Chapter 12: Another reason

Wu Liang was completely defeated. 'How did it end up like this?', he thought.

Before the fight started, he was apprehensive about the change in the way they were standing, but he was too eager to pay them back for the humiliation they caused him in the last fight. After some consideration, he made the judgment that it would not matter. As long as he could cover his blind spot from the two spearmen, he could win the fight.

Following that logic, he rushed toward the space between Wu Ma and his teammate from the right.

'If I squeeze my way between them, I will be flanking them and at the same time my back will be guarded by the cage', Wu Liang thought.

But his plans fall through, he didn't expect Wu Ma to give up on hiding behind his big shield, only to bash him with it instead.

after the fight, Wu Liang was kneeling on the ground deep in thought:' In the first fight, all Wu Ma could do is hide behind his shield like a turtle. He couldn't even look me in the eyes, but this time he attacked me....'

Wu Liang then looked toward Rudolf:' it's because of him! He did all this. He is a monster!

' He transformed those children from trash to fighters capable of bringing me down'.

Wu Liang did not receive any strong hits, so he stood up with ease and walked slowly toward Rudolf. Without any hesitation, he knelt on the ground and said:" Please accept me as a new student in your academy!!"

Rudolf looked at him seriously with his deep green eyes, then a welcoming smile broke on his face.

When Wu Liang saw this, he became hopeful:' This wizard sure is too kind! It doesn't matter. It benefits me, I can use this opportunity. I was like a frog in a well. I thought becoming an elder of the clan was a great thing. How laughable? This guy opened my eyes. Just looking at him swaggering inside the clan like he owns the place, doing as he pleased, makes me hate how stupid I was. He is truly a monster. This is the chance of a lifetime. I must make use of him to grow stronger!'

Seeing how his son was kneeling before Rudolf, Wu Ye felt mixed emotions. He could understand Wu Liang's decision. After all, even himself, he couldn't help but marvel about Rudolf's ability to coach those children.

That being said, he couldn't consent to Wu Liang's leaving the clan. The clan head was already on his back about using the soul binding contract on Yao Feng. If his son was to leave the clan on top of that, Wu Ye would've found himself in big trouble.

"Stop! I will not permit this. I will kill you with my hands before seeing you betray the clan. How could you do that? The clan head even promised to make you an elder when your cultivation reaches the earth-shattering stage." Wu Ye said anxiously.

The clan head also was an old fox and would have not let the occasion fly by. A wrathful expression appeared on his face and he said:" He already showed the intention to betray the clan. We cannot trust him anymore. You can do whatever you want with him. He is no longer part of the Wu clan.

Just like that, Wu Dianming backed Wu Ye into a corner. Wu Ye has to choose between killing his son to prove his loyalty to the clan or to let his son leave and then would've faced the accusation of treason and fathering a traitor. Either way, his reputation would've been ruined.

Everybody felt the tension. Rudolf watched the discussion with indifference. In contrast, Yao Feng couldn't be happier with the happening but he didn't let show on his face.

Wu Ye couldn't wait for long and was the first to break the awkward silence:" Sir Rudolf, first you said that you are just passing by our region, then you wanted to take Yao Feng. Next we organized a test of magic talent and you selected twelve recruits for your academy and Now you want to take away one of the clan's promising seeds. Don't you think you went too far! What do you really want?"

It was in desperation that Wu Ye decided to deflect the tension from him to Rudolf. But what he said resonated with the elders and the clan head. Since the start, it seemed like Rudolf didn't put their clan in his eyes.

Rudolf just shook his head with a smile and said:" According to your clan head, Wu Liang is no longer part of the Wu clan, so technically I'm not stealing your clan's promising seed."

Then he turned toward Wu Liang and said:" Then again, I don't remember saying that I will take him with me in the first place."

Wu Liang felt like a bucket of cold water poured on him. Then fear gripped his heart. In a single second, he went from heaven to hell. He went from dreaming of following Rudolf and becoming a powerful warrior to facing death for betraying the clan. He didn't know what to do so he stumbled back and sat on his butt while looking to Rudolf with disbelief.

Rudolf smiled and said:" Now, young friend Wu Liang weren't you going to apologize to my new recruits?"

Wu Liang felt despair. Rudolf's words plunged him deeper into hell. Then his eyes gleamed with sharpness and he said:" Sir Rudolf, You said you came here to look for a recruit that will become mages and ended up with fighter knights. Why don't you let me test my affinities maybe I could be a mage? After all the clan chief won't let you take away that slave Yao Feng."

Rudolf chuckled and said:" Interesting! You are already around seventeen years old and the Qi of heaven and earth has been circulating through your body modifying it. Even if you have a great affinity with the elements it would be very hard for you to manipulate Mana. So you have no bargaining chip. Now! start apologizing to our recruits."

Wu Ye couldn't bear watching his son played like that so he said:" You are toying with us. Do you think you can do us you pleased? You said you wanted to recruit a mage so why wouldn't you test him. Or are you already satisfied with Yao Feng and decided to take him anyway!"

Wu Dianming knew that Wu Ye was trying to create conflict between him and Rudolf. But he couldn't care less about Yao Feng. He only needed Yao Feng to destroy Wu Ye's growing reputation. Wu Liang already did that so Wu Dianming said to Wu Ye:" there is no need for you to worry about that. Sir Rudolf can take Yao Feng and the other recruits and leave at any moment."

Wu Ye was taken aback, he wanted to say that Yao Feng has a deep hatred toward the clan, but was stopped by Wu Dianming's angry glare.

At that point, Rudolf smiled and said:" There is no hurry. In reality, like Wu Ye said, I came to the Wu clan for another reason."
