Amri felt a rush of fear as Hong came over the comm.
"On-alert! Bandits-high at our one-ten!" he shouted into the mic, taking the plane into evasive maneuvers as light began to rain down on their craft.
Amri had a moment to remember that what she saw were only tracer rounds, before clattering ticking sounds sounded from seemingly all around her.
She heard the buzz of a fighter grow distant as the rear gunner began to open fire, chasing after the enemy fighter ineffectually.
Latching onto Hong's mind gave Amri more of a picture of what was happening than the rapid set of reports and shouts that came over the comm at the same time.
Hong knew that the enemy fighters were the same flights they'd passed on the way in. A total of eight enemies were on them, each plane bearing an insignia of a skull over twin crosses on a rondel of red and blue.
