Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Motivation

Seeing that most of the students were having trouble activating their weapons, one of the instructors, the one who had been talking the most so far, decided to do for them a little demonstration. Being a high ranking staff in the military base, he was bound to have some good weapons of his own. Reaching into his clothes, he pulled out what looked like a wand.

Looking at what was in his hand, the students started to wonder what he planned on doing with it.

"What I have here is a weapon of the Emperor Grade. With it, I will show you what to expect when you activate your magical weapons which have skills"

Everyone's eyes lit you upon hearing the Grade of the wand. Suddenly, everyone wanted to have it for themselves. A blue glow began to surround the tip of the wand. Then what came out of it looked akin to lightning but blue in colour, moving with rapid speed, it changed directions before hitting the ceiling and breaking into pieces of glitter.

"What you have just seen is a lesser version of this weapon's skill. Now, you all should try drawing out the power again."

With that little demonstration, everyone was more than gingered to give the process another try. After intense hard work, a few other students had managed to activate their magical weapons, with some even claiming that they suddenly felt stronger from just holding their weapons. Of course, Kayden had learnt how to draw the rings power already, he wasn't going to reveal that to the others.

The students would go on to spend the entire lesson learning to draw their weapons' power. However, the more time that passed, the more students that passed the test. Once the classes were finally over for the day, Kayden quickly caught up with his friends.

Everyone was exhausted from the back-to-back classes and wanted nothing else but a nice long shower and sleep. After chatting with them for a while, he headed back to his dorm room to do just that.

'Although today felt like hell, it's just the first day. This is what I have to do almost everyday. Plus, things are bound to get harder with time. So this is what it means to be in military school.' Memories of each of the classes flashed in his mind.

'My worst class is definitely the second one. Man, that woman is a beast.' He could remember her icy gaze and the lack of expression on her face when she nearly knocked him out twice. 'Even with me and Fan fighting her at the same time, it wasn't even enough.

'But I don't think I should be so surprised. They are instructors because the gap between their power and ours is wide. They have a lot to teach us, and we have a lot to learn from them.'

He also wondered about that woman's ability. The next day, during normal classes, the teacher decided to make an announcement to the students.

"Good morning, class. I hope you slept well after yesterday's classes. Before we commence with today's classes, I would like to make you all aware of something important.'

The students immediately started murmuring to each other.

"Ahem... if only you would all quiet down, I would gladly get down to what the announcement is," the teacher slammed his fist on the desk, shattering it to pieces, while keeping a calm expression with his voice sweet and mellow. Everyone immediately shut up.

"To start with, every student in the military academy would spend two years before graduating and either joining the military, becoming an adventurer, or deciding to do whatever else suited their taste. As long they don't pose threat to humanity in general." This was something everyone already knew about. They were waiting patiently for the teacher to get down to the important part.

"In one month from now, a match would be held between the first year and second years students. The purpose of this is to show the first years areas they need to improve on as well as show them what they could achieve if they keep on pushing forward. Also to motivate the students, a special prize had been prepared for the winners of the match."

Upon hearing this, the students began gossiping again, but a stomp from the teacher was enough to shut them off.

'A match between first years and second years. Sounds interesting,' although Kayden had decided to keep his true growth a secret, he was still interested in what this future match had to offer. But he was also interested in the property as well.

While at the military academy, it was imposed heavily on the students that communication devices were strictly prohibited. So there was no way for someone in the academy to contact those in the outside world and vice-versa. Heck, nothing was even mentioned about a holiday in the future. Once the classes were over, Kayden headed towards the canteen to have breakfast with his friends.

On their way there, they could see two students bullying another student. Just like in any other school, there were always bullies. Fortunately, no such thing had happen to Kayden or his friends. Plus, they never once indulged in it ever joining the academy. They thought what was going on was wrong, but chose not to interfere in matters that did not concern them.

At the end of the day, there was only so much they could do to stop bullies. They couldn't be everyone at once, and someone would always end up getting hurt at the end of it all. They didn't want to draw unwanted attention to themselves. At the canteen, there were students, mostly females, who tried to be extra friendly towards Kayden. This was due to his rank which was displayed by his wrist watch.

It was at this point that he regretted putting all his effort in those initial assessments. The attention and affection being thrown at him was half-baked and fake. He knew that these people were only around him because he was strong. Nothing else. Kayden didn't see it as a completely bad thing.

If these people wanted to use him, it would only be right if he returned the favor in the future. For now, he would play along with their games.

Kayden was currently the forth strongest person in the first year. This was what earned him such respect and admiration amongst the students. They even decided to call the too five students titans. The strongest student was called Titan one, then the other four followed after her. Even his friends noticed how much attention he was getting but chose not to pay too much attention to it.

Before heading to the martial arts class, Kayden and his friends had stood at the hallway. This was because, there was a roster pasted there showing the list of activities that would be happening for the year. "Hmm... a hunting expedition six months from now. The match which is just a month away. Then some serious shit," Kayden said.

"These people must be crazy if they think we'll survive that," Zain commented.

"This is the military. Remember everyone here is crazy," Madison said, before they continued walking back to class. The rest of the day went by as normal. Kayden was heavily exhausted from the classes and was ready to call it a day. It was when he laid on his bed that he felt someone tap his leg. Irritated, he turned to see who it was.

"Sorry to bother you, but we haven't really had a chance to talk after we came here. I was hoping if you, me and Shawn can have a chance to get to know each other properly," the boy offered. His name was Paul. Kayden looked too tired to respond.

"Okay, just lemme stretch for a second..." The three of them talked about themselves, including who they were outside the academy and their abilities. However, Kayden didn't say much about his own family. He learnt that Shawn and Paul both had tracker class abilities

"I saw you use your ability against the instructor both yesterday and today. That form of yours looks quite fierce. I'm wondering if we could ever get the chance to fight other." Kayden wasn't interested in another fight, but he wanted to test the capabilities of this roommate of his.

"What if I say we can?" he suddenly said. Paul raised an eyebrow in curiousity. "We can have a match two weeks from now to see how much stronger we have grown. Are you interested in that?" Kayden asked.

Paul's expression changed to one of a prey eying its next meal. "Let's shake in it," he said, extending his arm.

"It's a deal," Kayden said, reciprocating the handshake.

'It seems like these two will be at each other's throats for as long as they're here," Shawn thought, shaking his head.
