Chapter 29: Join Me

Jonathan pressed himself into his seat, trying to ignore that, if anything, Alphonse was driving faster than Dr. Page had. It was fairly deep into the night now, without many people out on the roads.

He recalled Dr. Page, lit up by the headlights, cast in the harsh light. He was perfectly still, watching out the window. Why hadn’t he stayed in the library to wait for Jonathan?

And his expression. It was only a glimpse, and they were far apart, but he was staring directly at Jonathan, all the mirth and laughter he normally had ready at a moment’s notice gone.

Alphonse broke the silence to ask Jonathan again, “Are you alright? What happened in there, Jonathan?” His eyes never wavered from the road.

Jonathan bit his lip. What to tell him? He sighed, and decided Alphonse deserved the truth.
