Amri followed the whispers.
The first and strongest led her far away, though it felt more like depth than distance. The strand of light she followed was the thickest connection she could see amidst the black world around her.
She followed and followed until she found a glowing sphere of water, its protean form shifting along, sometimes human, sometimes not. It felt familiar to her, and all over its surface were ripples like invisible stones were constantly cast into it.
Its whispers were constant, Move... Aim for the center... Dodge... Keep a look out... Make it back to her... Fire... Take cover... Make it back to her!
The voice behind the whispers felt familiar to Amri, and she stayed with it for a time, watching it shift and flow amidst the darkness. Occasionally, she saw streaks of light elsewhere.
