Chapter 212: Iron Man's Training for Spider-Man: Almost Made Him Cry

"Let's look at the options," Steve Rogers said. "Option A is still very plausible. Being a superhero is already a dangerous profession. Forget severe injuries, death is a common occurrence."

"The possibility of Peter being too injured to continue his superhero life does exist, but Tony taking away the suit because of it seems unlikely," Bruce Banner shared his opinion. "I think he would let Peter keep the suit as a memento of his remarkable life."

"Bruce is right," Tony Stark agreed. "If that day were to come, why would I take away the suit? Instead, I'd gather all his suits and display them in a museum, telling his story for people to visit and remember. Just like Captain."

"Is option B just a filler?" Stephen Strange remarked.

"It sure seems like it," Tony Stark said. "Even if Spider-Man had his own comics, there's no way his sales could surpass mine. I'm the most popular, after all!"

"Tony, let me remind you," Thor coughed, "the most popular person is standing right beside you."

"It's been just a few days, and you're already daydreaming?" Tony Stark asked.

"I never daydream. I'm just stating a fact," Thor replied.

"You two are something else, arguing over this. Let's focus on the question," Stephen Strange said. "Regardless of Spider-Man's comic sales, it's highly unlikely that Tony would take Peter's suit away for that reason."

"C can be ruled out as well," Bruce Banner added. "Threatening Tony to take away Spider-Man's suit? Tony doesn't seem like the type to be easily threatened."

"Taking away a suit that's tailored specifically for Peter and giving it to someone else? It's highly unlikely that someone would threaten Tony for that," Clint Barton chimed in. "The whole idea of threatening Tony to take Peter's suit just doesn't hold water, does it?"

"Maybe a supervillain thinks Spider-Man is too powerful and wants to weaken him by taking his suit?" Sam Wilson suggested.

"Peter's abilities primarily come from himself. Taking away the suit wouldn't significantly impact his fighting ability," Steve Rogers stated. "If someone fears Peter's power, it's even less likely they'd threaten Tony. If they had the power to threaten Tony, there would be no need to take away Peter's suit."

"Option D seems the most plausible," Tony Stark said. "Peter is not like us. He's still young, he must have been older during the Civil War than he is now, but even now, he still sounds like a kid, probably just a high school student. A child, inexperienced, immature, making mistakes is normal."

"So, should I choose D?" Peter Parker looked at Tony Stark with big eyes.

"Choose D," Tony Stark said.

"D!" Peter Parker was absolutely convinced. "I choose D!"

Peter Parker's mind instantly gained some insights and experiences about being a superhero, but it was just knowledge, not the memories of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark.

"I think I can totally be a superhero now!" Peter Parker exclaimed excitedly.

"No, kid, being a superhero, the timing isn't right. Like I said, your primary task right now is to grow up," Tony Stark said.

"I was just saying," Peter Parker said somewhat dejectedly. "I really wish I could fight bad guys with you guys."

At this moment, the video began playing, starting with Peter Parker in his suit. He jumped from a building and glided down to a ship, attaching himself to its surface.

"Karen, activate enhanced surveillance mode," Peter Parker crouched by a window, peeking into the ship's interior.

Karen wasn't a person but a system within the suit, similar to J.A.R.V.I.S. in Iron Man's suit.

"He's up ahead, on the main deck. I hate that guy," Karen quickly scanned and identified a black man, and Peter Parker immediately recognized him as Herman Schultz, someone he'd encountered before.

Peter Parker discreetly followed Herman Schultz to the deck and saw him meeting up with someone else.

"Who's the guy on the left?" Peter Parker asked.

"Mac Gargan, has a significant criminal record, including murder," Karen's database immediately provided information, "Shall I activate the lethal function?"

"No, Karen, stop mentioning the lethal function," Peter Parker said. He didn't want to kill anyone.

"White pickup truck." On the deck, Herman Schultz suddenly said to Mac Gargan, who signaled to a companion, who promptly went to find a white pickup truck.

Clearly, these people were conducting some kind of trade on the ship.

"Spider, locate the white pickup truck on the ferry," Peter Parker said. A small spider-shaped drone took off, scanning, and quickly found the white pickup truck.

Inside the truck was a middle-aged man wearing a duckbill cap. Once Mac Gargan's companion arrived, he removed a black cloth covering a pile of weapons.

"This is too perfect, weapons, buyers, and sellers all caught in one net," Peter Parker looked slightly excited at everything unfolding before him.

"Call from Tony Stark." At this moment, Karen notified that Iron Man was calling. After connecting, Tony asked, "Mr. Parker, do you have a moment?"

"I'm at school," Peter Parker lied.

"You're doing great in Washington, D.C.," Tony Stark praised. "My dad never really supported me, I want to break that cycle."

"I'm busy right now," Peter Parker stared intently at the two parties involved in the trade.

"Don't interrupt me when I'm praising you. Anyway, something great is about to..." Tony Stark's words were cut short as a sudden horn sounded from the ship. Tony Stark quickly asked, "What's that sound?"

"I'm at a band rehearsal," Peter Parker quickly threw another lie.

"That's odd, Happy told me you quit the band six weeks ago." Tony Stark wasn't so easily fooled. "What's going on?"

"I have to go," Peter Parker hung up on Tony Stark when he saw the people on the deck starting to trade. 

Just as Herman Schultz was about to hand the key of the pickup truck to Mac Gargan, a strand of spider silk shot from Peter Parker, who had been observing from above, and snatched the key away.

"Everyone, the ferry involved in illegal weapons trade is at 10:30," Peter Parker jumped down, easily subduing the two parties involved in the trade.

However, the news of Spider-Man's appearance had already reached Vulture, Adrian Toomes, who had been waiting on the ferry. He immediately rushed to the scene of the trade.

"Freeze! FBI! Don't move!" Just as Peter Parker was about to apprehend Adrian Toomes, the FBI appeared, surrounding Peter Parker with their guns drawn.

"What's going on? FBI?" Peter Parker was baffled. He was about to capture the criminals, yet these people suddenly appeared, pointing guns at him?

"FBI stands for Federal Bureau of Investigation..." Karen quickly explained to Peter Parker.

"I know what FBI stands for, but what are they doing here?" Peter Parker asked.

Boom!

Suddenly, a loud noise rang out. A pair of menacing steel wings tore through a car's body, and Vulture emerged fully suited from one of the cars.

Bang bang bang!

The FBI agents immediately opened fire on Adrian Toomes, but how could their small handguns compete with his advanced technology? He effortlessly broke through their defenses and flew out of the ship.

Seeing Adrian Toomes about to escape, Peter Parker extended his hand, shooting a strand of spider silk that caught Adrian Toomes' leg, pulling with all his might.

Swoosh!

Adrian Toomes aimed a handheld energy weapon emitting a purple glow at Peter Parker and fired.

However, Peter Parker was exceptionally agile. Adrian Toomes fired several shots, but they all missed Peter Parker by a hair's breadth. On the contrary, more strands of spider silk entwined around Adrian Toomes' wings and legs.

Finally, Peter Parker extended his hand, and the spider silk directly seized the energy weapon from Adrian Toomes' hand, forcefully pulling it back onto the ship.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!

As soon as the weapon hit the ground, it began to jump around like a hyperactive lamb, firing a shot each time it jumped.

Peter Parker quickly approached, continuously shooting spider silk to immobilize the weapon. Finally, he used a thick wad of spider silk to stick the energy weapon to the ground.

"You're tinkering with something you don't understand," Adrian Toomes said without trying to reclaim the weapon. He left these words behind and flew away.

Peter Parker didn't take this seriously, thinking he had the weapon under control. However, in the next moment, the weapon emitted a dazzling energy beam, directly slicing the ship in half.

As water gushed out from the "wound" created by the cut, the two halves of the ship began to slowly tilt to either side.

"Oh no, what should I do?" Seeing the ship split in two, Peter Parker panicked slightly. Fortunately, he didn't lose his wits. He immediately had an idea, "Karen, X-ray scan the ship and mark all the strongest points!"

"Spider web grenade!"

"Divert spider silk!"

Peter Parker swiftly swung between the two halves of the ship, shooting one strand of spider silk after another, sticking the two halves together with his webbing.

"Well done, Spider-Man!" A bespectacled guy on the ship watched as the ship stabilized, offering praise for Peter Parker.

But the moment the words left his mouth, one strand of spider silk suddenly snapped, and like a domino effect, the rest of the silk snapped as well. The two halves of the ship began to tilt to either side again.

A large amount of water poured into the ship, people were thrown around, chaos ensued.

"No!" Peter Parker shouted, leaping into the air, between the two halves of the ship, shooting two strands of webbing to catch the two halves.

He then clung tightly to the two strands of webbing, suspending himself between the two halves of the ship, attempting to use his strength to pull the tilting ship halves back together.

This scene was strikingly similar to another world's Peter Parker using his strength to stop a train!

"Though the Peter from the other world successfully stopped the train, our Peter hasn't matured yet. I wonder if he can stop the ship?" Thor commented as he observed.

"It looks like Peter is struggling to hold the two halves of the ship together. He probably won't be able to prevent the ship from sinking, right?" Stephen Strange remarked.

"At a time like this, Tony must be stepping in," Steve Rogers commented. "When he was talking to Peter earlier, Peter's excuse was not very clever, and he hung up in a hurry. It's clear that something's up."

"With Tony's concern for Peter, he would definitely have sensed that something was off and investigated. Peter's lies wouldn't hold up to scrutiny," Clint Barton added.

The events that followed played out exactly as everyone predicted; Iron Man quickly intervened.

"What's going on?" As Peter Parker was struggling, he suddenly noticed that the ship's halves were coming back together towards the center. He released the spider silk and looked down, puzzled by what was happening.

"Hello there, Spider-Man." Just then, a voice came from behind, and Iron Man's figure appeared. He was pushing the ferry from the side. "Band rehearsal, huh?"

Swoosh swoosh swoosh!

While Tony Stark was pushing the ship, two components flew over, releasing small circular discs that adhered to the sides of the ship. These discs emitted energy, slowly merging the ship's halves together due to the recoil force.

Tony Stark then flew into the ship and used his armor to weld the split ship halves back together.

The mess caused by Peter Parker was now tidied up.

"Mr. Stark, is there anything I can do?" Peter Parker swung on his spider silk, questioning Tony Stark. "What do you want me to do?"

"I think you've done enough, kid," Tony Stark turned and flew away.

Peter Parker then moved to a nearby tall building, removed his mask, and sat there sullenly.

"'Recap of Peter's Misadventure': I told you not to get involved, but you hacked into a suit worth millions to secretly do something I told you not to do," Tony Stark suddenly appeared in his suit, hovering behind Peter Parker.

"Is everyone okay?" Peter Parker asked.

"You didn't help much anyway," Tony Stark remarked.

"I didn't help?" Peter Parker felt a bit wronged. He turned to face Tony Stark and said, "Those weapons were out there circulating, and I've been trying to tell you, but you didn't listen. If you had listened to me, this wouldn't have happened." Peter Parker's excitement grew as he continued, walking up to Tony Stark and saying, "If you cared, you would have come in person!"

Before he finished speaking, the suit in front of him cracked open, and Tony Stark, dressed in a black suit, stepped out.

"I listened, kid. Otherwise, who do you think called the FBI?" Tony Stark said to Peter Parker, word by word. "Do you know I'm the only one who believes in you? Others say I'm crazy, bringing in a 14-year-old kid."

"I'm 15," Peter Parker weakly corrected.

"Don't talk. Keep your mouth shut, okay! Adults are talking, don't interrupt!" Tony Stark's tone unusually grew stern. "What if someone dies tonight? That would be different, wouldn't it? It would be your responsibility! And if you die, I feel responsible. I don't want a guilty conscience."

"I'm sorry," Peter Parker apologized.

"Sorry doesn't cut it either," Tony Stark said.

"I understand," Peter Parker said. "I just wanted to be like you."

"But I want you to be better than me," Tony Stark said, pausing before adding, "Okay, this isn't working. I'm taking the suit back."

"How long will you take it back for?" Peter Parker asked.

"Permanently," Tony Stark stated.

"No, no, no!" Peter Parker panicked upon hearing this. "You don't understand. I'm nothing without this suit."

"If you're nothing without this suit, then you shouldn't have it," Tony Stark said, his tone becoming reflective. "Oh my god, I sound just like my dad."

The space darkened, and the video ended.

"Before watching the video, I thought Tony was a bit excessive, but after watching it, I think he did the right thing," Natasha Romanoff spoke up. "At this point, Peter is indeed too inexperienced; he's not ready to be a superhero."

"He's clearly lacking in experience," Steve Rogers commented. "His abilities far surpass those of the criminals, yet he was thrown off balance by a guy with wings."

"Luck was on our side this time, and there were no casualties, considering how many people were on the ferry," Stephen Strange said. "As Tony said, if there were casualties, it would undoubtedly fall on Peter's shoulders. I believe this would be a psychological shadow that he'd find hard to shake off for the rest of his life. And if something happens to Peter, Tony would probably lose sleep for the rest of his life."

"I, I'm not completely inexperienced," Peter Parker weakly defended himself. "During the airport battle, I fought against Captain America himself."

"Peter, how can that compare? The people in the airport battle were all friends, everyone held back, it was more like friendly sparring than a real battle," Tony Stark crouched down, looking into Peter Parker's eyes. "Believe me, that's not experience; dealing with real criminals is an entirely different story."

"Speaking of which, that guy with the wings, his gun is really powerful. He effortlessly sliced a ship in half," Natasha Romanoff remarked. "And his wings, they look even more menacing than Sam's."

"Where did this guy get wings and a gun?" Clint Barton asked.

"It's not just the wings and the gun. The weapons they had in their truck seemed far from ordinary," Phil Coulson said in a grave tone. "They're likely the ones trafficking these kinds of super-powered weapons."

"Their buyer is someone with a criminal record and blood on their hands, indicating they don't care who the buyer is," Bruce Banner added. "This isn't good; if those weapons make their way into society, it'll be disastrous."

"I'll take care of it," Nick Fury said. "After we're done here, I'll start investigating this guy."

"So, the timeline of this question is before the one we just saw?" Thor said. "It seems our young Peter, despite his lack of experience, managed to pull off some superhero feats."

"Not surprising," Clint Barton remarked. "After all, he did go up against Captain America."

"Speaking of going up against Cap, I think it's just because Peter is young. When he grows up, Cap probably won't be a match for him," Thor said, opening the discussion. "First of all, Peter's strength is incredible. He can pull a moving train; Cap can't do that, can he?"

"No," Steve Rogers shook his head. "Peter's strength surpasses mine."

"Peter's physical resilience is astounding too. He actually used his body to withstand a moving train!" Stephen Strange chimed in, quite impressed. "I'm afraid only Thor and the Hulk could match Peter's physical toughness."

"And Peter has his web-slinging ability. While he can't fly, in an urban environment, it's almost like he can," Natasha Romanoff added. "Compared to Cap, what Peter lacks is experience and knowledge. But he just received a reward in that department."

"You're all right. When Peter grows up, I'm sure I won't be a match for him," Steve Rogers didn't seem upset that someone was surpassing him. He smiled, saying, "It's good that there's someone to carry on."

"Yeah, someone to carry on," Tony Stark agreed. "When Peter grows up, we old folks will be aging. We old heroes might not be able to keep up anymore, and the responsibility of protecting the people will fall on Peter's shoulders."

"Tony, you'll definitely age, but why do you assume Cap will too?" Scott Lang questioned. "Look at the Cap next to you; he's a hundred years old and looks younger than you."

"I look young now because 70 years of my life were frozen," Steve Rogers explained. "I'll age too."

"But for this question, there's no way to analyze it; we'll have to rely on guessing," Steve Rogers said.

"I'll go with the most of them!" Peter Parker could only make a guess, "D!"
