott's eyes got cold and scary as we reached the building. Maybe what Edgar said was true after all. No it couldn't be.

Saying bye to Scott I go to my office. It was only because of William's death. Yeah, that's why he's acting this way I told myself. If I wanted answers I would have to go to Edgar. Even thinking his name gave me the creeps.

Shutting the door I took out my phone and called him. He answered almost immediately. His voice is deep and frightening. "Hello Grace."

"I want to know about Scott's inner monster."

"Well. Well, Look who decided to trust me," he chuckled. "Meet me in the park in two days. I'll have the information then."

Without another word I hung up on Edgar. This was a bad idea but I couldn't help it. Scott wouldn't tell me so his brother was my only option.

Only one voice came back and said, " it's dangerous to trust him."

"Well I don't have a choice," I said grouchy.

"Everyone has a choice. Make the right choice Grace." Then the voice disappeared leaving me to my own thoughts.

I stayed in my office till time to leave. Not waiting on Scott I get in the car. Minutes went by before he came to the car. Once he was in we left to go home.

After leaving the police station his eyes turned warm. I guess they are only cold when we're at the station. We don't speak, just get out and go inside. While I'm making dinner he goes upstairs. Dinner was finished cooking so I called for him.

He didn't answer even though I said his name three times. Finally I decided to get him. I heard a deep voice coming from his room. Opening the door slightly I peeked in just far enough to where I could hear. Seeing him talk to himself terrified me.

I leaned forward to get a better look. It was completely dark in his room. Edgar was right, something is wrong with Scott.

"She's getting in the way," said the deep voice.

"You can't have her, she's mine. I won't let you take her from me."

"You forgot I'm your other half," the voice growled. Knocking on the door Scott went silent.

He slowly walked towards me. The look in his eyes made me want to run for the hills. Telling him the food was ready I went back to the kitchen. Scott is right behind me the whole way. Dinner was awkward and I couldn't wait for it to be over. He said he would do the dishes tonight so I went to my room.

I didn't remember falling asleep. Not until a loud noise coming from outside my room woke me. Opening the door I see Scott standing in the hallway. His eyes were black instead of blue.

Once he saw me he glared. Coming at me with amazing speed and took my arm. Throwing me up against the wall. A bruise would be on my arm by morning.

"Scott it's me Grace. You can't let the beast control you. Think of all the memories we have together and fight."

The beast laughed, it was low and grouchy. "Scott's not here anymore."

"Yes he is and he can beat you." One of Scott's hands went around my throat. He was going to kill me.

"Any last words."

"Yes, I love you Scott." The beast let go of me. It screamed falling to the floor.

Seconds later Scott stood up. He wasn't the beast anymore, only himself. Running I jumped into his arms. I'm so happy to have him back.

"What happened Grace?"

"Nothing let's go to bed." He doesn't remember what happened two seconds ago. That's weird you think he would know what the beast did.

Quietly I led him towards my bed. We both got in holding one another. Minutes went by before we fell asleep.
