Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Another Skill

The instructor's expression didn't change despite the look on Dan's face. She was more than ready for whatever was coming her way. Kayden had suffered severe injuries from the blow, but he wasn't out of the fight yet. His injuries would be healed by his Mana. He didn't have much of it left, but he still chose to charge forward.

The instructor raised her arm, blocking a hit from Dan. Just like before, it didn't seem like it took much for her to block the strike. Dan may be able to copy people's abilities, that doesn't mean than he can copy their quality as well.

His ability was just as strong as Marcus's, but it was no where near the instructor's power. Kayden sprinted forward, joining Dan in the fight against the instructor. Despite the fact that Dan was fighting, Kayden had no idea what the instructor's ability was.

It was a Mystery Class, but that was all he knew about it. Still, it allowed Dan to somewhat hold his own against her. Although he knew that she was holding back. The other students stopped practicing with their own abilities and we're heavily invested on the two-on-one fight.

The other six instructors tried gaining back the students' attention, but failed miserably. This was first time any of them had seen three different Mystery Class abilities clash in a fight and they didn't want to miss a second of it even though it was just training.

At this point it seemed like Dan was faring better than Kayden. He was nearly out of Mana, plus, he was far too stressed to practice the breathing technique.

[Warning: Host is running low on Mana!]

Kayden decided to step away from the fight. Dan and the instructor were locked in combat. Well, if you would call one person attacking and the other just dodging the attacks with ease, attacking. There was no way for Dan to win this fight. It seemed like he wasn't aware of that.

While using her ability, it seemed like all this time, his full attention was focused on his opponent. He wasn't even thinking like usual and just kept on attacking without showing signs of stopping or slowing down. It was like he was stuck on an endless loop.

It wasn't until the instructor did something her hands that Dan finally dropped to the floor. Without even touching him, he had been knocked unconscious. The others students were awestruck after witnessing the last moments of the match. A sense of admiration began to build in them for the instructor.

Kayden had ran out of Mana, and his body began to revert back to being human. Walking towards Dan, she placed her hand on his chest. Then, a yellow energy could be seen escaping her body into his. The students were interested in what this yellow glow was.

After passing this glow onto Dan, she then walked towards Kayden and repeated the process. He could feel a warm energy enter his system. But not only that, his Mana was replenishing quickly. Not long after, and he could stand on his feet.

"This lesson isn't over. We still have over thirty minutes left. For the remainder of this time, I want you both to keep on attacking me."

Kayden and Dan looked at each other before nodding at the instructor's request. And for the remainder of the time, they would have their butts kicks before having their Mana replenished by the instructor.

Once the abilities class was over, everyone was meant to head towards the final class for the day. They were all severely drained. They had no choice in the matter.

The next class was meant to teach students how to use magical weapons. Unlike normal weapons, these weapons had magical properties. In certain cases, they possessed abilities themselves, giving one the power of two abilities in combat. For this class, there were three instructors teaching the class.

"I hope that other two lessons didn't leave you completely drained. You still have to go through us," one of the instructors said, gesturing to his colleges.

"In case you don't know, magical weapons are weapons made from the crystals of beasts. Beasts are otherworldly creatures born of evil. In the future, you students will be going on expeditions to hunt monsters and grow stronger, but for now, you'll have to focus on learning how to use magical weapons for now."

The instructor pointed behind him. On the walls, there were numerous weapons on display.

"Go and pick any weapons you want," the instructors said. The students couldn't wait to get their hands on the weapons, so much so that their exhaustion seemed to have faded away. Kayden walked towards the weapons rack and began thinking of a weapon to chose.

While everyone was choosing and fighting over the weapons they wanted, the instructors decided to educate them a little bit on magical weapons.

"You see, there are eight grades of magical weapons. The Basic Grade, The Intermediate Grade, The Advanced Grade, The King Grade, The Emperor Grade, The Tyrant Grade, The Typhoon Grade, and lastly, The Demon Grade. The higher the grade, the higher the gap in power between magical weapons.

"The weapons available today for this class are of the Basic Grade and Intermediate Grade. You will find nothing above that here."

Although there wasn't a label to tell what Grade a magical weapon was, Kayden had his own way of finding out. It was all thanks to a little something that calls itself a system. Concentrating hard, it wasn't long until something strange began to happen. Werewolf transformation wasn't the only thing Kayden could do.

In front of his very eyes, a set of information began to appear for the weapon he was looking at.

[Basic Grade Sword]

[A decent weapon with good physical attributes.]

[Can only be used against regular humans and Basic Grade beasts.]

[Skills: None]

[Durability: 100%]

Kayden decided to keep on searching for a weapon. Fortunately, the weapons available were more than three times the number of students in the class so there were more than enough to go around. It wasn't long till he set his sights on a particular weapon. Well, it was less of a weapon and more of an artifact.

[Intermediate Grade Ring]

[A good artifact with okay magical properties.]

[Can be used against both Basic Grade and Intermediate Grade beasts]

[Skills: Teleportation]

[Durability: 100%]

'This is what I'm gonna use,' Kayden thought, taking the ring and placing it on his finger. Once everyone had chosen a weapon, they all gathered around the instructors awaiting further instructions and teachings.

"One reason why there are so many magical weapons in the world is due to their high demand. You see, magical weapons can be utilized by anyone. Whether that person had an ability or not. However, it is also because aliens such as the Shales cannot use them."

Kayden was listening intently on what they were saying, and so were his friends and anyone else who was interested in the lesson. But, there were always those who never took classes seriously.

"For today's lesson, you all will learn how to use a magical weapon. Although not all of them have abilities, you can still derive from the strength, speed, agility, stamina, and even durability they have to offer.

"Not only that, but you can also use your ability with the weapon, producing a stronger variation of it based on the Grade of the weapon in relation to your own strength. So for the next week, we will be focusing on how to properly use a magical weapon."

Kayden looked at the black ring on his finger. 'Let's see what you can do,' he thought to himself. He was more than interested in testing out the depths of his power, being well aware that he shouldn't be showing too much of his capabilities, else the other students might get jealous and try coming after him. That was the reality of this world.

When one is powerful but exposed, they become easy pickings for the weak and envious. Kayden needed to limit how much talent he revealed to others, even the instructors.

"To use a magical weapon, you just do the same thing you do whenever you activate your ability. For someone who is still learning how their ability works, they have to concentrate hard, not allowing anything to distract them as the slightest distractions could cause a mistake, and they would have to start the process of summoning their ability all over again.

"So to start this lesson, we would like you all to start concentrating hard on the weapons in your hands. Feel the energy in them, and draw them out."

The students nodded their heads and tried their best to do as told. While there were those who seemed to grasp the concept quickly, having no trouble activating their magical weapons, there were those who didn't even know what they were doing. Kayden could feel an energy from the ring upon his first try.

He was about to activate the weapon, but decided against it since there were too many people watching this time around.
