Chapter 13: Who is stronger? A mage or a Knight?

Seeing Rudolf manipulating Wu Liang like an ant in the palm of his hand, The Wu clan head had a bad premonition. He couldn't help but rethink the happening of the day from the time he first met Rudolf outside of the clan.

While the clan head could maintain his calm and reevaluate the situation, Wu Ye couldn't bear watching his son played like that. So he said:" You are toying with us. Do you think you can do us you pleased? You said you wanted to recruit a mage so why wouldn't you test him. Or are you already satisfied with Yao Feng and decided to take him anyway!"

Wu Dianming knew that Wu Ye was trying to create conflict between him and Rudolf. But he couldn't care less about Yao Feng anymore. He was only thinking about how to deal with Rudolf. If he wasn't apprehensive toward his background, he would've already thrown him out of the clan. So he looked at Wu Ye and said:" there is no need for you to worry about that. Sir Rudolf can take Yao Feng and the other recruits and leave at any moment."

Wu Ye was taken aback, he wanted to say that Yao Feng has a deep hatred toward the clan, but was stopped by Wu Dianming's angry glare.

At that point, Rudolf smiled and said:" There is no hurry. In reality, like Wu Ye said, I came to the Wu clan for another reason."

The clan head's face darkened. Despite feeling anger surging in his head, Wu Dianming couldn't say he was surprised by what Rudolf said.

" Then, why did you come here for?", the clan head said.

Rudolf looked at him, smiled leisurely and said:" There is no hurry. Let me first finish this little business with young friend Wu Liang"

The clan head was about to blow his top. He was disregarded in front of all the elders of his clan.

Before Wu Dianming could speak, Rudolf throw a red goatskin parchment toward him and said:" Clan head can read this while Ideal with this naughty child".

Wu Ye also wanted to do something about the wizard domineering attitude, but he saw the dazed expression on the clan head face. So he moved to also read the red parchment.

In the meantime, Rudolf turned toward Wu Liang and said:" Didn't you hear me? I told you to apologize to our recruits for treating them like trash.

"If you don't do it, I'll just tell them to beat you to death. Then you literally won't be able to look down on them, instead, they will be looking down on your dead body." Rudolf posed for a moment to let his word sink in Wu Liang's mind, then he said sternly:" Which one you chose, You bow your head and live or to refuse to give up your arrogance and die beating up like a rabid dog?"

Ever since meeting Rudolf for the first time, Yao Feng couldn't find a solid logic behind the middle-aged man's actions. He couldn't believe that someone would've helped him for no reason. He also couldn't understant why Rudolf kept antagonizing Wu Ye and the Wu clan head.

Not comprehending Rudolf's actions, doesn't mean he didn't approve of them. In fact, Yao Feng was enjoying seeing all the occurrences that happened that day. And he felt even better when he saw Wu Liang bowing in apology to Wu Ma and company. He felt SCHADENFREUDE for the first time in his life. He wanted to laugh out loud at Wu Liang's misfortune but in the end, he chose to control his joy and show only indifference in his face.

On the other side, Wu Liang felt his heart bleeding every time he bowed to one of the children. Anger, humiliation, and helplessness were mixing up inside him. That feeling continued to build up inside his heart until he didn't feel anger anymore. The only feeling he could feel was determination. At that instant, Wu Liang vowed to grow stronger so he never ever has to bow to anyone. He also was determined to one day make them all pay, especially Rudolf.

As soon as Wu Liang finished his apologies, Rudolf said:" Good! Now that you apologized to them you can join them as a fellow student in our academy."

Wu Liang was shocked, he did not expect that he would be admitted to the academy after all. He felt relieved for just a second, then his determination reignited again. He took a deep breath and said:" I thank Sir Rudolf for your benevolence. However, I have a question for you."

Rudolf nodded and said:" go ahead, what do you want to know?"

" Who is stronger? A mage or a Knight?" asked Wu Liang

Rudolf looked at him with an understanding smile and said:" There is no comparison between them. Knight are warriors that excel at close courter combat in contrast mages prefer to fight from long distance. In the academy, you will learn all this. Besides, in a fight, it always comes down to each fighter's individual skill and strength. When the time comes, you will understand it better by watching the fighting competitions and duals organized in the academy."

Wu Liang thought for a moment then said:" Sir Rudolf, I still want to do the magic test. Earlier you said that it is difficult to cultivate Qi and use Mana at the same time, but you didn't say it is impossible."

Rudolf shook his head and said:" Indeed it is not impossible, but it is very hard. You have to know that as soon as you start to manipulate Mana, it becomes near impossible to advance your Qi cultivation. And if you want to rise your cultivation to heaven-realm stage, then learn magic you will attract tribulation from heaven and earth. The only person I know of Who cultivate Qi and mana is the founder of our academy, but you can't count him because he is not a normal human."

Rudolf saw that the fire on Wu Liang's eyes didn't dim, so he knew that there is no easy way to convince him. Then Rudolf looked toward the basin of water with wooden stick still floating in it and sighed:" Just as well, I still want to test Yao Feng's ability."

After that, he beckoned them toward the basin and recited the chant for them again.

Wu Liang was the first to do the test he said three times:" vus manâs elementum, der tatas elements", then he put his hand inside the basin. The wooden stick rotated itself ant moved slowly toward the red crystal ball. After two breaths of time, Wu Liang took his hand out of the water, the wooden stick moved toward him with moderate speed.

Rudolf said:" You have a great affinity with fire elementals, but you can see the speed of the wooden stick was slower than when Hanzo did the test. you have the minimum requirement to enter magic classes but I still advise you to study knighthood."

A small smile broke on Wu Liang's face and he said:" I appreciate Sir Rudolf's advice but I don't feel comfortable hiding behind a shield, Besides, I think I will have more options in a fight if I can use magic beside using my sword."

Rudolf didn't respond to that, he turned his head toward Yao Feng instead: "It is your turn now."

Yao Feng advanced toward the basin said the chant three times and put his hand into the water.

The wooden stick moved toward the blue crystal ball. After two breaths of time Yao Feng took his hand out of the water, the wooden stick flashed across the water toward where Yao Feng's hand was. Its speed wasn't any slower than when Rudolf demonstrated the test. Rudolf chuckled and said:" As I thought, you have a great affinity toward water elementals and your aptitude is also great."

After that,he left the children behind him with Hanzo and Liyana and Walked toward Wu Ye and the clan head and said with firm face:" Can we get serious now!?"
