Chapter 64 - New Mission

As Lily gained more abilities and DNA was added to her body, her very being was being changed in the process. It was common amongst her species to devour, adapt, evolve, and overcome; that was the bases of her race.

Evolution was one of the main aspects of it.

While devouring and adapting gave her the means to gain abilities and such, evolution would change what she is fundamentally, not only boosting the abilities she gained but also boosting and even gaining new racial capabilities.

The abilities that made her what she was would be boosted whenever she evolved, and depending on what she evolved into or how she evolved, she may even gain new abilities.

No two members of her species evolved into the same thing, each was unique to itself, and each evolution was based on what that being ate and adapted throughout its life.

Normally it would take much longer for a member of her species to have their first evolution, however, she had the chance much faster.

This was attributed to one simple fact, Earth was special.

For some reason, Earth was much more special than other planets; it had races and people with capabilities that weren't common on other planets, all together in one place.

Mutants, Inhumans, Gods, Supernatural Races, and even Aliens lived on Earth.

It was basically a hotpot of different genetic coding she could gain and adapt.

All the beings she ate allowed her to gain such a wide variety of abilities that would normally take her race much longer to do.

That was why she was so close to finally being able to evolve, but she wasn't there yet.

She most likely lacked more adaptions and other means to evolve. She needed a trigger, something strong enough to make it so her body would push itself into a state of needing to evolve.

Adapt or die, that was what she needed.

Death was something no species wanted; they always found a way to evolve or make a way to keep their species, or the idea of their species, alive.

Animals and even Humans were no different, let alone Aliens.

But that was something for the future; she needed to adapt more before she could evolve, and who knows what she would evolve and gain.

For now, she had to report to the base for the reason she was called.

Arriving at the office, she was greeted by a face she hadn't seen in a while, Phil Coulson.

She hadn't met him for around a month now as he was apparently busy with work, but his sudden appearance once more meant that they had a mission to do.

"Lily, you've grown since I've seen you. I heard all about your missions, good job."

Phil said as he turned around and greeted her with a smile.

"Uncle Phil, it's been a while since I've seen you; I thought your age finally caught up to you."

Lily said in a joking manner.

They were close enough to joke with each other from time to time; at least, Lily joked with Phil, as Phil genuinely saw her as a niece to look after.

"How is that possible? I'm very young and healthy."

Phil replied with a small chuckle as he decided to get to the point of the meeting.

"Now, I'm sure you already have an idea of why you got called; there is a new mission. It's a mission with a team of Agents, myself included, and I would like your assistance for it."

"Of course; what are the details of the mission?"

Lily was obviously willing to take on a mission. Not only was the likelihood of gaining something from it high because it required her in the first place, but even if she didn't gain anything from the mission, her position within S.H.I.E.L.D. would become more stable.

"Sorry, but for now, I can't tell you the details of the mission, but on the day of the mission, you will be informed of the details."

Lily understood it was most likely to prevent any possible leaks that could cause the mission to be messed up.

It wasn't that they didn't specifically trust her; it was more that they didn't trust anyone.

So with a nod, she moved on.

After that, they talked a little about things; Phil asked her how things were going and if she was having fun.

He seemed somewhat worried about her mental well-being, as she was just a kid thrown into a world of chaos and mess. S.H.I.E.L.D. and, by extension, HYDRA, never cared for the age of the people they used.

At least not the ones in charge. They just wanted benefit, profit, and to get done what needed to be done. Whoever gets hurt or thrown aside along the way never mattered to them; even Phil knew that.

Which was why he was worried about how she had been.

After confirming she was doing okay, he felt more relieved, and they chatted about other things for a little while before Lily parted ways from him.

Returning home, her life returned to the monotone routine it was, training and resting, with the exception of not going on any missions with Ava because of her own upcoming mission.

Speaking of Ava, she was also assigned to a solo mission since Lily would be gone for a while. Lily wasn't aware of the details, but Ava told her it would last a while.

Aside from that, nothing happened over the course of the days, and quickly the date of the mission approached.

Chapters might not be posted on some days. As I am somewhat busy.

Also, I saw someone wanting different POVs in a chapter, I'll drop a chapter specifically for it later on. I'm not that good at shifting POVs.
